A MERRY METROPOLIS CHRISTMAS WEDDING
Pack your jockstraps and snow coats, Metropolis boys.
This December, your presence is requested for the most fabulous wedding of...
Mr. Derek Crawford & Mr. Jackson Gibbs
The event will be held at the Silver Fox Ski Lodge in Whistle Ridge, British Columbia. Daily activities will include skiing, ice skating, hot chocolate by an open fire--and of course, a respectable amount of one-on-one time with your own partners to allow you guys to find other ways to generate some heat.
Expect cocktails, fun, and laughs with friends...as well as a few delightful surprises as we walk down the aisle, on the way to our very own happily ever after.
xoxo
Bottom Boy & His Daddy
PS: No RSVPs necessary. We know our crew will be there. Love you guys!
Hitching It is a 22K-word story that follows the characters you know and love from the Metropolis series. Before reading Hitching It, it's best to read the other books in the series, starting with Faking It.
I shift to check out my profile. “I’m going to be a bride!”

Gary brushes some lint off my shoulder. “Yes, the most beautiful bride there ever was,” he says, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

“Superass, you were a pretty bride, but come on. These blond locks, the blue eyes bestowed upon me by the gods themselves…they’re a curse, really.”

He laughs. “Guess what the gods giveth in beauty, they taketh in modesty.”

“The only modest thing right now are these goddamn pants.” I groan as I adjust the fabric around my trunk. “What the hell happened? Did she mess with the ass?” I cup my hands around my ass cheeks feverishly.

Gary winces. “Oh shit.” The worry in his tone assures me this isn’t just in my head. “I vaguely recall her being distracted when she was working on the pant length, and you said something about your ass—”

“That it was messed up? I wouldn’t have said that. It was perfect!”

“Eh, more about how, with the way it fit, you were liable to get five dicks in your ass before making it all the way down the aisle…?”

“And she interpreted that as a bad thing?”

Gary’s reflection glares at me. “Derek, it might surprise you to know that not everyone gets your sense of humor.”

I grumble. “And you noticed she might not have understood, and just stood by and—”

“Whoa, whoa! I wasn’t one hundred percent sure. She looked confused and then—”

“And then my matron of honor betrayed me. I guess someone wanted to be an even more beautiful bride than me,” I tease.

“Wanted to be? Someone already was,” a voice comes from the door, and I turn to see Trav heading into my master suite in the chalet we’re sharing with a bunch of the guys.

I roll my eyes. “Look, I get that you have to stand up for your husband, but—”

“Stand up for my husband? I was talking about me.” He slaps Gary’s ass and offers his man a quick kiss…the sort of cootie-inducing kiss that would have seemed disgusting to me if I wasn’t feeling so goddamn sentimental the closer my big day got.

“Yes, you were a beautiful bride,” Gary says, and I make a loud gagging sound.

“Surprised that reflex even still works for you,” Trav jokes with a wink before lounging on the nearby love seat, putting one hand behind his head, and crossing his legs. He pulls his phone out of his pocket.

“Did you want a front-row seat to my agony?” I ask.

“Agony? Oh, come on. This weekend is all about you and Jackson. I’m not reveling in anything. I was just coming to let you know Hayden and Cody arrived, so now everyone is officially here.”

“Well, at least one thing isn’t a total clusterfuck,” I say.

Gary rests his hands on my shoulders. “Relax. Everyone actually made it. That’s what’s important.”

He’s right, especially considering Jackson and I didn’t exactly choose the most convenient location for our wedding—the Silver Fox Ski Lodge in Whistle Ridge, British Columbia. Jackson and I vacationed here last winter, and after the proposal, there wasn’t any question about where we wanted the ceremony. It’s a gorgeous resort with awesome slopes and a cute village with fun pubs and a frozen pond for ice-skating. We had such an amazing time our first time here that it was something we wanted to share with our friends and family. And what easier way to make it work with everyone’s schedule than over the Christmas holiday?

