From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aurora Rose Reynolds comes the sizzling final installment to the humorous and heart-filled How to Catch an Alpha series.
Anna McAlister needs a new life. But that doesn’t mean she needs a new man. After leaving her fiancé and Chicago behind, she promises herself no dating until she finds what she’s looking for. But meeting one seriously hot and determined detective has her questioning herself.
Calvin Miller is that detective, and he’s been burned by women in the past. It’s easy for him to sleep alone and focus on his work, but the moment he lays eyes on Anna, he starts imagining sexy nights with her wrapped in his sheets. Maybe it’s time to get back out there.
But just as the attraction between them begins to sizzle, Anna’s past shows up to create trouble. And to make matters worse, a string of murders forces Calvin to juggle his new relationship and his career. His worst fear? That the two are somehow connected.
Can they find love together, or will her past and his duty sink their hopes?

FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE EVERYTHING.

DIDN’T YOUR MAMA TEACH YOU THAT?

ANNA

“Are you happy?” my friend Lucy asks, and I instinctively tighten my fingers around my cell phone as I put my bare feet up on the wooden rail in front of me. I’ve lived most of my life in the city, surrounded by skyscrapers and the constant sound of chatter and traffic, with air clogged with the scents of food and exhaust. Now, sitting on the back deck of my studio apartment in a small coastal town in South Carolina, with the ocean mere feet away, the sun warming my skin, and a slight breeze playing in my hair, I wonder how I survived in Chicago for so long.

“I’m getting there,” I answer, smiling as I watch a young family laughing and playing in the surf nearby.

“Even living in a small studio apartment and working at a bakery?” She sounds skeptical, and I remind myself she just doesn’t understand. Like everyone else back in Chicago, she doesn’t get why I’d choose to go from making over $60,000 a year, living in a beautiful penthouse apartment, planning a wedding to a good man—who also happens to be gorgeous—to moving to a town where I know almost no one. Where I’m renting an apartment the size of my old bathroom and working a job that pays in a month what I used to make in a week.

“Even living in an apartment and working at the bakery,” I reply, keeping my tone neutral before adding quietly, “I do miss you, though.” It’s not a lie: Lucy has been in my life since I can remember. Our parents were friends, so we practically grew up together.

“I still don’t get it,” she says with a sigh, and my heart sinks. I keep hoping she will, but as the months pass, it’s becoming more and more clear that she won’t. None of my friends or family do. They don’t understand that I didn’t just wake up one day and decide to give everything up. Every day for years, I woke up and looked at myself in the mirror, disliking the materialistic, shallow woman I was becoming. Until one day I decided to do something about it.

“I should let you go. I’m sure you have stuff to do, and I promised Edie that I’d go with her to bingo.”

“Bingo? You’re playing bingo?” She laughs.

I can’t help the smile that tips up my lips. “Yeah, it’s actually kind of fun.”

“If you say so,” she says, sounding distracted, and then a moment later, a distinctive male voice in the background asks her something, and I know it’s Lance, my ex-fiancé, who’s a partner at her firm. “Sorry, I gotta go, Anna.”

“No problem,” I tell her, feeling nauseous. “Bye.” I hang up before she has a chance to reply and then sit forward, dropping my head into my hands as I think back to the look on Lance’s face when I gave him back his ring and told him that we were over. He didn’t say a word and walked away, looking devastated. The hardest part about leaving Chicago wasn’t the lifestyle I was giving up; it was losing him. Even though I wasn’t in love with him, he was my friend. For the five years we were in a relationship, he was a constant in my life, someone I depended on for support, and he was one of the few people who understood the dysfunctional relationship I had with my parents and encouraged me to take a step back from them when they hurt me with their carelessness.

Not wanting to spend the day dwelling on something that would leave me depressed, I pull in a deep breath, expecting to inhale the fresh sea air, but my nose wrinkles when the distinct scent of pot hits me. I open my eyes, get up from my lounger, and stop midway across the deck when a big puff of smoke floats up from the porch below. I walk quietly to the edge and look over the rail, wondering if someone from the beach has decided to hide out and get high. But then I shake my head when I see Dixie and Pearl, my landlady Edie’s best friends, who are in their seventies, standing at her back door and sharing what looks like a joint: an object that seems out of place, given their grandmotherly appearance. Both women are dressed like they’re about to go golfing, in their pastel polo shirts and khaki capris, all capped by white hair that’s styled, like always, in an array of curls.

“Isn’t weed illegal?”

Both women jump, and Dixie, who’s holding the joint, tosses it away, yelling “Oh shit!” while Pearl screams, searching until she finds me on the deck above.

