My two favorite things:
1. Hunting feral shifters
2. Executing feral shifters.
When I was young, a rabid feral bear slaughtered my entire pack and I’ve spent my life trying to right that wrong.
I’m a lone wolf now, hellbent on revenge.
I’ve eliminated dozens of bears over the years, but this last one is proving to be tricky.
For the first time ever, I’m hesitating.
It’s not because of him. I have no sympathy for a feral bear.
It’s because of his sister.
She’s my mate.
And if I put down her brother, she’ll never forgive me.
But if I let a feral bear go loose, I’ll never forgive myself.
My mate or my destiny.
An impossible choice.
But one that I have to make.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Adalynn

“Are you sure you’re going to be okay?” I ask as my brother Colin bends over and starts taking deep breaths with his head between his legs.

This is not good.

This is the worst place for him to have one of his ‘episodes.’ We’re in a crowded amusement park surrounded by families and kids.

I glance at my seven-year-old nephew, Nathan. The look on his face is pure joy as he rams some other kid in his blue bumper car. It’s going to break his heart if we have to leave.

“I’m okay,” Colin says as he stands up with his hands squeezed into fists.

He doesn’t seem okay. His voice is part growl and I swear he looks about fifteen percent larger and bulkier than he did a few minutes ago.

“Put your sunglasses on,” I quickly say when I see the golden tint in his eyes.

He pulls them off his shirt and slides them on.

“Colin,” I say in a soft calm voice despite the shakiness I’m feeling. “We can’t stay here. Not if you’re going to…”

“I’m fine,” he barks. The anger quickly fades and his big chin quivers. “I’m not leaving. I’ve been promising Nathan this for months and we’re not leaving after his first ride.”

His tone says it’s final. I’m not so sure.

My stomach is a ball of nerves as I look around at all of the happy oblivious people. They have no idea that a furious grizzly bear might burst out of my older brother and go on a rampage of destruction through the amusement park at any second.

The buzzer goes off and the bumper cars slide to a stop. Nathan’s huge smile gives me a pang in my heart as I watch him run over and leap into Colin’s big arms.

I know that the two of them have been waiting a long time for this summer together. Nathan and his mother, who was a long-ago one-night fling for my brother, live several states away in Oklahoma. Colin tries to see his son as often as he can, but Nathan’s mother has full custody and keeps the boy on a tight leash. Her parents are very strict and extremely prejudiced against shifters.

Nathan has been turning into his little grizzly cub more and more lately, so his mother thought it would be a good idea for him to come to Montana and be around his shifter father for a few weeks.

My brother was finally able to get Nathan for the summer, and now this… What a time for his grizzly bear to start acting up.

“What should we do neexxxtt?” Colin asks, the last word coming out in a growl. “Sorry. My throat. It’s a little hoarse.”

Nathan doesn’t notice, but I do. I warned my brother against coming here. There are too many people and way too much noise.

“Can we go on the swinging pirate ship?” Nathan asks, bouncing up and down. “We can all sit in the last row!”

“I don’t think your dad is feeling up to going on—“

“Let’s do it!” Colin says, interrupting me. He grabs Nathan’s hand and they hurry over to the giant ride.

I’m worried as I keep my eye on Colin’s muscular back. It’s looking larger than it was this morning. I’m not sure if it’s my imagination or not, but the fabric of his T-shirt seems to be pulled tight across it.

Everywhere we go there’s loud thumping music, screams, and laughter. The metallic clunking of the rollercoasters over our heads mixes with the hollering of the employees trying to get customers to come and play their games.

It’s not just the sounds that are a problem. There are so many flashing lights, fast-moving rides, and all the smells—candy, French fries, hot garbage, body odor, and sunscreen. Colin’s inner grizzly must be going wild right now.

He’s been having a lot of trouble with him. The bear seems to be losing his mind lately.

He told me that his bear burst out of him in a shopping mall last week when he heard one of the alarms going off. It was chaos as everyone fled in panic. Windows shattered, merchandise got trampled, and one older man even had a heart attack, but he was okay. The police were looking for that bear all day long.

“It was terrifying,” Colin told me when he showed up at my house with only a tarp wrapped around his waist that night. “I was stuck inside him all day, watching helplessly as he ran around in a rage. I could feel his fury and couldn’t do anything to stop it. He wanted to break everything. He wanted to kill. I didn’t recognize him anymore.”