I take a breath, reminding myself that Gare-bear’s right: having everyone here is way more important than what my ass looks like in my tux pants.

The fuck? No it’s not!

I groan again. “Ugh. None of this would have been an issue if I would have gone with that wedding gown we saw at Phipps Plaza.”

“No one was discouraging you,” Gary remarks with a smile.

“White just seems so inauthentic at this point, Superass. I wonder what color would work for a guy like me.”

“In middle school, I had this sock that was probably the right shade of yellow,” Trav says from the love seat.

Gary cringes. “Travis! No one needs to know about your cumrag.”

“From what you’ve told me, you had a certain pillowcase that was just as used and abused.”

“Ew—a pillowcase?” I ask.

Gary shakes his head. “I’m feeling really judged right now.”

“Aw, come on, babe.” Travis hops up from the sofa and approaches. “You know I love all the quirky things about my hubby.” Hooking an arm around Gary, he pulls him close and kisses Gary’s cheek, then licks back to his ear before nibbling and tugging on the lobe. Despite Gary’s laugh, the shade of red that covers his face reveals just how much Trav can still work him up.
There’s never a dull moment at Metropolis…the condominium known for having the hottest openly gay tenants in town. The boys of Metropolis are always on the prowl for a good time. They like their drinks heavy and their tricks easy.
Gary should be living it up in his South Tower unit of Metropolis, but he’s having a hard time adjusting to his newly single status. It’s not easy to walk away from five years with his ex, who he discovered was cheating on him with some North Tower twink. After a night out partying, licking his wounds, he goes to bed alone. When he wakes the next morning, there’s a naked guy in his bed. Not just any guy. A stud from North Tower. But hot as he is, what the hell is he doing in his room?
Travis Waller doesn’t get why Gary’s freaking out. So he went home with Gary’s roommate and accidentally crawled into the wrong bed. It’s not the first time he’s woken up in a strange place. Maybe Gary would loosen up a little if he gave it a try as well. Travis has more important things to deal with though…like his meeting with an investor who could give him the money to start his massage parlor.
They’re both sure that’s the last time they’ll have to deal with each other until a mix-up leads Gary’s ex and Travis’s investor to think they’re an item, which Gary and Travis use to their benefit by posing as a couple around town. Soon, they discover the chemistry between them is off the charts. Travis brings out a sexual confidence Gary didn’t know he had—one Travis enjoys exploring with him. But as the two keep up their boyfriend hoax, Gary realizes Travis isn’t as shallow as he thought. Gary’s starting to develop feelings for him. But Travis doesn’t do relationships, and Gary should know better, considering they’re just faking it...
He slaps my arm as we make our way down the sidewalk, toward the condo building we both live in. After spending a couple of hours at Flirt, the local gay bar, we’re hammered. We downed vodka sodas and Fireball shots before tearing it up on the dance floor. Well, in my case, I bobbed my head slightly on the dance floor while Derek forced every hottie he could find on me. His version of therapy.

“There was sooo much hot man-beef out tonight,” he says.

I try to ignore his rambling, but he grabs my arm and pulls sharply.

I stop walking and turn to him. He glares at me. The long blond bangs of his undercut falls over his eye. He slaps at it, which makes the hair rise and fall right back where it was before. Despite his failure, he continues staring at me, but I’m hardly intimidated by a guy who’s five foot four and wearing a T-shirt that says “dumpster” across the front. If anything, his expression is pretty adorable as he purses his lips and bats his long lashes repeatedly—surely thinking somehow this fierce look will help him get his point across.

“I just wanted to hang,” I say.

“You still don’t want to move on.” He shifts his weight to one leg. He loses his balance and starts to fall. I grab him and help him regain his bearings before putting his arm over my shoulder.

“Okay, buddy,” I say. “Let’s just keep walking. Get you some water.”