“Anna!” Pearl says, glaring. “You scared the dickens out of me.”
From New York Times bestselling author Aurora Rose Reynolds comes the second book in the steamy, witty, and hilarious How to Catch an Alpha series.
Chrissie doesn’t have time for guys, hot or otherwise; most days, she barely has time to sleep. With a thriving bakery that demands her attention and plenty of proof that relationships aren’t worth the trouble, she’s content to go it alone. Too bad she’s unwittingly baited Mr. Tall, Dark, and Way Too Gorgeous—and he’s just waiting for a chance to bite.
Gaston is used to getting what he wants, but he also knows nothing good ever comes easy. From the moment he meets Chrissie, he realizes that this woman who makes him laugh, smells like cupcakes, and looks like a tasty snack is going to be his greatest challenge. And if he’s lucky, she’ll be his biggest reward.
But someone else wants to catch Gaston at all costs—even if it means endangering the lives of the people he loves. Somehow Gaston must thwart danger and convince Chrissie that he’s the perfect catch.

LEAVE HIM WANTING MORE

CHRISSIE

“I’m so happy for you, Leah,” I tell my best friend while accepting two shot glasses from the waitress.

“I still can’t believe I’m actually getting married, Chrissie.” She shakes her head, making her dark hair appear to shimmer in the flashing lights, and her blue eyes brighten with happiness as she holds out her hand to look at the large diamond on her ring finger.

She might not be able to believe that she’s getting married, but I can. I knew the moment I saw Tyler and her together for the first time that there was something special between them. I couldn’t be happier for her, especially after witnessing firsthand some of her previous disastrous relationships.

“Here’s to your happily ever after.” I raise my shot glass toward her.

She holds up hers in return and smiles. “And here’s to you finding yours.”

I smile, too, even though I doubt love is in the cards for me. I could blame my lack of enthusiasm for finding love on men in general being jerks—which, more often than not, they are—but I’m mostly to blame. I work all the time and rarely have time to myself; plus, I don’t put a lot of effort into meeting men. Whenever I have a free moment, I use that time wisely to sleep instead of scanning dating sites and going out. Thinking about it now, I don’t remember the last time I went out on a real date. Unless you consider meeting up with someone for a quick coffee in the middle of the day a date.

“Are you two going to sit in this corner all night and chat, or are you actually going to join the bachelorette party?” our friend Ivy asks, glancing between Leah and me.

“Sorry, we were having a moment.” Leah laughs, and I giggle.

Ivy rolls her eyes at the two of us, then holds out her hand. “Have your moment later. Let’s go dance.” As soon as Leah places her hand in Ivy’s, she drags her up off the couch and pulls her out onto the dance floor.

Even in the large crowd of dancing people, I have no problem spotting all the girls we came here with tonight. Just like me, they’re wearing flashing penis necklaces and penis earrings. We look ridiculous, but as Leah’s maid of honor, I wanted to give her the full bride-to-be experience, including lots of penises and a sash with bold lettering that says SAME PENIS FOREVER. Maybe the sash was overkill, but whatever; it made her soon-to-be-husband grin and her crack up when I put it on her.

While everyone’s on the dance floor, I get up from the couch and look for the sign for the restroom, which is located in the rear of the club. I wobble in that direction, a little unsteady on my feet from the alcohol I’ve consumed. Thank goodness Tyler agreed to be our designated driver and pick us up whenever we’re ready to leave.

After standing in line for at least twenty minutes, I sigh. Every woman in the place seems to be waiting to go to the restroom, and the longer I stand there, the more urgent my need becomes. I spot the men’s restroom a little farther down the hall, and of course there’s no line. I watch the door closely and notice that every guy who goes in seems to come out within a few minutes.

Screw it, I tell myself and head down the hall. When the last guy I saw go in exits, I step inside and rush across the empty room to one of the stalls. I pee quickly while listening for the sound of the door opening and make sure the coast is clear before leaving the stall to wash my hands.

Just as I’m reaching for a paper towel, the door opens. I turn to apologize for invading the men’s room, but the words get stuck on my tongue because the most attractive man I’ve ever seen enters. I blink, wondering if he’s a figment of my imagination or if I’m dreaming, because there is no way he’s real. He’s so tall his head is just a few inches from the top of the doorway, and his shoulders are so broad they seem to fill the space.

He frowns at me, causing his dark brows to knit together over his green eyes. Then he looks around as if to make sure he’s not in the women’s room, giving me a side view of his sharply angled jaw.

“You’re not in the wrong place. I am,” I assure him, and his gaze returns to me. “The line for the ladies’ room was long, so I snuck in here when it was empty.”

