"Wanted: Husband—ASAP!"
My dad’s will has one major hiccup: I need a husband to keep the ranch that’s been my life’s work. Forget that I’ve been running this place solo for years—now, it’s wedding bells or bust.
There’s just one small issue: no groom in sight, and the clock’s ticking down faster than a herd of wild mustangs. Enter Callum Atwood—handsome, rugged, and willing to say “I do” to save my ranch. In my panic, I don’t think twice.

Mission: Marry Callum. Save the ranch. Easy, right?

But when his nosy family gets wind of our plan, they go full-on Parent Trap, pulling every trick in the book to turn this fake marriage into the real deal. CHECK OUT THE COMPLETE MAGNOLIA SERIES AVAILABLE ON AMAZON.

Chapter 1

Violet

The sun is barely up, casting a golden hue over the sprawling acres of Sagebrush Ranch, and already my boots are coated in dust. I take a deep breath, letting the familiar scent of fresh hay and morning dew calm my nerves. This land has been my whole life, my sanctuary, and now it feels like it’s slipping through my fingers like dry sand.

"Violet! There you are."

I turn to see Joey, our long-time ranch hand, jogging toward me with an envelope clutched in his weathered hand. His gray mustache twitches with concern, and my stomach does a little flip. Mail this early is never good news.

"Morning, Joey. What's that you've got there?" I ask, wiping my hands on my jeans.

He hands me the envelope, his eyes scanning my face for a reaction. "Came by special delivery. Thought you'd want to see it right away."

I glance at the return address and feel my heart sink. It's from Dad's lawyer. Again. I thought we'd settled all this weeks ago. With a shaky breath, I tear it open and start reading. As my eyes dart across the page, my blood pressure rises with each word.

"You've got to be kidding me," I mutter, crumpling the letter in frustration.

Joey raises an eyebrow. "Bad news?"

"Ridiculous news is more like it." I exhale sharply, trying to keep my cool. "Apparently, there's a clause in Dad's will that states I have to be married by my 30th birthday to inherit the ranch."

Joey's eyes widen. "But that's only... what? Three months away?"

"Two and a half," I correct, pinching the bridge of my nose. Trust Dad to throw a curveball from beyond the grave. "Why would he do this? He knew how much this place means to me."

Joey scratches his head, his hat shifting slightly. "Maybe he wanted to make sure you settled down, had someone to share the load with."

I let out a humorless laugh. "I don't need a man to run this ranch. I've been doing just fine on my own."

"That you have," he agrees, nodding. "But the law is the law, I suppose. What are you gonna do?"

I look out over the pastures where the horses graze peacefully, oblivious to the turmoil brewing inside me. Selling the ranch isn't an option. This land has been in our family for generations. It's where I learned to ride, where Mom taught me to plant sunflowers, where every memory of Dad still lingers in the creaking barn doors and weathered fence posts.

"I'm going to find a way to keep what's mine," I declare, determination hardening my voice.

Joey smiles, the kind that reaches his eyes and warms the chill settling in my bones. "That's the Violet I know. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help."

"Thanks, Joey. For now, let's keep this between us, okay? I don't need the whole town gossiping about my sudden need for a husband."

He chuckles, tipping his hat. "My lips are sealed."

As Joey heads back toward the stables, I pull out my phone and scroll through my contacts. It's a short list, mostly ranch suppliers and a few old friends who are more acquainted with saddles than matchmaking. Dating hasn't exactly been a priority between early-morning feedings and late-night barn repairs.
From USA Today bestselling author Logan Chance comes a wickedly, funny romcom that'll have you laughing out loud one minute and swooning the next. What happens when you fall for your ex-boyfriend's younger brother?

Everyone has secrets. Even me, the quiet bookworm who owns the small-town bookstore. But my secret? It's a doozy. I've never experienced the big-O. Yep, no man has ever made me see fireworks.

I thought I’d take this secret to my grave until my ex-boyfriend’s younger brother waltzes into my shop and catches me making a wish on a star.