“I want Chinese. Can we order Lucky Buddha? Please…please…pretty please?”

This sounds more like the Derek I’m used to.

“That’s fine.”

Although as soon as I get him back to my place, I doubt he’ll be conscious long enough for us to order out.

“Don’t patronize me!” he shouts. “You’re a sexy guy. You need to own that. You got that nice muscular build. Not super ripped, but like muscly and sexy. It’s a very vers look. Is he gonna want to bottom? Top? Who knows? Let’s find out. And this short crewcut is like Sean-Cody-cute. Totally all-American. It’s perfect for this sandy-blond hair you got. Will be great for hiding the grays when you need to worry about that. I think you have seven years before you have to worry.”

Derek’s a hair stylist, so I’m used to him assaulting me with critiques like these.

His expression turns serious again. “Don’t get me wrong now. You’re not like hot stuff. You don’t got the jawline people like. And that freckle under your right eye is like all I can look at right now. Just saying, you’re not like a cover model or nothing. But like…porn hot.”

He must sense my confusion. “Like I wouldn’t mind watching you sit on a guy’s face for five to ten minutes of a thirty-minute scene. I’m just saying you have to own it and get back out there. Guys will date some ugly dudes, and you’re not ugly, which means you’re pretty much a hot commodity. It’s science.”

Before I have a chance to make sense of anything he just said, I notice a couple of guys heading down the street, making their way from Cypress Street to Flirt. I pull Derek aside to let them pass.

One of the guys, in a backward baseball cap, wears a tight, green T-shirt that sculpts around his fit body.

I appreciate the view and smile politely to him and his friends as they pass. They have that sort of dazed look in their eyes—one that suggests they pre-gamed before coming out.

“Hey, sexy thing,” Derek sings, turning his head and watching the guys pass.

The guy in the cap turns back to us, gazing at Derek with interest—the kind of interest that makes me think, if I’m not careful, I might lose my buddy in a few minutes.

“Show me your dick!” Derek shouts.

“Holy shit,” I say, turning away from the guys. A gut reaction. Maybe because I hope they won’t see me when they look back.

But I’m too curious not to glance over my shoulder. Cap spins around, grabs either side of his khaki shorts and yanks them down with his underwear, revealing an impressive length…especially for being soft. His friends laugh and gaze at each other with wide eyes, clearly as shocked as I am by his reaction.

Derek pulls away from the arm I have around him. I grip his shoulder.

“I’ve gotta go,” he says, his expression stoic, dead serious.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” I say, forcing him to turn with me back toward the condo building.

“That’s my boyfriend,” he whimpers, glancing over his shoulder and shouting, “I love you!”

“I love you, too!” the guy shouts back.

He resists me even more.

“We’re going the wrong way!”

“No, we’re really going the right way.”
Just out of an eighteen-year marriage, the last thing Jackson expects the first time he visits a gay bar is for a sexy, drunk, twenty-six-year-old twink to mistakenly climb into his Jeep. The twink part he’s good with, the drunk part…not so much. As far as Jackson’s concerned, the boy should come with a warning label. But Derek is not as flighty as Jackson thought…he’s actually pretty incredible. Getting to know the wild, funny man is a breath of fresh air. And when Derek calls him Daddy? Christ, he never thought something like that would feel so right.

Derek has serious daddy issues, and his name is Jackson. He’s stubborn and controlling…and ever since Derek woke up in the silver fox’s condo, he can’t get Jackson out of his mind. Maybe because no matter how many times he throws himself at him, Jackson doesn’t take the bait. And maybe because Jackson is the one person who sees him for who he really is. But Derek loves a challenge, and he’s eager to rock Jackson’s world.

Jackson isn’t interested in a meaningless hookup. He wants the real Derek, not just the sassy jokester everyone else sees. But it’s not easy for Derek to open up. He feels much safer guarding his heart. And Jackson needs to figure out the balance between living for himself and the mountain of responsibilities weighing him down. Derek and Jackson must find the common ground between hookup and commitment—if they can’t own their issues and work together to overcome their faults, they could smother the flame between them that’s just beginning to ignite.
I’d felt like an idiot in there, felt out of place.

