I have to make sure not to mess up their schedule, and meet their “other potential needs” as well.

Sascha
I’ve worked hard to land a job in my dream company. But landing my dream job was only the beginning. When Erin asked me about entering a lifestyle with two men, I thought it was a joke. How could one be with more than one man?
Then I meet trouble – times three. My new bosses. Three gorgeous, possessive, over-the-top alphas that can undress me with one single glance.

Ian. The HR manager. Tall. Solidly built. Seductive.
Ryland. The COO. Dominant, demanding and intense. A total monster.
Carson. The CEO. Mysterious, powerful, and drop-dead gorgeous.
Before I get the junior editor position that I truly want, I’d need to report to all of them.

My jaw almost dropped when they told me that they all wanted to be with me. So I accept their offer to go on a date with each of them before I pick only one. But I can’t make up my mind.
The more connections I have with each man, the more addicted I get. I want not just one, but three of them.
Now they all want me in their office for a very private meeting, and say that everything that’s going to happen would have to remain strictly confidential.
And I have a feeling that this is about to get dark, filthy, and a whole lot messier.
I had just gone out for my nightly cycle, and with my compact, muscular arms, I lifted the bike over my head and into the house. Placing my bike near the front door, I took off my helmet and united my strawberry blond-hair from my high ponytail, dropping it to tickle my waist. My stomach indicated I was hungry, but my mind was concentrating on other things.

I was finally going to interview with Calliope Publishing. You never really know what to expect from any new job, but in order to become a Junior Editor at a high profile company like Calliope you need to make a great impression to stay employed. I tried to psych myself up: I know I can get this job, I can nail it, I can relax.

Opening the fridge, I took out all of the ingredients I was going to need for my morning shake. They helped keep my mind focused and I knew I was going to be too anxious, running around trying to get other things ready to be able to focus on making it in the morning. I figured if I made enough now, I could have a shake tonight as well to help satiate my hunger. I measured out my ingredients and started the blender, only just barely hearing my phone ring over the roar. I picked it up and brought it to my ear.

"Hello?" I answered, but the whirling of the blender made whatever Erin was saying inaudible. "Sorry, hold on!" With my phone in my hand, I tried to turn the blender off.

“Hello? Hell-o?” Erin yelled on the other end.

“Yes, hey!” I laughed, “Sorry about that!”

"What the hell are you doing?" She laughed along with me.

Erin Bellose had recently graduated from law school with high marks. I was really proud of all the success she’d gained as a practicing lawyer. She was incredibly smart, really pretty, and more importantly, my best friend.

"I’m just a little hungry," I said.

"You should save some for me." she snickered "I’ll come over."

"A little late for that." I chuckled.

"Relax, you don’t have to keep apologizing," Erin remarked. She was right, I had an awful habit of apologizing, but I couldn’t help it.

"Hey, I hope you don’t mind, but how’s it going with Jackson and Caleb?" I look a seat at one of my bar stools that hugged the counter-top. It was a modest kitchen, full of everything I needed and nothing more.

It was just a week ago at our friend Greer’s Halloween wedding that Erin admitted to me she was considering entering into a polyamorous relationship with two men. We’d had a blast that week, spending a lot of time with our friend Hanna at a club on the strip called Overground. One day, she told us that the men who owned the club were both interested in her and she’d been engaging in some kind of a polyamorous relationship with them, but wasn’t sure if it was going to turn into anything or not. Apparently, one of the men had PTSD, but her feelings for them both was pretty strong; she even used the word ‘love.’ She’d been fairly tight-lipped about it since then, but curiosity got the best of me when I decided to ask. I was also anxious to know if she was finally over her ex.

"Mmm,” she hummed. “I guess time will tell.”

“Oh,” I replied.

“No, it’s not bad, I just need to figure some things out.

I felt my stomach turn over. “Braxton things?”

Erin scoffed so loud I thought her spit was going to fly through my phone. "Who? Who’s that? I’ve never heard of a guy by that name." Erin laughed, and I laughed with her. Even if she was still figuring things out, she sounded happier and it was refreshing.

"Well, I don’t really get being in-love with two people at once, but as long as you’re happy, I’m happy." Maybe my subtle prying would get more information out of her.

"Honestly, I’m learning as I go too,” she replied. "Thanks for the support, Sascha."

"Anytime." Even though I was happy for Erin, I needed to get in the shower. "Erin? Sorry but I have to go. Busy day tomorrow."

"Oh right, you have that interview tomorrow, yeah?"

"Yeah,” I said, even though just being reminded of it made me nervous.

"I’ll let you go then. Good luck!"

"You too!"