Mortified doesn’t even begin to cover it. But then Tripp Atwood, the town's charming playboy destined to run the local brewery, drops his own bombshell—he wants to be a romance author!

Now, we’re in a covert I'm his beta reader, and he’s dedicated to fulfilling my wildest fantasies. And boy, is he good at it.

As the lines between fiction and reality blur, I can’t help but am I headed for a heartbreak, or is this the real thing?

* This is an interconnected standalone with a happily ever after.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Millie

“I love this story so much,” Claire says, holding the book close to her chest as she squeezes her eyes shut. “And the romance was chef’s kiss,” she says, her eyes opening as she kisses the tips of her fingers.

What did you think, Millie?” Helena asks me, settling into the oversized stuffed wingback chair in the back of my quaint bookshop.

“Well, honestly?” I ask, my voice faltering. “The love story was okay, but I felt like it was a bit too fictional for me. Like, nobody ever really feels like that, ya know?”

All the women of the Biddies Book Club stare at me like I’m an alien with two heads and tentacles. Much like the tentacles in the book we were reading.

“What?” I ask with a shrug.

“You’re kidding, right? Millie please tell me you’re joking.” Arlene asks, shaking her head.

Arlene’s been married seven times. And she always says each time was better than the last. She loves to talk about her wild adventures, and has even been known to talk about her active sex life at sixty-three years old.

I blink.

The women erupt into a cacophony of chatter, and sounds of clinking glassware.

“Millie, you’ve never had string-them-from-the-chandelier type of sex?” Helena asks.

June swats her hand at Helena. “Of course she has. Haven’t you sweetie?” June’s bright blues connect with mine.

“Um, well, not exactly.”

All six women in the Biddies Book Club stare at me in horror and disbelief. June covers her mouth in a silent gasp, her eyes wide with shock. Helena and Claire mirror her expression, their eyes almost comically large. Nelly looks like she might spontaneously combust, her face a mix of red and pale. Hazel is shaking her head back and forth, muttering under her breath. Arlene’s mouth opens and closes like a fish gasping for air, her hand clutching her chest.

And then there’s me, the unofficial seventh member of the Biddies Book Club, and also the youngest, I might add. When the women formed the club, they asked if they could host their weekly book club in my shop, Book, Spine, and Sinker Book Shop. Of course, I said yes, and over the years, I've joined in the fun.

Because if there’s one thing these women are, it’s fun. They’re all in their mid-to-late sixties, and every one of them is as unique as the next. June, with her impeccable fashion sense and sassy attitude, always has a witty remark ready. Helena, the quiet intellectual, often surprises us with her dry humor. Claire, the retired teacher, brings structure and insightful commentary to our discussions. Nelly, the former actress, adds dramatic flair and passion to every meeting. Hazel, with her nurturing demeanor, keeps us all grounded, while Arlene, the adventurous traveler, shares tales from her globetrotting escapades.

Each meeting is a blend of laughter, heated debates, and genuine camaraderie, and being a part of this eclectic group has been one of the highlights of my life.

“Millie, why haven’t you let a man spoil you? Weren’t you dating that Atwood boy for a while? What’s his name? Brock, right?” June asks, looking to the group for an answer.

“It was Brock. He’s so good-looking,” Nelly says with a smile. “I’d let him float my boat, if you know what I mean.”

I gasp. “It wasn’t like that, at all.” My eyes implore the others. “Seriously, we had zero chemistry. Honestly, we never did anything more than kiss.”

Claire clears her throat. “Millie, you’re not a virgin, are you?”

I shake my head. “No, I’ve had sex before. With Kyle and Ron, my ex’s.” I blink. “Obviously not at the same time,” I rush out, making sure they know I’m not into reverse harem style like we sometimes read about in the club.

“And neither of them ever rocked your world?” Helena asks.

“Define rock your world?”

“Oh dear,” Hazel says with a roll of her eyes. “We need to find you a man.”