I whip my head around when I hear a noise behind me to see the back door jerk open and an obviously drunk blond stumble sloppily inside, proving exactly why I’d felt out of place at Cockfight.

“What the fuck are you doing?” I ask.

He looks a little loopy as he flops onto the seat, rolls his eyes at me, and replies, “Just need a breather. I’m sure I’m not the first person who’s been sprawled in the back of your Jeep.”

“No. Seriously—”

His phone rings, cutting me off. “Oh, this might be my Grindr guy.” The kid groans, then says, “Ugh. Not him.” He pulls the phone to his ear. “Hey, Gare-bear.”

Gare-bear? Jesus Christ. What the fuck is going on here?

“Don’t freak out. I’m making a quick stop and then heading home,” he says.

The last thing I want is some kid I don’t know arguing with whoever the fuck Gare-bear is, while in the back of my car. “You need to get out. Right now.”

“Oh my God. Give me like five seconds. You can drive, ya know?”

Drive? I’m not going to drive with him in my car.

“Listen—”

“I have to call you back. This Uber driver is wigging out on me,” he says as everything begins to click into place. He called a car to get a ride wherever he wants to go hook up with his Grindr guy.

“I need you to take me to Viewpoint over on Fifth and Cypress.”

Not happening. “No. You’re in no shape to hook up with anyone right now.”

“Who are you to tell me when I should or shouldn’t hook up? I’m not going to listen to some Uber driver about that. And I don’t mean that in a you’re-just-an-Uber-driver-so-your-opinion-doesn’t-mean-anything way. I mean it in an I-don’t-know-you-and-we’re-not-friends-so-butt-out way.”

Holy fucking shit. What in the hell is going on here?

We lock eyes in the rearview mirror and the look on his face suddenly turns into lust. I see the transition. He’s cute as fuck—a little guy with blond bangs that sweep across his forehead and a gorgeous, pouty mouth. Then I remind myself he’s drunk, and I could be old enough to be his dad and any thoughts of how sexy he is disappear.

“Heyyy,” he sings out with a wave. Oh yeah, he definitely just went from Grindr to me. He flashes me a smile and then adds, “Aren’t you a sexy motherfucker?”

“Look, kid…”

“If you call me that again, you’re gonna have to put a ring on it,” he tells me. Not likely. I had a ring on someone’s finger for eighteen years.

Suddenly, he leans forward and crawls over the console. He almost falls and his cheek bumps into the rearview mirror before he tumbles into the seat.

“I love the graying in your beard. Oh, and the scar by your eye. Are they gray? Fucking hot.”

I take a moment to enjoy the praise but then the reality of the situation hits me again. “You’re in no shape to—”

Then he’s crawling over the console again, toward me this time. “You need to tell me what you need. I’ll make you happy.”

He collapses on me and I sit here, unsure of what to do. It’s not often I feel this way. I’ve always had to take control, to have a good head on my shoulders, but I’ve never been in a situation where a sexy man I don’t know is climbing onto my lap.

“You looked comfy. Just let me lie here for a second,” he says. “One second.” Then…nothing.

What the hell just happened?

I look down at the guy passed out on me. I can’t stay parked in this space forever, but considering there’s a drunk-as-hell guy sleeping in my lap, I’m a little lost on what to do.

“Listen…kid…I have to…” I try to situate him, make him sit up a little, but he groans and his head falls onto my shoulder. All I can think is that he’s fucking lucky he got into the car with me. It could have been anyone, and in the shape he’s in, he definitely wouldn’t have been able to consent. There are a lot of people out there who wouldn’t care that he’s wasted.