I felt a pang in my stomach. Even though I was happy for her, I still wanted something like Erin had, even with just one man. We both said goodnight to each other, and after finishing my shake, I showered and tucked myself into bed at 10:00, sharp. As I laid there, I couldn’t help but wonder about a relationship with two men. It seemed sort of exhausting and like jealousy would play a role, but what did I know? I put it out of my mind and decided to make sure I was rested for my interview. It was my dream to get this job, and I wasn’t going to get it if I stayed up all night worrying about my friend’s relationship. I closed my eyes, snuggled into my covers, and drifted off to sleep.
I never thought I’d be raising a baby with ten burly mountain men.
A dentist by day, my true passion is hiking. Little did I know that my six-month Appalachian adventure would lead to me falling in love with ten hot as sin men.
My heart flutters when I meet Ryker Dennison.
Like me, he’s been adopted. Unlike me, he’s brave enough to search for his biological family who live in the Appalachian mountains.
Intelligent and kind, he draws me in immediately.
His dark complexion, intense gaze, and muscular body make it hard to focus on the hiking, and before long, we’re making passionate love.
With a snowstorm brewing, Ryker and I hurry to find his family.
His strikingly handsome nine brothers welcome him with open arms.
As for me, the sexual chemistry I feel with the ten men is all-consuming.
I could watch their muscular bodies all day long. And soon, I want to do more than just watch.
This should be wrong, but it feels so right.
How I can desire ten men at once? It’s absolutely crazy, but what’s even crazier, is that the ten brothers tell me they would share everything.
All is going well until our reverse harem relationship is threatened.
Terrified, I make a decision that could cost me everything, especially when I discover that I’m with child.
Will I raise my baby alone or find a way to reconnect with my ten mountain men?
If you’re kind and respectful to people, and you come at them with a drill aimed at their mouth, the opportunities that open up to you are all the more unimaginable.

I started another anything-but-routine day at my dental practice with a simple teeth-whitening session for the head of one of the biggest banks in San Diego. Despite my hand in his mouth and a pick scraping at his teeth, he still tried to flirt with me—perhaps it was because I had my hand in his mouth and was scraping at his teeth with a pick that he flirted with me. With bankers, you never can be sure. Between gargles and spits, he told me about the yacht he’d recently purchased. After the session, he handed me his card and told me to call him if I ever wanted to sail to Hawaii with him.

There was little to no chance I was going to take him up on that. Not because I’d just seen him lying in my chair, a bib on his chin and spitting into a bowl every few minutes—though that didn’t improve his chance—but mainly because of the wedding band on his finger. That was a deal-breaker.

Sandy, my over-efficient receptionist, pulled the phone down to her chest and turned to me. “I bumped your eleven o’clock back a half hour. Mrs. Freedman has an emergency. She’s in the waiting room now.”

I didn’t have the time to respond before Sandy had resumed her phone call. I put on a smile and stepped into the waiting room. “Mrs. Freedman.”

She held the right side of her jaw in one hand and her clutch in the other. Despite the expertly applied make-up, the designer threads, and the fresh-from-the-salon coif, I could tell she was in bad shape.

“Right this way, Mrs. Freedman.” I gave her a sympathetic smile as she entered my surgery.

“The right side of my mouth is all puffed up,” she said. “And it kills. It really kills.”

“Have a seat, Mrs. Freedman. Let me have a look.”

Undoubtedly, she was in a lot of pain. I’d seen this countless times before—an untreated abscess that’s led to significant tooth decay. I applied a local anesthetic, and within minutes she relaxed and breathed a sigh of relief.

“I’m afraid I’m going to have to remove the tooth.”

“Good,” she said, to my surprise, “that tooth has been a pain for weeks. I’ll be glad to get rid of it.”

“I wish you had come to see me sooner.”

“Honey, I have been so busy I haven’t even had time to see my own shadow.”

With her mouth half-numb and fully open and my fingers working on loosening her tooth, she continued talking. “If I say no to a charity, I end up feeling guilty. Then the next few weeks, I’m double and triple booked. Then I inevitably have to cancel a few fundraisers, which has me feeling guilty again. And the cycle just repeats and repeats.”

Mrs. Freedman had been coming to me for her dental needs since I first opened my practice nearly four years ago. She was one of my first patients. Actually, it was largely thanks to her that my practice had thrived as much as it had. Mrs. Freedman was a prominent figure in San Diego’s bustling social scene: an influencer, a fundraiser, a champion of many worthy causes. Word of mouth can get you a lot of business, especially if that mouth belongs to Felicity Freedman.

“Well, I’m afraid your mouth will be a bit sore for a couple of days,” I told her. “You might not want to, but it would be advisable to take it easy for the next couple of days, at least.”

“Doctor’s orders?”

I smiled and cocked my head to the side. “I couldn’t give you orders, Mrs. Freedman. Let’s call it a suggestion, a very strong suggestion.”

“That’s good enough for me,” she said, quite relieved. “Now I have to scale back on my commitments, and there’s nothing I can do about it. Impossible to feel guilty for what I can’t control, isn’t that right?”

“Absolutely,” I said.

“Doctor’s orders.” She gave me an exaggeratedly stern look. “I’m sorry. Doctor’s a very strong suggestion.”

I nodded. “You have nothing to feel guilty about, except if you ignore my suggestion and have to come back here for another abscess on the left side of your mouth.”

“Honey, as much as I like you and as much as I appreciate all the help you give me, I don’t wish to see you again for quite some time. No offense intended.”