I hold up a hand. “No, thank you. I’m all good.”

“Why, dear?” Hazel asks, her tone soft and neutral.

“I’m just busy with the store. I’m looking to expand. I’d like to add on a bakery.”

“That’s a fantastic idea,” Helena says, changing the subject. “Are you going to be doing the baking, or will you hire out?”

I nod, happy for the change. “I’ll hire out. Trust me,” I laugh. “You don’t want me baking anything.”

“I do love a good macaron.” Arlene says, and then launches into one of her stories about her travels to France.

Again, I’m thankful for the change in subject, but it gets me thinking. Is there really something wrong with me because I’ve never had good sex? If I’m being honest with myself, I’ve never even had a man make me orgasm before.

It’s silly, I know, but it’s the god’s honest truth.

A truth that haunts me late at night.

Maybe it’s just the type of woman I am. Maybe there’s something physically wrong with me. I can have orgasms just fine on my own, but never with the help of a man.
From USA Today bestselling author Logan Chance comes a hilarious tale all about a fake relationship that leads to some seriously funny times. This steamy enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy is sure to bring all the laughs while causing your Kindle to combust at the same time.

My best friend is getting married in the glitzy, wild city of Las Vegas, and I’m honored to be a bridesmaid. There’s just one tiny hiccup—my ex-boyfriend is also in the wedding party.

I almost skip the whole thing, but then, at the airport, my knight in shining armor shows up. Well, more like Brock Atwood in scuffed Chucks. Brock offers to pretend to be my boyfriend to fool my ex into thinking I've moved on.

What’s in it for Brock? He gets a weekend free from his mother’s relentless matchmaking, and I get the satisfaction of making my ex green with envy.

The catch? Brock and I have never exactly been best buds, so our fauxmance has everyone raising eyebrows. We’ll need Oscar-worthy performances to pull this off.

But as the lines between pretend and reality start to blur, I can’t help but am I setting myself up for the ultimate heartbreak?

*This is an interconnected standalone with a happily ever after.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Playlist

"Marry You" by Bruno Mars
I’m standing in the security line, balancing on one foot like a flamingo as I wrestle with my stubborn left sneaker. My bag slides off my shoulder and hits the floor with a dull thud, but I ignore it. I’m on a mission. Get shoe off. Get shoe off now.

“Ma’am, you need to keep the line moving,” the TSA agent says, sounding like he’s one more dropped sneaker away from a meltdown.

“I’m trying,” I reply, maybe a little too loudly. The man behind me coughs, and I feel his eyes drilling holes into the back of my head. I finally manage to yank the shoe off, sending it flying onto the conveyor belt with the grace of a professional bowler. Nailed it.

As I shuffle through the metal detector in mismatched socks—one pink, one green—I remind myself why I’m here. Vegas. Hartford’s wedding. My friend is getting hitched to a man who looks like he stepped out of a romance novel. And I’m her bridesmaid. No pressure, right?

With the security ordeal over, I make my way to Gate 17, clutching my boarding pass like a lifeline. My heart is doing this weird fluttery thing, which I tell myself is excitement and not a premonition of impending disaster. After all, what could possibly go wrong?

I find a seat in the crowded waiting area and plop down, grateful for a moment to breathe. I fish my phone out of my bag and shoot Hartford a text.

Me: Just made it through security. Can’t wait to see you!

A reply pings back almost immediately.

Hartford: Yay! Can’t wait to see you too! Remember, you’re the one holding my dress when I pee.

I laugh, earning a curious glance from the elderly woman beside me. I try to explain, but she just nods knowingly. I guess some things don’t change no matter how old you get. Weddings are one of those things.

The loudspeaker crackles to life, announcing that my flight to Las Vegas is now boarding. I grab my bag and join the queue, which, of course, is already a jumbled mess. I end up behind a tall guy in a black t-shirt and Chucks who’s shouting into his Bluetooth headset about beer making. I still. I know that voice.