“Let me get your phone.” I reach toward the passenger seat and try for his cell. “I can call your friend and—”

“No…please…just…so…tired.” He groans and settles in, nuzzling me like he just fucking needs to be close to someone, and damned if I don’t know then and there I’m not just calling some random friend or kicking this kid out of my car. Not when I can’t be sure he’ll be taken care of.

“Motherfucker.” I try to move him again and this time, he doesn’t reply, doesn’t fight me as I find a way to get him into the passenger seat and get the belt clicked around him.
After his boyfriend dumps him, Hayden is in need of a place to live. Thanks to his buddies, he has a great lead to room with a guy named Cody in Metropolis, the hottest condominium in town. But things get a little uncomfortable when Hayden shows up for the interview and discovers he and Cody share an awkward up close and personal experience from their past.

Cody doesn't have a problem living with Hayden. He's had his share of help when he was down and out, and he wants to do the same for this guy. It's not long until Cody realizes how great it is having someone around. Sometimes, they watch movies together...and other times, they help get each other off--one of the perks of living with a guy who's as laid back about sex as he is. They hit off so well Cody even decides to act as wingman for Hayden while he gets used to hitting the town again.

Before they know it, they're spending more time with each other than with anyone else. But Hayden just got out of a relationship and should be spending his nights having fun and working it around town, not jumping into something serious again. Cody's always just gone with the flow, believing if it's meant to happen, it will. But life doesn't always work that way, and if they don't fight for what's right in front of them, Hayden and Cody might be over before they have the chance to even get started.

Gary is on his mat between Derek and me. We’re on our knees, only in our gym shorts, as we lean back to simulate the yoga position along with the class of about thirty. Steam fills the room.

With my back arched, my chest pointing to the ceiling, I tilt my head up to check out my pose in the mirrored wall. I notice Gary’s abs are looking fierce. He’s always been a cute guy, but ever since he started seeing his boyfriend, Travis, a few months ago, he isn’t ashamed of having a good body and working it. He also has a sparkle in his eyes, even as he struggles to arch back further to mimic the position Derek’s twinky body doesn’t have an issue getting into.

“Derek, do you even have bones?” Gary says as his body trembles from his efforts.

“Is this hard?” Derek asks with a wink before he stretches even more. He tosses his head back, his long blond bangs dripping with sweat that falls onto his mat.

I can only imagine how Derek works these moves in the bedroom. I wouldn’t know because I’ve never had sex with him or Gary. They’re my buddies, and attractive as they both are, I wouldn’t fuck around with them. Not at the risk of losing what we share as friends.

I wasn’t planning on coming to hot yoga tonight. We’d scheduled a guys’ night to chat about my breakup with my boyfriend of three years. But Derek was into the instructor of the class, and he’d already signed up for it before we agreed on when we’d meet. He encouraged us to come here before hanging out to discuss the details of my breakup—something I wasn’t excited about doing anyway. In fact, this is a lot more fun than having to think about the drama and the stress…the pain of how it all came to an end. Plus, the instructor, a six-foot-something guy with an eight-pack, has been a lovely distraction from the post-breakup drama.

Gary glances between us like he’s trying to figure out what he’s doing wrong with his Camel Pose.

“We’re not as flexible as Rubber Boy over there,” I tell him.

Derek turns to the guy on the other side of him—a tower of a man, his body stacked with muscles. He’s got a nice chest of trimmed hair. Kind of a daddy look to him. He’s the sort of guy I figure could toss Derek around the way he needs to be tossed around.

I hear a growl, and it takes me a second to realize it’s Derek.

“Seriously?” Gary mutters. He’s trying to be quiet, but considering the only noise in the room comes from the soothing music beside the yoga instructor’s mat, a few glances shoot our way. Even the instructor looks over, a tense expression on his face like he’s about to say something.

But then his gaze meets mine and his expression shifts to one of interest.

My dick expands in my shorts.

This pose isn’t going to hide anything either. Although, it wouldn’t be terrible if he noticed. I need a good fuck right now.