I shook my head. “None taken. Although, I will need to see you again for a possible bone graft and a dental implant, depending on what you want to do about the missing tooth, now.”
My world is turned upside down when nine hot-as-sin marine men decide to claim me.
Burned by my cheating ex, my only love is the café I run in San Diego. Then, one day, marine triplets show up. It’s impossible to resist their flirtation. Tough, with battle-hardened bodies and sharp minds, they’re what wet dreams are made of.
Soon I find myself breaking all my rules and becoming more adventurous than ever. I’m sexting with the guys, saying naughty things I’ve never dared to utter.
When they tell me that there are nine of them and that they share everything, I’m taken aback. Certainly, not everything?
They assure me they do, then make a scandalous proposition. They want me to be theirs. To say I’m shocked is an understatement. How could I handle nine warriors?
I try to stay away, but it’s impossible. Their commanding presence and discipline wears me down inch by inch. Nine powerful Marines will claim me and give me pleasure like I’ve never experienced before.
But can I really bind myself to all nine of them?
I loved seeing the place full of customers. Of course, I was happy for the cafe’s growing popularity. But in the early morning, when it was completely empty and I could arrange the tables and the plants the way I wanted them, that’s when I felt I was in control; that’s when my life had peace and comfort—the calm before the storm, in more ways than one.

I’d always start by baking cinnamon rolls. I loved the way the cafe smelled after a batch of freshly baked cinnamon rolls. And by the time I’d started on the muffins, the first customers would come in—always too early.

“Good morning. That smells fantastic.”

My first customer was a young man, clean-shaven, wearing an impeccably pressed suit to match his impeccable posture. Most likely from the military base. Much of my clientele were from the base.

I tucked the loose strands of hair behind my ears, straightened my apron and offered him a smile. “You’ve got perfect timing,” I said. “I’ve just pulled them out of the oven.”

I tugged on the hem of my apron. Nervous habit. I was running my very own successful cafe and bakery, but with that hunk standing there in front of me, I felt like an awkward schoolgirl.

“Perfect,” he said. And his eyes fell from the chalkboard menu down to meet mine. I literally quivered and had to grab hold of the counter not to fall over. “I’ll have one, please. And an espresso.”

I nodded but didn’t move more than that. I think when a customer orders a cinnamon roll and an espresso, they expect that I’d turn to the espresso machine or plate out a roll. But I just stood there smiling.

He smiled back.

Fortunately, before things could get too awkward, Jenny came rushing in. “Hi, Gwen. I’m sorry I’m late.” She hurried around the counter, already in mid-morning rush form.

I turned from the customer and greeted her. “Good morning, Jenny.”

She let out an exasperated breath and shook her head. “Traffic.”

“No worries.” I glanced at the clock. Only two minutes late. “You’re actually right on time for our first customer of the day.” I turned back to the customer and forgot what I was going to say or what he’d ordered or if he’d even ordered at all.

Jenny took his order again. Unlike me, she immediately went into action to complete it.

“Well, I think I’ll head back in the kitchen,” I said. I smoothed out my apron. “Get started on the brownies.” I looked back at the customer just in case he wanted to stop me. Perhaps he wanted to grab me and say, ‘No, don’t go. Throw off your apron. I’m taking you to Hawaii in my private jet.’ But he simply nodded and smiled.

I stayed in the kitchen for the better part of the morning. Even after ten months on the job, I still melted every time a hot guy would come in—and in San Diego, that happened often. Jenny and Christy worked in the front of the house.

Initially, I’d thought I could get by with only one employee a shift, but with three of us working, we created a more relaxed convivial atmosphere. Jenny’s the no-nonsense one of the crew. Even though I’m technically the boss, she’s the one who keeps us in line. Christy is the ‘wild one’. She keeps things from getting too serious.

Christy popped into the kitchen. “The apple tarts are a big success.”

I looked at her suspiciously out of the corner of my eyes. Christy never led with what was really on her mind. “Good to know,” I said. “I’ll have to prepare more next time.”

“Do you need a hand cleaning up?” she asked.

I’d gotten into the good habit of cleaning while I baked, so when the baking was all finished, I never had much clean-up to do. “No, thanks,” I said. “I’ve got it covered. Why? Is it slow out there?”

“No. It’s actually quite busy.” She smiled mischievously. “But I knew you’d say you didn’t need a hand back here. Which means you can come out front.”

“Is there a problem?”

“I’d say so.” She gave me her patented head tilt with the raised eyebrows. “You’re back here in the kitchen while Self-Help Hunk is sitting alone on the terrace.”

Christy had a name for all our regular customers—the guys, that is—and they invariably ended in ‘hunk’: Double-Cinnamon Latte Hunk; Surfer Hunk, or for the man who would always come in with a book about effective communication, the power of positive thinking or something similar: Self-Help Hunk.

“So what book does he have today?” I asked.

“Well, there’s only one way to find out.” She turned and sauntered out of the kitchen.
The haughty twins and their six brothers knew exactly how to get me. Even though I knew them in college, I didn’t realize men could change so much.
The media had shown me their wild side. Now that they’re my bosses, I’m seeing something different. It was supposed to be nothing more than a job to me, a chance for a scoop.
I planned to play their game, rob them blind, and take the spoils for myself, but this arranged marriage makes me want to help.
The real question is, if they aren’t the men that I thought they were, then who are they?