After I got him to sleep, I dove into the shifter forums online and discovered that his bear was turning feral. It’s rare, but it does happen.

Sometimes, when a bear shifter is forced to live without their mate for a long time, the bear begins to lose its grasp on reality. The longing becomes so intense that it can slide into a cascading spiral of anger, resentment, and fury. Most turn violent. Some even kill.
I’ve spent my life hunting down feral shifters and now I’m one of them.
And it couldn’t have come at a worse time.
The director of the AFA—the Anti-Feral Agency—is retiring and I’m the top candidate to replace him.
It’s all I’ve ever wanted, but my damn grizzly bear keeps getting in the way.
Snarling, growling, charging for the surface.
He wants our mate badly, but I’m too busy trying to secure the coveted position to do anything about it.
I didn’t realize he was so close to turning.
I didn’t realize he was so close to the edge.
But now, he’s on the brink of turning feral and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.
I’m losing all control over him.
Instead of calling me boss, the entire agency will be hunting me down.
I need a mate quickly.
But where the hell is she?

Mindy is about to have her hands full when a rabid bear shifter decides that she belongs to him. Can she tame the wild grizzly bear or will she be the feral beast’s next victim?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Cain

“There he is!” my boss, Peter, says with a big smile as I walk into the hall. He shoves his hand into mine and shakes it vigorously. “You’re the talk of the party.”

I grin as I look around at all of the women in cocktail dresses and men in suits. Eyes flit over to me and then the whispers start.

“I hear he’s a shoo-in for the position…”

“…the youngest director in the agency’s history…”

“Thirty years with the agency and I didn’t even get to interview…”

With my shifter hearing, I can hear it all.

“Thanks, Peter,” I say as I nod to my boss. He’s my boss for now, but if the rumors are true, he won’t be my boss for long.

The director of the AFA—Anti-Feral Agency—is retiring at the end of the month and it’s looking like I’m going to be offered the position. At thirty-two, I’m on the young side, but I’m still the top candidate.

I killed all three of the interviews and the current (and soon-to-be retired) director, Martin Shields, gave me a wink and a little nod at the end of the last one.

I’m going to be the next director and everyone in here knows it. I just need the confirmation.

There’s a rumor going around that Mr. Shields is going to announce it at the end of his retirement speech tonight. I wore my lucky suit and planned out an acceptance speech just in case.

I walk around, working the room. Men eagerly step forward to shake my hand and wish me luck. Women give me smiles that reach their eyes as they lean in to kiss my cheeks, their hands lingering a little too long on my biceps.

It’s a good showing. Several hundred people are crowding the hall for Mr. Shields’ retirement party. Everyone who’s anyone in the agency is here tonight.

There’s a band playing oldies on the stage and a crowded bar lining the wall. I grin when I spot Mr. Shields with his beautiful mate, Linda, on his arm. She’s wearing a sparkling red dress with her blonde hair up.

A deep heavy longing hits my soul when I see her smiling up at him.

My inner grizzly growls low.

Oh, please no. Not now.

I look around the room nervously, wondering if anyone heard that. The room is full of shifters—mostly bears, but a few lions and tigers wandering around too—so you always have to assume that people are listening. That they can hear everything.

My bear starts pacing angrily inside. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. He snarls.

Please…

The sight of the two happy mates has awoken the beast. I can feel the hostility emanating from him. The fury. The hate.

He paces faster, harder. I can feel the enraged, livid energy surging through my veins. It makes my heart pound. It makes my muscles tight.

I take a few deep breaths as I force out a smile that probably looks deranged.

You’re going to ruin everything for me. Stop.

He doesn’t stop. He rushes forward, snarling and gnashing his teeth as he claws his way up.

I drop to the ground and pretend to tie my shoe as I flex my body, grit my teeth, and force him back down.

He’s getting stronger. He almost slipped through.

I gasp in relief when he slinks back down and lets out a low grumble.

I wipe the sweat off my forehead and stand back up with a smile plastered on my face.

“Bradford!” one of my colleagues says as he walks over and shakes my hand. “When you get the job, can I have your old office?”

I’m still shaky all over as my grizzly continues to pace.

“I was thinking of moving you down to the basement instead since you beat me at golf last month.”

We both laugh, but this is anything but funny.

My bear is getting worse.