Desperately.

When class finishes up, Gary, Derek, and I hit the showers. The yoga class is hosted at the Flex gym where we have memberships, so it’s familiar territory for all of us, especially since one of the few times we can manage to meet up is for workouts. After our showers, we regroup in the locker room. I change into my street clothes—a tank and jeans. Gary gets dressed beside me while I pull my glasses out of the case and put them on. I turn to the mirror on the wall opposite the lockers and fix my dark hair so it waves across my head the way I like it. A drop of water runs through the cleft in my chin, and I wipe it off quickly before Derek approaches, bare-ass naked. He leans against his locker, striking a pose.

I can tell it’s for the guy he was growling at in the yoga studio, who changes at a locker on the other side of the room, his gaze continually drifting to Derek’s ass. Derek reaches out to me and runs the back of his forefinger through my scruff, which isn’t very long—maybe a quarter of an inch. “A lot of Midtown boys are gonna be eager to feel that against their itty-bitty holes,” he teases.

“You’re disgusting.”

He keeps stroking his finger through my facial hair, and it starts to make me uneasy when he says, “Just shut up and look at me like you’re interested so he gets jelly.”

Oh, clever little ass. Now I realize what he’s doing, and considering how much the daddy behind him is glancing over at us, it’s clearly working.
Will you marry me, Gary?
Travis never expected to meet the love of his life, especially not with a guy like Gary-his very own Superass. But now that he has, he's not letting him go.
He's got the ring and a plan.
But when his proposal during the biggest fundraiser of the summer doesn't go as expected, it's up to familiar friends to make sure this day ends with someone putting a ring on it.
Because these guys know the hardest thing about love is simply FINDING IT.
*This 17,000-word Metropolis story contains adorable antics, sexy shenanigans, and a fabulous HEA.*
What the fuck am I doing? I can’t start a proposal with ‘Superass.’ ” I run a hand over my face, feeling really fucking out of my element. I don’t typically do “out of my element.” I’m Travis. I’m comfortable in every situation, and if not, I sure as hell am good at faking it. But this…this is different. This is…one of the biggest days in my life and not one I ever would have seen coming if it wasn’t for Gary.

“Relax, Trav,” I tell myself. “This is Gary—my fucking heart. There’s no reason to freak out.” Only, the kicker is, it’s not even Gary right now. It’s me.

Taking a deep breath, I meet my eyes in the bathroom mirror before attempting to propose to myself. Again. “Gary…from the moment I woke up naked in your bed—”

No, I can’t start there because then Derek will jump in with a loud, “You’re welcome” or something like that. No one’s taking credit for this but us.

“Gary,” I say to myself again while holding up the white gold ring with three diamonds along the band. “Let me put a ring on it, so you’ll always be mine.” Jesus Christ, what’s wrong with me? I bite my tongue so I don’t groan again. Proposing is hard shit and as much as I hate admitting it, I’m not sure I’m going to be very good at it.

For just a moment, I consider calling Cody over and practicing on him. He’s the only person who knows what I’m planning. Poor guy. I even swore him to secrecy and wouldn’t let him tell Hayden. He’s too close to Gary for me to risk it, and I’m also not risking my damn pride by calling my BFF over. See how far I’ve come because of Gary? I can even admit how much Cody means to me now.

I clear my throat as though it matters if I’m hoarse while proposing to myself in the mirror. “Marry me. Will you marry me, Gary? Gary, will you—”

“Trav?”

At the sound of Gary’s voice, my heart jumps out of my chest and my fingers fumble. The ring tumbles into the sink, and I frantically reach for it, jamming my thumb into the ceramic. “Oh fuck,” tumbles out of my mouth just as the tip of my finger slips through the ring before it goes down the drain. I don’t have time to think about how wrong this moment could have gone before I look up at the mirror again and see Gary’s eyes staring back at me. Shit. I really fucking suck at this.