Books in Series:

Love by Numbers Series by Nicole Casey

Books by Author:

Nicole Casey

1

Alexa

All I was asking for was five more minutes of sleep, but my phone had fallen out of ‘Do Not Disturb’ for the night and was blinging and blonging off the hook. I wasn’t the type of person who had many friends, and my parents were traditionally far more worried with what my brother was doing every second of every day, so I couldn’t figure out for the life of me who was making such a desperate attempt to get a hold of me so early in the morning.

I kept my eyes closed and just waited for it to settle its incessant chirping. Maybe if I just wished and prayed to the gods of ‘five more minutes of sleep’ they would quell whoever was hunting me down in the interest of me getting a few more winks. My phone stopped screeching out of control, so I snuggled down a little further into my bed, and let the feeling of fading consciousness fall over me. I was nearly back on a beach with Chris Hemsworth when a malady of notifications cried out again.

“What?” I screamed out loud as though there was anyone else in the room but me.

I flipped over and grabbed my phone off of the oak nightstand next to me and unlocked it. There were no texts or phone calls at all, just tons and tons of notifications about some major television network that had lost the head anchor of their news channel after allegations of drug abuse. I clicked one of the first notifications and when I saw the face in the thumbnail for the news story, my heart turned to stone.

“No…”

A casually dressed journalist on one of those YouTube news channels was standing in front of an obvious green screen with the frozen image of a pair of men situated to his left. My whole body covered in goosebumps at the pair of familiar faces.

Harley and Huxley Foxx. God spare me any more torture. You took me away from Thor for this?

“Scandal broke today as Foxx Media fired Felicity Quitte for gross misconduct and abuse of company time and funds to support a hidden drug habit. Owner and C.E.O. Richard Foxx took to social media this morning to say that he is gravely disappointed in Quitte’s actions, but is sure that his boys will be able to find a new anchor quickly. By ‘boys’ he is of course referring to his twin sons Huxley and Harley who run the media company in their father’s stead. We tried to reach out to the young entrepreneurs to see if they have any leads, but was told they would not be commenting on that at this time.”

I scoffed at my phone as I turned it to silent. I was a journalist myself, and an old mentor of mine had told me that the best journalists always knew the breaking news. As a result I had set all of my social media sites to notify me with any breaking news in the world, and certainly the sudden opening of one of the highest salaried positions in journalism would fall into that category. Interesting it was, interested I was not. I was one of the few people in the world who knew that it was the Foxx twins themselves that probably drove their former anchor to drugs. They were brash, rude, and belittling. I had the prestige “honor” of going to college with them and sharing several courses, and what little interaction I had with them was too much.

It wasn’t just that they were unpleasant people, but there was a rumor circling the school that the Foxx brothers shared women. Several people had seen them go into a room together with just one woman, and had even seen them both out on dates with the same one woman. They never seemed to have an issue with one another, though. Arrogant and weird sexual traits? They were trouble with a capital ‘T,’ and I could only imagine it’d gotten worse with age. When I left college, I was more than happy to never see the Foxx twins again.

“God protect whichever poor sap ends up with that gig,” I murmured, setting my phone back down on the table.

Realizing I probably wasn’t going to be getting anymore sleep for the day, I flipped off my covers and climbed out of bed. I trudged into my kitchen and tried to decide what to make myself for breakfast. I was still half asleep. I’d only just gotten back from the UK late the night before after running an independent exposé on the recent upset to the royal family in England. I didn’t work for any company in particular. Instead, I’d made a name for myself as an independent journalist and different news companies would pay me for my stories. It wasn’t the best way to make money in the field, and could be inconsistent, but it put food on the table and I got to travel the world at my leisure. Just like in school, I’d staunchly avoided the Foxx’s network, not that they’d be interested even if I hadn’t.
He was awful to me in high school, but now he and his six friends want me?
The moment I saw him, all I could think about was the way he used to torture me.
6 foot 2, sky blue eyes, dark buzzcut hair; that’s what my personal demon looked like. He was my greatest fear, and when I had nightmares, he was the star. 10 years later, and now when he slips into my dreams, he brings six other men along.
They look at me with lust in their eyes and a glint of hope for something more. Seven circles of hell; each of these men wore one like a fresh-pressed suit and tie. They’re interfering with my job and with my life.
I’ve always been resilient, but every woman has her limit. How can I do my job, when all I want to do is them?
Nicole’s Note: Seven Groomsmen from Hell is a sizzling Reverse Harem love story filled with laughter and enough steam to melt the snow. It’s the sixth book in my Reverse Harem Romance series – Love by Numbers, but it can be read as a standalone. Happy reading!
I’d just finished another of ‘Lady Kate’s Killer Pilates’ sessions and was near to collapsing. Dinner and a shower, and I’d be lucky to make it to the bed before passing out.

“Okay,” I said to Anna, who was the demon who convinced me to join her in the sessions, “what’s the big news?”

Anna, a cute, tall and slender woman with black hair in a pixie cut and dark blue eyes, reached into her bag for a moment before whipping around brandishing a black, velvet box. She tipped the lid aside revealing a stunning, pink-gold, diamond ring. By my estimate, it was twenty grand at least, but Kent was a world-renowned football player, so it was probably chump change for him.

“He did it! He proposed!” she yelped.