He’s slipping out of my control. I ignored it at first, thinking it was because I was working so much and neglecting him, but this is different. He doesn’t feel like my bear anymore. It feels like I have a rabid beast trapped inside of me.

Sometimes I even think… No.

That’s not what this is. It can’t be.

I move on, continuing to work the room, but my easy confidence is gone. My bear has shaken me to my core once again.

He’s pissed at so many things. That our mate is not here. That I’m always working and not out constantly looking for her.

He seems to hate everything and everyone lately. A kid playing with a remote control car on my street set him off this morning. I had to sit in my car and wrestle him down for twenty minutes after. He still nearly fought his way through.

“Bradford!” Mr. Shields says when he sees me. He waves me over and the crowd around him parts as I approach.

We’re both grizzly bear shifters, which I was quick to point out multiple times during the interview process. It shouldn’t make a difference, but I know that it kind of does.
I found her.
My mate.
My goddess in the flesh.
My Layla.
She’s perfect in every way.
But although she’s perfect, our situation is anything but.
She’s here now, but it took too long.
My bear lost it.
He turned.
He’s gone feral.
And the shifter mercenaries who take out wild, out of control bears like mine have marked us to die.
I know my savage bear is too dangerous to be around.
I know he has to be put down for the greater good.
I know this has to be done.
But I don’t care.
She’s here now and I finally have something to live for.
They can try to take me out, but when it comes to my mate, they’re going to discover that this feral shifter will be unstoppable.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER ONE

Noah

The sound of happiness enrages my bear.

It’s the clanking metal that gets his attention, but it’s the happy voices that makes my Kodiak charge toward the sound.

He lets out a nasty snarl as he sprints through the forest, his massive paws slamming into the ground. Tree branches explode off their trunks as his big shoulders collide into them. I can feel the hate and anger coursing through our veins. It feels like a drug. He’s high on hate. He’s tripping on anger.

He despises everything, but happiness and laughing are at the top of his hate list. These nice people don’t know what’s coming for them.

Relax, I try to tell him as he snaps a large branch under his paw. These people haven’t done anything to us.

He growls as he picks up the pace, his violent temper blazing like a wildfire.

That’s enough! I scream as I try to pull him in.

He shakes me off easily. I can’t force him to do anything anymore. He’s too strong. He’s too out of control.

It wasn’t always like this. Years ago, we communicated. We actually got along.

But then our mate never came and things went south. He started ignoring me. Shaking off my commands. Then, the hate started. And it has only grown from there.

Dude, chill! I grab his essence and yank him down with all of my might while I force myself up. He shakes me off easily. It doesn’t even slow down his stride.

I’m hopeless in here. It’s been weeks since he’s let me out. All I can do is watch as he inflicts his horror on one town after another. Last week, it was Abottsville, Montana. We got chased out by a posse of men with rifles and shotguns.

I don’t even know where we are now. He escaped into the mountains and we’ve been wandering around the wilderness ever since.

The group up ahead laughs and my vicious bear sprints forward with his heart pounding.

I spot them in the distance and my stomach sinks.

They’re a group of mountain climbers out in nature for a fun day. Two of them are already high up the rocky cliff and the other four are at the base, strapping on their gear while they laugh and joke around.

The sound of laughter and the sight of smiles stokes the fury within my bear. I can feel the intense anger coursing through his body.

He’s full-on feral. It’s the only explanation.

Our mate hasn’t come into our lives and it’s broken him. He’s turned rotten to the core. He’s taken his anger and frustration out on the universe and I can’t do a thing to stop him.

The shifter community polices this kind of thing. They have para-military forces to deal with bears like mine. A couple of bullets in the head is usually what it takes to end a violent feral spree.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was one of these units hunting down my savage Kodiak right now. After the mess he caused in Abottsville, we’re certainly on the radar.

The sound of straps being pulled through buckles rings through our ears as the mountain climbers suit up. The smell of tuna sandwiches from their cooler hits our nose.

A pounding rage fills our ears as he runs closer. He’s all tight and on edge, ready for violence, ready to terrorize. He’s looking for a fight. He’s looking for blood. For vengeance.

These people didn’t do anything! I scream as I desperately try to get a hold of him to pull in.

He shakes me off with a growl.