Brock Atwood. Brother of the groom, and somebody I do not get along with.

It’s already bad enough my ex-boyfriend, Lake Spriggs, will be at this wedding, now I get to fly on a plane with Brock.

He hasn’t noticed me yet, so I make a mental note to remain invisible. He doesn’t have to know I was ever on this flight.

Simple.

As I step onto the plane, the familiar scent of stale coffee and recycled air hits me. I find my seat—13A, a window seat, thank goodness—and stow my bag in the overhead bin. I’m just settling in when I hear that familiar voice I’m trying desperately to avoid.

“Excuse me, I think that’s my seat.”

I look up and see him. Brock Atwood. Incredibly handsome in every sense of the word. It’s a shame really. Too bad he has to be so gorgeous, because he’s a complete pain in my ass. Has been since we were kids. Perfect. I glance at my boarding pass again, hoping I’ve made a mistake. Nope. 13A. I gesture to the empty middle seat beside me.
From the bestselling author Logan Chance comes a hilarious tale all about a one-night stand that leads to more than just a memory. This steamy enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy is sure to bring all the laughs while causing your Kindle to combust at the same time.

Falling for your grumpy neighbor? That’s rule number one in the book of what not to do. Seriously, who could ever be into Shepherd Atwood, the king of grouchiness?
Apparently, me.
In a bid to prove that my love life isn’t a complete disaster, fate throws me a curveball, and Shepherd offers to help. One magical night later, I thought maybe, just maybe, this prickly guy had a heart after all. But then, poof! He vanishes for months.
Now, I’ve got a surprise of my own—a baby on the way.
When Shepherd finally reappears and learns about the baby, he’s all in, ready to play daddy. Could this be the start of an unlikely love story? Or am I setting myself up for more heartbreak?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Playlist

Thank you to my Naughty and Greedy Girls over on Patreon for coming up with the Playlist for Shepherd and Felicity.

The first 7 chapters of this book is the prequel: The Beard That Stole Christmas.

Enjoy…

Chapter 1

Felicity

This will be my first holiday without my fiancé, Karl by my side. That asshole stole three years of my life, and I’ve got nothing to show for it except a pile of debt and a bad case of the lonelies. Not that I’d have stayed with him to drown out the lonelies. No way. He left me at the altar, and I am not ok with that.

He told me he loved me. We were creating a life together. I wanted children. And I thought he did too.

I went through all the stages of a bad breakup, and sure, I cried for a few months but then my best friend, Emmie, told me I needed to get back out there.

Date.

I’m so not ready for that.

She, however, says I am.

Either way, I don’t plan on dating anyone anytime soon. My plan is to get through this holiday season as drunk as possible. I grab a bottle of wine, and sit at my dining room table, glancing outside.

My neighborhood is a quaint little subdivision with fun and laughter. Everyone gets along, and for the most part, I love my neighbors.

Except for him.

Shepherd Atwood.

The neighborhood grump. While everyone else enjoys the company of others in the neighborhood, Shepherd keeps to himself. Which I wouldn't mind so much if he were indeed a good neighbor, but he’s not.

Like right now.

Leaves from his yard blow into mine, piling up and creating twice the work for me to do. Why can’t he rake his leaves like everyone else in the neighborhood? I should just go over there and give him a piece of my mind.

My anger boils, and I breathe in deep. Yes, I’m going to go and tell Shepherd Atwood exactly where he needs to stick his rake.

Wait. Oh my god.

My lighted Christmas deer display is gone. I look down the street, wondering where on earth they’ve gone. They didn’t just run away.

It was a three-piece set. A father, a mother, and a little deerling. I even named them. Freddy, Freida, and Frou-frou.

My eyes scan my yard, and the only thing littering the lawn is the leaves from Shep’s yard. All of my Christmas decor is gone.

The lights.

The reindeer.

The Santa statue at the end of my driveway.

Missing.

What the heck?

That’s when I see it. A hoof sticking out of his trash container on the side of his house.