I let out a little screech. I wasn’t a chipper, cheer-for-everything kind of girl, but Anna had been head over heels for Kent for a while, and I was excited he finally popped the question.

“Congratulations!” I grinned from ear to ear as Anna pulled the ring from the box and slid it on her finger. I raised an eyebrow. “So… who’s the wedding planner? I happen to know someone?”

Anna put the box back in her gym bag and pulled the strap over her shoulder. “Oh, I went with someone from my job who does it on the side.” I frowned and then Anna let out a huge, barking laugh. “I’m joking. Obviously, I want you to plan my wedding, you dope. And none of this ‘family discount’ nonsense either. It’s your business and I support you, so I’m paying full price.”

The notion made me fuzzy inside. “Thanks. When can I get started?”

“I was hoping you’d ask that.” Anna reached back into her bag and when she came back that time, she had a huge, dark blue binder. “Here are a few things to get you started.”

I took the binder, feeling its intense weight threaten to make me drop it. “A few?”

Anna laughed. “Well, I’ve been planning for this day pretty much ever since Kent asked me on our first date.”

I flipped open the lid to the binder and looked at the front page titled, ‘NECESSARIES.’

One Bride (Me)

One Groom (Kent)

One Bridesmaid

Seven Groomsmen

Destination:Puerto Rico

Date: Christmas Day

“Destination wedding, huh?” I said, “And who’s the one bridesmaid?”

Anna smiled at me. “Who else, but you?” she said sweetly. “That is, if you accept? Will you be my maid-of-honor?”

I couldn’t believe it. I knew Anna was without siblings, but I never thought I was who she would want to hold such a prestigious title on her special day. “Of course!” I threw my arms around her in a huge hug, nearly killing us both with the binder. I pulled away and tucked it in my gym bag as we headed for the door of the studio. “So, who are the groomsmen?”

Anna’s mouth curved down into one of strained ‘uh oh.’ “So, here’s the thing. Despite my begging, Kent has insisted on bringing his seven best friends as his groomsmen. Five of them he plays football with, his accountant, and a doctor he knows from his head injury.”

“So, what’s wrong with that?” I asked.

“They’re a bit of a handful. Let me be more specific, they’re a handful when they’re on their best behavior, when they’re at their worst…” Anna’s voice trailed off like she didn’t want to say more for fear of scaring me off.

“They’re men. Throw ‘em some beers and a porn magazine and you have them eating out of the palm of your hand,” I joked.

Anna shook her head. “Not these men.”

“What’s so wrong with them?” I said.

Anna tilted her head in thought for a moment as we walked down the street in the brisk, Texas air. “So, you know all those rumors that Christian Bale freaked out on some extras on set and is secretly a huge jerk in real life?”

“Yeah?” I said.

“And how Ken Jeong seems like a dufus, but he’s actually a doctor and super smart?” she continued, and I nodded. “And how drop dead gorgeous Jason Mamoa is?”

I imagined Aquaman’s bulging muscles and tribal tattoos. “Oh, he really is.”

“That,” Anna said. “That’s what’s wrong with them.”

“Which part?” I asked.

“All of it,” Anna responded.

I shook my head with a chuckle. No man was truly like that. “I’m not worried about it. You just worried about getting married. I’ll handle the men.”

1

Khloe

I could still clearly remember the moment it all went wrong; the day Anna asked me to be her wedding planner. That memory faded from my mind like a bad dream. It was now just a week and a half until the wedding, and in that time I’d learned that these seven men were even worse than she described.
I signed up for one, and guess how many I got? - SIX.
Alright, girl. Now, keep calm. They might be flirty, wild and irresistible, but they are still the Dads of the seven kids I now babysit.
What kids? You ask.
Sorry. Allow me to start over. When I applied for the position for a nanny, I was for real. I mean, I majored in Children Psychology, so I am damn serious.
What I didn’t expect, was that signing on for one, had landed me SIX. That’s SIX drop-dead gorgeous single dads, working with me day in and day out.
The men had formed the Single Dads' Club to ‘shuffle’ their dad duties with their children and had even taken to shuffling their women. But I won’t be their next target. Nope, I don’t think so. I am taking care of the children, not the dads. This can’t happen. No matter how seductive they are.
But with their deep voices and soul-penetrating eyes, staying off Santa’s naughty list just became so much harder. I need them to do filthy things to me. Fill me up, turn me over and do whatever they have in mind to me.
And when their little act of seduction turns into something serious, we start to like one another a little too much. Perfect start to the holidays, huh?
But when that one anonymous letter was sent to my door, I couldn’t take it any longer. I knew that good things don’t come easy. I was right. They have a HUGE secret, and it’s going to ruin Christmas for everyone.
Nicole’s Note: Six Single Dads' Nanny is a sizzling Reverse Harem love story filled with mystery, suspense, enough steam to melt the snow and feel-good holiday sweetness. It’s the fifth book in my Reverse Harem Romance series – Love by Numbers, but it can be read as a standalone. You won’t want to miss the holiday surprise at the end of the story!
I caught a glimpse of the house that was my intended destination and let out a hollow whistle. It was gorgeous. It wasn’t a mansion by any stretch of the imagination, but from the white, picket fence that sat in front of it, the pristine white paint that covered the molding on the outside, and the manicured lawn, it still had a bit of money behind it.