His paws slow to a bloodthirsty prowl. He lowers his head as he watches the mountain climbers with a low snarl. I can feel the territorialness swirling through our bodies. He thinks they’re trespassing on his territory. He thinks the whole damn mountain range is his. He thinks the whole world is his.

You need to stop! I scream at him. Leave them alone!

He continues forward.

One of the guys turns and spots us coming out of the woods. His eyes widen before he opens his mouth and screams. “Bear!!!”

They all gasp when they see my livid Kodiak snarling with his black lip curled over his long sharp teeth.
They hunt shifters like me.
With good reason.
I’m a threat to everyone. Even myself.
My bear has gone feral.
It’s lost control.
Sometimes fate can be cruel.
Sometimes it makes us wait too long for our mate.
Some bears can’t handle it, and my wild grizzly is one of them.
He’s gone too long without her and he’s snapped.
This untamed savage creature lashes out at everything it can get its nasty paws on.
He’s become a danger to society.
So, they’ve come for me.
A group of shifters have come to put me down.
To stop the threat. To put me out of my misery. To put a bullet it in my head.
My mate is the only one who can save me.
She’s the only one who can tame this savage beast.
But with the killers closing in on me, will she be too late?
And is my monstrous grizzly too far gone to be saved?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER ONE

August

“Timberville, Montana!” the conductor shouts as the freight train slows to a stop.

I sigh as I look at the old weathered sign with the town name on it barely visible behind the peeling paint and old faded graffiti.

Is this town going to be safe?

I sigh as I realize that no town is safe for me. Not when the biggest danger is lurking inside of my body. With a heavy breath, I get up off the large bags of rice I slept on all night and leap off the train.

My grizzly bear snarls inside of me as I head for the forest.

“Hey!” the conductor yells. “Stay the fuck off my train! Bloody vagrant.”

I don’t turn around. For his protection, I lower my head and hurry to the colorful tree line. It’s a gorgeous fall day, but this is no time to admire the autumn leaves.

My bear is growling inside. He’s pacing angrily. I know what’s coming and I don’t want any part of it. I’m sure the nice people of Timberville, Montana don’t either.

“Stay calm,” I whisper, but that only infuriates my bear even more. He snaps and lets out a low rumbling growl.

It’s been two days since he last burst out of me. The rocking of the train must have helped soothe him, but now that I’m off it, he seems ready to fuck up my life some more.

“Hey!” the conductor shouts as I hurry forward.

Shit, why can’t he just leave us alone? If he knew what my bear was capable of, he’d be hightailing it back on the train and hurrying the fuck out of here.

“Sorry!” I say as I raise my hand. I don’t turn around. If my savage grizzly gets a look at him, I won’t be able to hold him back.

“Motherfucker, I’m talking to you,” he says as he cocks a gun.

Oh, come on…

I sprint to the forest.

He fires into the air and my whole body goes cold.

“Why’d you have to go and do that?” I whisper.

The booming sound makes my bear livid and he unleashes his wrath in a ferocious growl. He’s gnashing his teeth and violently clawing his way up, furious at everyone and everything.

I look at the conductor over my shoulder and he steps back with a look of horror on his face.

“Run,” I warn him in a deep monstrous voice.

My maniac of a bear is about to rip out, so my eyes are probably that eerie golden color they get before I phase. I can feel my teeth already expanding, pushing my lips out and making me look like a monster. Long brown hair sprouts out of my face as my body swells so big my muscles tear through the clothes I stole from some hunter a few towns back.

“What… are you?” he gasps as he raises his gun for another shot.

I’m a feral shifter, that’s what I am.

My mate hasn’t arrived and it’s driven my bear insane. I’ve lost control of him. I’ve passed the point of no return.

I’m a danger to everybody, even myself. Wherever I go, it’s like bringing a ticking timebomb with me. It’s only a matter of when it explodes in a furious rage of snarling teeth and slashing claws.

I should put a bullet in my head. That would be the responsible thing to do. The sane thing.

There’s no going back for a feral shifter, but…

It’s just not in me to give up. Even with all of this shit going on, I still haven’t given up on finding my mate. I just need to see her once… To lay my eyes on her beautiful face just one time and then I’ll gladly put a gun to my temple and pull the trigger.

I can’t be with her. Even I know that. It’s too late for us. My bear is corrupted. He’s wild, untamed, and full-on feral. Nothing can change that.

But if I can see her one time before I die… Then, I’ll die happy.