I leap to my feet. He threw my reindeer away.

Oh, this is not the day.

He can not throw away my decor on the very day I’m feeling sorry for myself. I’m going to go over there and yell at him.

I’m going to knock on his door and—Oh, I’m just so mad. I don’t know what I’m going to do just yet. But it’ll be something to teach him a lesson.

I stare out my window, picturing what he’ll do when I yell at him. How he’ll look when I’m cursing him out.

His intense eyes get lodged in my brain, and I’m momentarily stunned just thinking about him.

Did I mention he’s handsome?

A very handsome jerk.

He’s on his porch, and I narrow my eyes on him through my window.

He’s large, a man’s man, and in charge. Muscles bulge behind his flannel, and his jeans fit him snugly. I’ve only seen him a handful of times, but from what I’ve seen, I can tell he works out. Or maybe he has a job that requires him to use his hands.

I wonder what the exact shade of his eyes are. I’ve only talked to him once, and he was rude and cold. Bitter about my Christmas lights last year shining into his bedroom window.
What happens when you fall for your older brother's best friend?

They say there are lines you shouldn't cross, but where's the fun in that? Especially when it comes to falling for your brother's best friend...

Picture this: I've got five brothers, and I'm the only girl. Standing out isn't easy, especially with my big bro breathing down my neck. So, when I pitched my genius idea for jazzing up our family establishment, Atta Boy Brewery, you can bet he wasn't on board. Maybe he thinks I'm too much of a risk, or maybe he's just protecting his turf.

The best friend? Griffin Cole, the hotshot chef and my brother's lifelong buddy. When I suggested turning a dusty storage room of the brewery into a party zone, I didn't expect Griffin to have my back. Suddenly, we're cooking up more than just great beer ideas together.

Late nights, shared laughs, and a dash of chemistry have us toeing the line between friendship and something a whole lot juicier.

But when we take that leap, it's a game-changer.

It's sizzling.

It's wild.

And it's totally off-limits.

Now Griffin's torn: keep the relationship a secret, or take a shot at something that could turn our worlds upside down. And when family drama threatens to tear us apart, will we fight to save what we’ve cooked up?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Griffin

Four Years Earlier

Sunday dinner with the Atwood family is a lifelong tradition, a ritual that holds a special place in my heart. It’s been a while since I was here, but after finishing culinary school, I’m back in Magnolia Ridge. It feels good to be home. It feels great to be with my best friend, Callum, again. He’s the brother I never had, the only person who knows my secrets. Without him and the Atwood family, I’d have no one.

Now that I’ve earned my culinary degree and Callum has finished his training to become a brewmaster, we can finally build our dream—a brewery.

While Carol, Callum’s mom, is busy in the kitchen, and Don, his father, is outside with Tripp and Brock, Callum’s youngest brothers, I’m sitting with Callum, Shepherd, and Paxton at the dining room table. Callum is the oldest, followed by Shepherd, who’s more of a lone wolf. He enjoys staying home and working around his house. Next is Paxton. He’s probably the most rambunctious of the group. He loves beer, and I think the brewery may have even been his idea when we were in high school. After Paxton is Anya, and what can I say about Anya? She’s tough. You’d kind of have to be, to be the only girl with an onslaught of guys in the house. After her is Brock. He’s strong, and confident, and loves the outdoors. Lastly is Tripp, the baby of the family. He’s your typical kid. Loves video games and that’s about it.

The aroma of Carol’s cooking wafts through the house, a comforting mix of spices and roasted meats that brings back countless memories. Laughter and the sounds of clinking glasses fill the room as the family catches up on the week’s events. It’s a lively, bustling atmosphere that I’ve missed dearly.

“So, how does it feel to be back?” Shepherd asks, leaning back in his chair and regarding me with a smile.

“It feels incredible,” I reply. “I’ve missed this—the noise, the chaos, and especially Carol’s cooking.”

Paxton grins. “Yeah, Mom’s food is something else. You’re in for a treat tonight. She’s making her famous lasagna.”