I pulled up to park in front of it and took a deep breath. It was about a quarter til 10 o’clock in the morning, and I was due for a job interview in 10 minutes. I was a recent graduate with my degree in child psychology and early childhood development, and needed to get some experience working with kids under my belt. I posted my credentials and desires to a job-board and was called shortly thereafter by a man named Ethan Coleman, a single father who needed a nanny.

Fall was just settling in and I was excited to finally put my new skills to good use. I flipped down the viser and popped the cover off the mirror to check, for the fifteenth time that morning, that I looked okay. I had my dark-blond hair pulled back into a high-fashion ponytail, which really allowed my shimmering, blue-green eyes to be the crown jewel of my pale face. I had on a cyan colored blouse, and a black pencil-skirt, with a pair of my favorite black pumps. Yes, I was aware of the fact that I was interviewing to watch children, but I was also aware of the certain advantages my 36C bust and wide-waist gave me when it came to asking people for things that I wanted. I was the girl who always got comped drinks at the bar, and discounts on food at festivals. It used to annoy me, but now I know how to whisk it out when needed.

Confident I looked the part, I stepped out of the car and made my way towards the front door. The closer I got to the house, the larger it seemed to get. It was designed to not disturb the cookie-cutter image of the suburban neighborhood it resided in, but it definitely boasted a larger square footage. It was probably two-stories from the outside, and looked like something fresh out of a Homes and Garden magazine.

I rang the doorbell, and gave my outfit one final smoothing down, just in time for the door to open, and it may as well have smacked me in the face for what appeared on the other side. Tall, with tanned skin, dark, wolf-like eyes, medium-length, swept back hair, and even a goatee; a god stood before me.

“You must be Jordan,” he announced, in a gruff, sexy voice. “I’m Ethan.”

He stuck out an arm, and I could see, even under his button up, it was decorated with tattoos. His broad shoulders filled his frame out well and he smiled at me in a way that made me want to strip down in an instant. He was gorgeous. Never before had I considered calling a man ‘Daddy,’ but if it was going to be anyone, it’d be someone like him.

I took his arm and shook it, swallowing deeply as I did so. “Y-yes. Jordan Kent.”

Ethan chuckled. “It’s lovely to meet you. Come on in.”

Entering the house, it was even more clear that it was larger on the inside than it appeared on the outside. I was greeted by a huge foyer, with a gorgeous chandelier hanging from the ceiling, and a marvelous curving staircase leading to the second floor. Despite the home’s upper-class feel, Ethan kicked aside a ball as he entered, and I took immediate note of the photos of two adorable blond-haired boys hanging on all the walls and one of the pair of them and Ethan in front of a Christmas tree. The holidays weren’t too far away, and it was good to see that Ethan was a dad that cared for his kids.

He grabbed the frame and handed it to me. “These are my boys, Davin and David.” Seeing the photo up close, it was clear the boys were twins. They had dark eyes just liked their father, but didn’t bear much resemblance to him otherwise. They must take after their mother. “You’ll learn the difference between them soon enough. Davin is more adventurous than David, but they’re both athletic, sweet boys. I’m sure you’ll love them.” And a doting father to boot; Ethan was the complete package. “Follow me.”

I set the photo back down in its place and followed Ethan as he led me up the staircase. We passed a pair of bedrooms that clearly belonged to the boys, and then turned into an office. It was decadent and clearly a place Ethan spent a lot of his time. It had papers all over the place, though they were well stacked and organized, and had huge, mahogany bookshelves that were filled with thick and thin books, and even more pictures of his kids. Even sweeter, were the bright colored children’s books that were lined in alongside the thick, academic tomes. Ethan’s kids were never far from his reach.
Everyone on the hair and makeup team was damned good at their job. After securing the knot on the black silk beach cover, I turned to a large mirror to make sure I hadn’t messed up any of their hard work.

Cat eyes made my dark eyes smolder and burgundy lipstick both made my lips kissable and edgy. The shimmering highlighter they applied made my golden brown skin glow, giving me an ethereal look, complimented by my big golden curls.

Yeah, I looked good, but I didn’t look like me.

I sighed, feeling tired all of a sudden. All I wanted to do was put on a pair of sweatpants and curl up on my couch. I’d been up all day and, because of the show, I was guaranteed a long night as well.

Glancing at a clock the Ballroom had graciously set up for us backstage, I saw that it was nearly 9 p.m. Time for me to take my place in line.

I lined up behind a pretty redhead and tried to put myself in that headspace I needed before I could confidently step out on the runway and put on a show. After years of modeling, getting into the blank place in my mind was automatic and almost felt comforting.

I felt a little less reticent given that I was about to walk in a charity show. Each year, the Las Vegas Venetian Resort Ballroom was transformed into a glamorous extravaganza. The richest of the rich from all over the world turned up, ready to show off just how much money they had. Then they went home, patting themselves on the back for helping out the less fortunate.

The soothing classical music faded out and a few people spoke on stage. It was too muffled for me to understand, but they didn’t talk long and returned backstage. The music changed to something a bit more upbeat and the first woman stepped onto the runway.