Twisting around, I lock my hand behind my back because the smartest thing to do in this situation is to automatically act like I have something to hide. No, being a normal human being would be too much to ask. “Hi,” I say.

“Hi.” Gary’s brows pull together. “What are you doing?”

“Nothing.”

“It doesn’t look like nothing.”

Because it’s not. Because I have a goddamn ring in my sweaty hands, and Christ, it’s fucking hot in here. Why is it so goddamn hot all of a sudden? “I’m just…nervous. About the fundraiser.” Which also happens to be true.

He steps toward me, and I slip the ring into my back pocket. Next time, I’ll practice this shit without the ring. One does not need the actual ring to propose to himself in the bathroom mirror. Also…there’s the tiny fact that the fundraiser is tomorrow and I’m almost out of practicing time, but I’ll ignore that slice of truth.

“It’s cute that you’re nervous, but you don’t have to be. You should be nothing but proud. We did a good thing. This is…this is big, Trav…what we’re doing for the LGBT Youth Center.”

Bigger than you know, Superass, and not just for them.

“I’m glad I caught you before you put your shirt on,” Gary continues as he wraps his arms around me and leans his cheek against my chest. My heart automatically slows down at the contact because being around him always makes everything better. Love is some crazy shit.

“I can imagine you are. I do have a nice chest. Abs too.”

He chuckles and then I slide my arms around him too.

“You do. And quite the big head.”

“You can’t complain about that now. You knew how big it was when you got involved with me,” I tease.

“I did, and I kind of like it.” He looks up at me and presses a quick coffee-flavored kiss to my lips. “But I also love that you’re nervous about the fundraiser. It shows how important it is to you. I’m so damn proud of you for all you do.”

“We do,” I remind him. “I couldn’t do it without you.” Ever since the first fundraiser we were accidentally thrown into, we’ve wanted to do another one. It feels good to do something for others and even better to do it together. Steven, the investor who helped me get my business off the ground, brought the idea for the youth center to Gary and me a couple of months back. We both jumped at the opportunity. It’s been a bigger project than our last fundraiser, a whole hell of a lot more work, but it’s worth it. Watching Gary throw himself into the project made me see even more that there was no one else I wanted in my life—that I wanted him to be mine, officially, for the rest of our lives.
Frankie Ramirez never figured helping a twink-in-need would lead to him finding a bestie, but that's exactly what happened with Evan. Living with him at Metropolis has been a dream come true. Evan's sexy, kind, knows how to make Frankie smile, and he's both hilarious and confident when he sings his heart out during karaoke. Evan's been dealt a bad hand, and Frankie likes being there for him, but Evan does the same for Frankie. When life gets heavy, nothing fixes it like movies, Chinese food, and Evan.

After the betrayal of his dick-of-an-ex, Evan Lockhart has a hard time getting close to people. But the one guy he can always count on is his laid-back, adorable, beanie-wearing bestie, Frankie. Frankie is fiercely loyal and protective-exactly what Evan needs in his life right now. Evan tells him everything, but when he finds himself curious to explore something a little unusual-maybe a little strange-he worries about what will happen if Frankie finds out.

But who better to explore your closet kink with than your best friend? Evan and Frankie know they're strong enough not to let something like this get between them. And really, is there any harm in just TRYING IT?

“It’s fine,” I mutter.

Considering I just met him tonight, it was nice of Frankie to offer to walk me back to my condo building after my ex, Peter, injured me. But even though it hurt when that asshole grabbed me by my wrist and demanded I stay at the bar to listen to more of his lies, it’s not my arm that hurts the most.

It’s my heart.

“The rumors aren’t true, by the way,” I blurt out as we round the corner. Nice as this guy’s being, I would hate to discover he’d bought into whatever everyone’s been saying about me behind my back.

“Evan, if it makes you feel better, I’m not sure what rumors you mean.”