Callum nudges me. “And don’t forget, we’ve got our brewery plans to discuss. We’ve been dreaming about this for years, and now it’s finally happening.”

I nod, excitement bubbling up inside me. “I know. I can’t wait to get started. We’re going to make something amazing.”

The four of us continue talking about getting the brewery going and I can’t remember a time I’ve been more excited about something. Callum will own the brewery outright, and bring me on as the head chef. I wish I had the money to buy-in, but that’s just not in the cards right now. Maybe someday I can.

We’re young, Callum and I are the oldest at twenty-three, while Shepherd is twenty-two, and Paxton is twenty-one, but we’re ready. We’re all in. This idea is something we’ve had for years and I know it’s going to be a success.

“So, the old power plant is for sale and I think it’s the perfect location. The building is huge, the property is great, and there’s so much we can do with it. Dad and I already talked to his realtor friend who has it on the market and he’s willing to cut his commission in half,” Callum says, crossing his arms as he looks between us.

“That sounds amazing,” I say.

“Yeah, I think we should all go for a tour and check it out,” Shepherd replies.

Paxton nods with a big grin. “Let’s do this.”

“Since Dad is our investor, we need to make sure he agrees with it all. I’m sure he will, but until we pay back what he’s invested, there’s a lot at stake for him,” Callum explains.

Imagine having a father who is not only supportive of your dreams, but actually puts his money in to make it a reality? Donald Atwood is that father. He’s not my father, but I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve imagined he was.

Being a part of this makes me feel like I’m more of a son and brother than anything has before. It’s something I will never take for granted and I will be grateful forever.

“This is all so exciting,” Paxton says.

Callum nods. “Okay, let’s go over positions.”

Shepherd nods, and we all lean in closer.

“I’m now a master brewer and I’ve made a spreadsheet of what everyone can do. Obviously, Griffin will be our head chef.” He glances at me and grins. “You ready for it, man?”

“Hell yes. It’s the chance of a lifetime,” I reply, excited to create my own menu.

“You could cook before, I can’t imagine how much better it will be now,” Paxton says.

I chuckle and lean back in the chair. “Just wait, you’re gonna be blown away.”

I’m not a cocky guy, but I am confident in my cooking. I’ve worked my ass off to get to where I am and while everything else in my life may be a mess, my cooking is flawless. I can’t wait to create menus and show off all the new skills I’ve learned.
A wickedly, funny romcom that'll have you laughing and swooning one minute, and hot and sweaty the next. Follow along as Paxton and Hartford try to navigate a world they know nothing about--B D S M!

I’ve always lived by one major rule, don’t fall for your best friend, and this is one rule I can’t break.

I’m supposed to write an article about a topic so scandalous, I can’t even say it. Starts with B, followed by DSM.

I know nothing about the lifestyle, so I’m committed to learning the ropes—pun intended. When my best guy friend offers his help, I happily accept.

Paxton Atwood might be ridiculously handsome, but we’re platonic and there will be rules to follow.
#1 No kissing
#2 Keep our undies on
#3 No actual boinking!
We start out easy, but exploring this new world is hard. The public play ends with me getting shocked in the local restaurant by the machinery, and our foray into restraints ends with Paxton in the emergency room.

We try a few other scenarios but they all end in disaster. Until I accidentally set my place on fire, and move in with Paxton. Now we’re sharing one bed, and forced to spend time alone together, perfecting our “scenes.”

What do they say about rules? They’re made to be broken, and once we break one rule…we break them all. But how do I walk away from him once this assignment is over?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Hartford

“Wait, did you say BDSM?” My eyes widen as I process my boss’s unexpected assignment detail. “As in…bondage? Forgive me if I’m misunderstanding and there is another meaning for BDSM, like Bread—”

Mr. Charleston’s hearty laughter cuts me off and ripples through his office before he confirms he indeed meant bondage.