It wasn’t long before it was my turn. Before I stepped out from the concealment of the curtain, I took a deep breath. Then I raised my chin, put on coy expression that I was known for, and stepped out onto the stage.

I stomped down the runway, my hips swaying with each step. The black silk dress I wore picked up the wind and flared around my knees, creating the perfect amount of movement.

I was about halfway down the long runway when I saw him, the man who would end up changing my life forever.

He was in the front row, wearing a black tux and sipping a glass of wine. When he lowered his glass, I could see his strong, square jaw with a hint of dark stubble coming through his tanned skin. His eyes were the most wonderful shade of amber, framed by dark eyebrows. The man had thick black hair and for just a moment, I wondered what it would be like to run my fingers through it.

We locked eyes and, as clichéd as it sounds, my breath caught. His gaze was intense and shot through me like a bullet.

My eyes still on him, my hands went to the knot on the side of my silk dress and I pull the string. The two halves of the dress fell open, revealing the black bikini I had on underneath.

His eyes swept down my body and, just as his eyes locked again with mine, I was too far down the runway to see him any longer.

When I reached the end of the runway, I slid the thin straps of the dress down over my shoulders and let the audience get a full look at the designer bikini that cost more than my mortgage. I did a few quick poses, showing off the swimsuit, and took off back down the catwalk.

I saw that the man was still watching me. The closer I got to him, the harder it was for me to concentrate. Eventually, I just had to rip my gaze from him and keep walking.

By the time I returned backstage, I was breathing hard.

Who was that man? And how had he managed to make me feel so disarmed in just a few seconds?

I shook my head. It didn’t matter because I was never going to see him again anyway. He was just a face in the crowd, and I was sure that’s all he would remain.

I walked the runway two more times, experiencing that intense feeling yet again. By the time it was time for all the models to walk the runway together, I was shaking, forcing myself to keep my head forward.

The show ended and I dashed off to the dressing room, chatting with a few of the other women about the show. Many of them were younger than me and were still so excited about the job. Sitting at the vanity as I took off my makeup, I dwelled on the fact that modeling hadn’t given me as much joy as it once did.
I took a job after seeing an ad online for a vet on a ranch. I didn’t know that it’s not only my career on the lone but my heart in the balance on a ranch with FOUR lonely men.
Jada
I moved to Montana to start a new life. As a vet and an animal lover, I’m sick of looking after rich men’s cats and dogs.
I want to really help them. I want to save their lives. What I didn’t expect, was meeting four rugged ranchers.
They are all different in their unique way. Dominant. Rock-hard. Charming. Intelligent. And there is even my high school sweetheart who left me heartbroken years ago.
Each one is more gorgeous than the last. Four men want me all at once. It’s overwhelming, yet I can’t stop myself.
I need all eight hands on my body, touching me, taking me. One crazy night leads to another, and one day I wake up to a big surprise…
-- I am about to be a mother.
The person next to me on the plane side-eyed me more than once, no doubt wishing my leg would cramp and be unable to bounce any longer.

I wanted to stop, wished I could stop, but my nerves got the best of me. My life was changing at breakneck speed and it was a lot to process. Of course, all the change was my own doing, but that didn’t make it any easier to deal with.

Being a bad flier didn’t help the situation either. I tried to watch Golden Girls, a show my mom and I always watched together when I was a kid, but my eyes kept wandering over to the window to my right. I should have just closed the shade, but I felt weirdly calmer being able to see the ground. It was less like I was venturing into the unknown even though it was exactly what I was doing.

I thought back on my old job at the animal clinic in Las Vegas. Because of the location, I mostly treated rich folks’ pets. The money was good, but the boredom was unbearable. There were only so many times that I could treat broken bones and help reassure pet-owners hairballs were normal before I lost my mind.

When I went to school, I’d envisioned myself truly helping animals, trying to save their lives after they were hit by cars or were sick. I wanted to make a difference in not only animals’ lives, but also in the lives of their owners. I wanted to be able to bring comfort to people during one of their best or worst days.

But after graduating from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, it made sense to stay in the city. I was sure I’d easily find a fulfilling job in the city. After all, Vegas was home to the Circus Circus Hotel & Casino, SeaQuest, and the white tigers at the Mirage. I thought I’d surely find a job with one of them.

Except I hadn’t. After each interview, I was told they were looking for someone more experienced, someone with different credentials, or that they’d already hired someone. During some interviews, I saw the surprise on the interviewer’s face when a woman named Jada Hartville turned out to be a Black woman. Well, mixed, to be exact. I grew up with an African-American mother and a Canadian white-creole father. To be honest, it was hard not to wonder if my race played a part in their decision too, even subconsciously.

So I eventually had to settle, settle for a job I hated and coworkers I disliked in a city I loathed. I hated how the dry heat made my skin and natural curly hair dry out and I hated how my hair frizzed during monsoon season.