“Are you finished, or do you need me to guard the door?” he asks, seeming genuine, which is surprising, coming from a guy who looks like he does.
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aurora Rose Reynolds comes the first novel in the fun, sexy, and thrilling How to Catch an Alpha series.
Leah Emerson isn’t looking for a man—she’s looking for the right man. But her mother’s idea of a great catch leaves her cold, and she’s pretty sure her cocky, arrogant, and way too good-looking new neighbor isn’t the one either. If only her wayward cat would stop jumping through his window, she could get on with her life.
Tyler Duncan moved into town for a new job, not to fall in love. But he always goes after the things he wants in life with steadfast determination…and he wants Leah Emerson. He wants her smiles, he wants her touch, and he definitely wants her in bed.
Unfortunately, someone else wants Leah—in the worst way. Now Tyler’s on a mission to protect the woman he’s falling in love with while proving he’s worth falling for, and Leah must decide whether Tyler is a catch worth catching…

ADOPT THE UNADOPTABLE CAT

LEAH

I pick up my cat from his perch on the window ledge before I open the front door to check my mailbox. Since I’m not dressed yet, I stay inside and reach one hand out while I hold Mouse’s small wiggling body firmly against me with the other. I flip the lid and start to reach into the box but stop and wrap my arms around him when he squirms to get down.

“No way, sir. Not today.” My hold on him tightens, but it’s not enough. He slips from my grasp, and I watch in slow motion as he lands on all four paws, takes off across my porch, and then heads down the three steps into the yard. “Mouse!”

He stops to look at me over his furry gray shoulder, like he’s asking, What?

“Come on, baby. Come here.” I start toward him slowly, hoping that if I’m slow I can get close enough to grab him. He tips his head to the side, blinking at me, before he takes off again toward the house next door. “Mouse, get your furry butt back here!” I yell, rushing across the cool grass in my bare feet and wearing nothing but a tank top and plain panties. I glimpse his tail as he runs to the back of the house next door, and I pick up speed, only to stop suddenly once I turn the corner and spot him sitting on the ledge of an open window, licking his paw.

“Please don’t do this,” I beg him, taking careful steps in his direction. “Please, just stop.” I hold up my hands like I’m dealing with a terrorist set on detonating a bomb instead of my stubborn cat. I take another slow, calculated step and then cry “No!” when he turns and hops through the window, disappearing inside.

“This cannot be happening.” I run a hand through my knotted bed head hair and look around for something to use to get my ass up and through the window. If my old neighbors, Margret and Ethan, still lived here, I would’ve just knocked on their door and had them get Mouse for me, but they moved six months ago. Since then, the house has been empty.

A large bright-orange bucket near the back deck catches my eye, so I dump out the dirty water that’s settled in the bottom, then carry it to the window. After setting it upside down, I place one foot on it, testing its stability, before doing the same with my other foot and lifting the window up completely. When I poke my head in, I look around the dimly lit empty room and narrow my eyes on Mouse, who’s sitting casually by an open door like he’s been waiting for me.

“Get a cat. They aren’t much work, and you need company.” Why the hell did I listen to my mother . . . again? I grumble to myself as I pull myself through the window, grouching and wincing as the old dry wood and paint scrape my belly, my thighs, and my shins. I cry out, more from shock than from pain, as I land on the floor with a loud thud.

“Just so you know, I’m totally rethinking our relationship,” I say, turning my head toward Mouse. I freeze when my eyes catch the glint of a gun aimed in my direction.

“What the fuck?” is growled as the overhead light is flipped on, and I scream like a chick in a horror movie who’s being chased through the woods by an ax murderer. “Jesus, I’m not gonna fucking shoot you,” a deep voice says, and I peek out from between my fingers, which are covering my face. I freeze again for a completely different reason once I see the guy standing over me.

Holy moly.

I blink, trying to clear my vision to make sure I’m not imagining him. Tan skin, dark, almost-black hair that curls around his ears and neck, a strong jaw, full lips. Add to that broad shoulders and six-pack abs that are visible because he’s totally shirtless and totally right in front of me, wearing nothing but a pair of gray sweats.

“What the fuck are you doing breaking into my house?” he barks, and I pull my eyes away from his and look around for the reason I broke into his house. “Hello . . . ?” he calls when I don’t respond, sounding annoyed.

“Umm.” I frown when I don’t spot the reason for me being in this stupid mess.

Feeling heat hit my legs and chest, I look up, and my eyes flare when I notice his gaze on me . . . all of me. I quickly pull down my tank top as far as it’ll go, then hold my hand to my chest to cover my exposed cleavage.