“Don’t look so shocked, Hartford. Takes every type to make the world interesting. I want you to uncover all the mysteries,” he says, resting his forearms on his mahogany desk.

I jot in my notebook, uncover all the things and wow as I nod, attempting to grasp the gravity of this peculiar assignment. In the year I’ve worked at Cobblestone Chronicles, my lifestyle pieces have focused on ordinary topics. Local festivals, music, or family-focused activities.

Five minutes ago, when I entered Mr. Charleston’s office, I expected accolades for my piece on 10 Ways to Make The Internet Safer for Your Kids. Little did I know, he would ask me to forget all those safety tips and delve into the dark corners of the internet for an exposé on BDSM.

“Right. All the things. Such as...” I let my words linger in the air, the atmosphere thick with curiosity.

“As I see it,” Mr. Charleston says, “women who read Cobblestone Chronicles want adventure in their life. They want excitement. They want to explore their sexuality. We need to give that to them.”

I swallow past the boulder lodged in my throat and jot down the word adventure, followed by sex in my notebook.

“BDSM is no longer confined to dark clubs or basements.” He leans back in his leather chair. “This is a new era, and today’s movies and books have normalized it from being a dirty secret to something any mom can do in her house. Can they though? You’ll give them that experience and let them decide.”

I nod in agreement, my pen capturing his words in my notes:

Watch dirty movies.

Buy erotic books.

Moms can tie themselves up at home.

WTF?

I glance up from my notebook and meet his gaze. “Right, yes. Okay, I’ll research BDSM and get that to you.”

“That’s the thing,” he says. “I don’t want an ordinary internet search. I want bigger—better. I want you to use those phenomenal journalistic skills I know you have and give me an article that our readers won’t expect. Something that will catch their attention. Something that will put us on the map, grow our readership. If you don’t feel comfortable, I can find someone else.”

Seconds tick by as I consider whether to pass on this assignment. I should bow out gracefully, but my ambition to leave a mark with my writing and reach a global audience is difficult to ignore. “I can do this.”

Mr. Charleston’s grin emerges beneath his shaggy, overgrown mustache. “Good. My plan is to add a new feature called Ridge Reflections to our online platform. People gossip in this town, so I realize you may want to keep this private. I have no problem with you using a pen name.”

“Okay, I’ll think about whether I want to use one.”

“When this idea came to me, I did a little research myself and they have local meetups for BDSM. They’re called munches. You should be able to get great interviews.”

I can’t stop nodding at this point as I make more notes:

Don’t have a heart attack.

Munch while interviewing people in bondage gear.

“Have the final proof in my inbox in three weeks,” he declares, wrapping up our unusual conversation with a deadline hanging in the air.

As I stand, I push my glasses further up my nose with a shaky finger. “Thank you for the opportunity,” I tell him before I leave his office in a panicked daze.

I know nothing about BDSM. Never been inclined to change that fact. The last time I had sex was a year ago.

After my breakup with Grant, the desire to jump back into the dating scene didn’t excite me. Sex has never been a monumental aspect of my life. My girlfriends insist I haven’t found the right man to sweep me off my feet, but I wonder if I’m just not that into it.

Can someone simply not find pleasure in sex? Is that a valid thing? Because, truth be told, it hasn’t been a priority for me. Now, as I embark on this unexpected journey into the world of BDSM, I can’t help but question my stance on the matter. Maybe this exploration will lead me to unravel more than just the intricacies of a provocative lifestyle.

It’s quitting time, so I push away lingering concerns about the assignment and head to my cubicle to gather my things.

“Are you rushing home to chill with Paxton?” Delia asks as I hustle past her desk. “Let me guess. Pad Thai for dinner?”

I stop outside her cubicle. “Yeah, it’s his favorite.” Paxton travels a lot for his job, so he likes to have one day a week where he gets to unwind and relax over his favorite meal. And I’m happy to oblige him. This has been our quirky tradition for over ten years, dating back to his fifteenth birthday, where he ate about half his weight in Pad Thai.