Well, that’s a relief, especially considering I kept hearing the whispers of gossip even as I was making my way through the bar tonight.

Frankie seems nice, but I’m feeling particularly guarded right now, especially after what happened back there with Peter.

“Wanna talk about it?” Frankie asks. “I think the rumor mill can vouch for my incredible listening abilities.”

I laugh, appreciating a joke on such a shit-tastic night. He doesn’t have to do this. He doesn’t even know me—yet here he is, walking me home and asking if I want to talk.

But just as quickly as he got me laughing, I find tears streaming down my face again.

I stop on the sidewalk. “Sorry. I just need a moment.”

God, I’m so emotional sometimes. I thought I’d be able to keep my cool around this hot guy. Just seeing Frankie back at Pump got me all giddy and excited, but the relief was short-lived because I’m still just me…in the middle of a fucked-up breakup with a bastard of an ex.

Frankie leans down in front of me and rests his hand on my shoulder. “Hey, buddy, any chance you like Chinese food?”

“I love Chinese,” I say, my voice cracking as I speak the words.

He slides his phone out of his pocket and asks, “Any requests?”

I should be polite and say, “No, thank you,” but Chinese sounds so good, and I really don’t want to be alone right now.

“General Tso’s chicken,” I mutter.

“You’ve got it.”

Frankie orders some Chinese through an app while escorting me back to my unit. He doesn’t push me to talk, even when we enter my place. He just sits with me on my couch.

As I start to regroup, I’m finally able to look at him again. He notices some magazines on my coffee table before saying, “Holy shit. Are these you?” He riffles through them, checking out the covers, which I’m on.

“Um…yeah,” I say. How embarrassing. “Sorry. I must seem pretty vain. I would hide them, but Peter liked to have them out…to show people. At least now I can put them away.”

“Sounds like you had a real catch,” Frankie says facetiously. “So you’re a model? That’s cool.”

“Ex-model. I’m looking for a new job. It’s kind of something I fell into during high school, and I can’t say it’s been the best thing in the world for me.” I worry I’ve said too much, but he seems too focused on the images to notice.

“These pictures don’t look all that much like you. What’s this face you’re making?”

He tries to imitate it, pursing his lips and squinting his eyes.

“Oh, you mean sexface?” I ask. “That’s my signature expression since I started out.”

I make the expression and he laughs. I feel a little more at ease. I have a sneaking suspicion Frankie’s doing it—finding ways of getting me to relax—on purpose, and I appreciate it.

He leans back into the corner of the sofa, spreading his arms out like he lives here.

He has this sympathetic smirk on his face, the beanie he’s wearing looking adorable with just a bit of dark hair pushing out from under it, angling across his forehead. While I’m glad he came in here with me, I’m nervous he might want to mess around tonight.

I’m not ready for that.

I’ve never been the kind of guy who could mess around with someone I didn’t know. I’ve always felt guarded, protective of that. And of course, that led to me sharing my first time with Peter, the asshole who just broke my heart.

“So you wanna tell me what the deal was back there?” he asks. “Why that asshole Peter was grabbing you like that?”

His jaw tightens, and he balls his hand into a fist.

“No, it’s okay.” I shake my head. I can’t imagine telling someone I don’t know my business like that. Who else would I tell? It’s not like I have any friends I talk to either.…

“Come on. I’m good at listening. It’s kind of my specialty.” He gives me a grin that I can’t help but return. “Please?” he asks again.
There’s something about Frankie…in his laid-back manner and that gentle expression on his face…that makes it easy for me to open up to him. Considering he brought me all the way home and ordered Chinese food for me, I feel I at least owe him an answer. Plus, in case word does reach him through the rumor mill, I’d rather him know my side. “Long story short—when we met, Peter told me he and his boyfriend, Gary, were in an open relationship, and he was so hurt because he’d basically been bullied into it. Then he acted like no one would ever fuck him because he was so old, and his boyfriend was so young.”