I hated having to wear tank tops and shorts or skirts every day to stay as cool as possible and I hated the way creepy men then stared at me because of it. I hated the cockroaches everywhere in Las Vegas and the roof rats that liked to chew through your wires. Look, I spent my childhood in the Louisiana bayous and New Orleans before my family moved to Las Vegas when I was a teenager. Louisiana was filled with bloodthirsty mosquitoes and rats that could squeeze under the crack under your door and humidity that made my corkscrew curls even curlier. But I was used to them. They were my pests, and completely normal to me. In my years living in Las Vegas, I’d never grown used to the pests. I hadn’t allowed myself to.

Las Vegas never felt like home and I desperately wanted to find one.

Finally, it all just became too much. I got home from work one night and scoured the country for veterinary jobs. I’d looked for jobs back home in Louisiana, wondering if the familiarity of it would be helpful to my mood. I still had some family there, so I’d at least know someone when I got there. But it hadn’t worked out that way. Just three weeks after my job search began, I was on my way to Montana where I would be the veterinarian for a ranch on the outskirts of Seeley Lake.

My mind drifted back to the Skype interview I had with the ranch’s owner. With a name like Hank Brekker and the fact that he was the CEO of a ranch, I’d expected him to be a lot older, in his fifties at least.

But instead, Hank was in his late twenties or early thirties. He was an incredibly handsome guy with emerald green eyes, sandy blonde hair, and one of those adorable chin dimples. A small white scar was visible on his left temple. He looked like a guy who worked outside a lot with his tanned skin, broad shoulders, and muscular arms. Despite the fact that he was sitting down during our interview, I imagined he was tall and couldn’t help but wonder if his thighs were just as muscular as his arms.

She looked back at me with a cheery smile while we waited and I did my best to return it. I just hoped she didn’t notice how fake my smile was.

I so did not want to be there, but none of that was Greer’s fault. She was getting married. She had every right to be happy. As one of her best friends, I was supposed to be happy too, happy for her that she met such a great guy she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.

And I was happy. Mostly, anyway.

No, the fact that I struggled to be in a good mood was my own issue. Like my best friend Sascha said, I needed to just put my own shit on hold for the next week and a half and celebrate Greer and John.

Besides, Sascha had her own stuff going on and she’d managed to temporarily compartmentalize with ease. Outwardly, at least. I knew she was hurting, but she could put on a brave face for the people she loved. Still, Sascha wasn’t a bridesmaid and didn’t have to be here for the entire week and a half either.

“You know she’d do the same for you if the roles were reversed,” Sascha told me earlier in the day when I called her. I could just picture her sitting there with that apprehensive expression on her face, brows scrunched and mouth set in a line. She always got this when she was worried about something and I’d born witness to it more times than I could count. Thankfully, it wasn’t usually directed at me.

Sascha had known me forever and always knew exactly what to say to me. Usually her words didn’t exactly make me feel better, but they were often what I needed to hear.

“That’s very true,” I replied, “but a Halloween wedding? Why on earth do Greer and John want to have a Halloween wedding?”

“You got me there, Erin,” Sascha said. “I know it’s Greer’s favorite holiday, but it does seem a bit silly.”

It had been Sascha’s chuckles from my complaining that finally put me at ease. Yes, I was hurting, but I hadn’t lost my ability to make my best friend laugh. That meant I’d be okay. Eventually.

It was a calming thought.

Greer looked so happy when she began walking back towards me. Actually, she was radiant, her smile so wide, her eyes bright and full of hope. I felt a little guilty for my dark thoughts, but a therapist once said, “We feel what we feel,” and that seemed right. I couldn’t help how I felt, but I didn’t have to be a drag on Greer. No way was I going to spoil her time.

“We’re all checking in!” she said. Her dark blue eyes were filled with such happiness that I was suddenly glad I’d sucked up my sour mood and forced myself to come. Greer really did deserve it.

Greer and I first met in college in one of our classes during Freshman year. She sat down next to me and immediately began chatting like we were old friends. I remember sitting there in that 8 a.m. class, nursing a large coffee, a little hungover from the night before, and feeling sideswiped by this woman who sat down next to me.

Pixie was my first thought of her, and it wasn’t just because she had her dark hair styled in an adorable pixie cut. No, it was her entire demeanor. Sure she fitted the description of a pixie--a small build, pale skin, an undeniable effervescence about her--but it was so much more than that. It was her personality, her bubbly demeanor. I was a little jaded, cynical, but it didn’t take long for Greer to break through my walls and befriend me. Eight years later, we’re still great friends and I value that relationship, Greer’s presence in my life.

“All checked in!” Greer said. She handed me my keycard and I slipped it in my pocket.

My smile began as fake, but quickly became real at witnessing Greer’s joy. “Awesome,” I replied, “thank you!”

“Of course,” she said, slinging her arm around me as we walked out to the car to grab our things.

Our rooms were on different floors, so before we went our separate ways, Greer wrapped me in a hug, squeezing me tight. “I really appreciate this, Erin,” she said. “So much.”

I knew Greer meant every word of it too. No one was more sincere than Greer.

We reached her floor and she grabbed her things and get off. “Don’t forget about tonight!” she said merrily.

“I won’t!” I replied before the elevator doors closed behind Greer, though I was already dreading it.

It was easy to slip back into my dour mood once I was out of Greer’s presence. My resolve to be there for her was still strong, but that didn’t really help my moodiness while I was alone.
