Remington Vaughn has fought hard to conquer his demons and come out on top. When he’s given a chance to rebuild his Hollywood career, he doesn’t expect to find a new addiction...Ainsley.

Warning: It’s not just the hero who’s over-the-top in this one; the heroine is too—literally! But that just means more yumminess for you because she’s an aerial silks performer, and her flexibility meant we could get super creative. Be prepared for this Hollywood with Alexa Riley story to leave you wanting more.

I lift my head from my computer and glance at my watch. “Cannon and I aren’t scheduled to film until tonight.”

Sammy shrugs. “I’m just the gofer today,” he says before disappearing into the hall.

Quickly, I hit save so that I don’t lose the changes I’m making to the choreography and close the lid. On my way out, I grab a stack of resumes to go over with the director. We still haven’t cast a stunt double for one of the female crew members. We’re getting down to the wire and need to pick someone, but I’m not truly happy with anyone in the pool of candidates.

It’s worrying me because I need this job to go perfectly. This movie is my chance to get my career back on track after a hiatus of several years. I was a child performer and late in my teen years, I let the wrong people influence me and turned to drugs and alcohol as a means of dealing with the pressure and intense schedules. Not that it’s an excuse, but I was also dealing with some very heavy personal issues.

When I was twenty-one, I went to set high and got injured. I was incredibly lucky that it was only minor; however, the incident earned me a black eye in the film industry, and I hit rock bottom.

My best friend drove me to a rehab facility and walked me inside. I did my stint there and then laid low for a few years, getting my shit together. I’ve been clean ever since and even do outreach for kids in the Hollywood scene who need someone to steer them in the right direction.

A year ago, I felt ready to get back to what I loved, but clawing my way back in has been a struggle. I knew I needed the right agent to help me, and TAG Management is the best in the industry. The owner, Tyson Grant, reps my friends, Austin and Theo Hayes, and they were happy to make the introduction.

Tyson was a hard sell, and it took me six months to crack him. Eventually, he agreed to take me on as a client, and he’s worked his ass off to help me attain my goals. When he came to me with the offer to be the Stunt Coordinator and lead stunt man in a movie about a Las Vegas casino heist, I jumped at the chance.

I’d known Jackie Halliday, the director, from my early days and was excited to work with her. She’s trusted me completely with my job, and it’s another reason why I’m determined to be the best.

I walk on set and head straight for the Director’s chair where Jackie is deep in discussion with her Assistant Director. The set dresser is messing with props and I frown, wondering why this studio is already being prepped.

For the most part, we’re filming at The Lennox Hotel and Casino, but for scenes that have to do with the vault and security areas surrounding it, we’re using an offsite production studio. This set is designed for those sensitive areas, and they are some of the most stunt-heavy scenes in the movie.

“Hey,” I greet Jackie as I come to a stop beside her chair. “Cannon won’t be here for another hour, and then we have to rehearse the changes I’ve made to the choreography.”

“Yeah, last minute change to the schedule,” she says as she turns in her seat to look up at me. “We’re going to run through Beatrice’s laser stunt.”

Now I’m even more confused because the papers in my hand are the candidates for Beatrice’s stunt woman. I hold out the stack of CV’s towards her. “These are the best of the last group of resumes sent by the agency. Did you hire someone?” I don’t say my next thought out loud but it hangs between us, and she knows it. Without consulting me?

“No—"Jackie shakes her head—“well, yes, sort of.” She takes the pile and shoves it at her assistant. “We’ve both been disappointed with the casting call for the stunt woman for Beatrice”—she grins at me—“but I found the perfect one.”

I quirk my brow and fold my arms over my chest. While I prefer to have the last say over the casting in my department, especially since my work involves so much risk and requires a lot of trust, I know Jackie wouldn’t go around me on purpose. So, this woman is obviously special. Still, I need to give her my stamp of approval. “What’s her background and what work has she done?”

Jackie stands and waves at me to follow her, walking a short distance away from the set so our conversation is private. “She’s a trained acrobat, and her specialty is aerial work, mostly with silks. I saw her at Cirque de Rêve a couple of months ago, but we weren’t sure if we could get her out of the last year of her five-year contract.”
For the past decade, he’s kept his private life—which only consisted of me—separate from the professional. But after I graduated from college last month, it was as though a switch had been flipped and he couldn’t wait to immerse me in the business he’d been running on his own after my mom died.

Some of my favorite childhood memories were of running around the studio backlot while my mom soothed ruffled feathers on set. She had been the delicate touch that had softened my dad’s rough edges. The perfect partner to help him run the studio. A terrific wife. And the absolute best mom.

With her gone, my dad hired a nanny to take care of me after school. Then another to help on the nights when he had to work late. There was also a driver to take me to and from the private, all-girls school he enrolled me in from seventh grade through high school. And a chef to make sure I had a well-balanced diet. He had to hire an entire team to take care of all of the things my mom used to do for me on a daily basis. She had been just that awesome.

But even with all those people taking care of the day-to-day stuff, I wasn’t a poor little rich girl with a parent who didn’t care. My dad always made time for his little princess. He went to all of my piano recitals, started the standing ovation when I gave the valedictorian speech at high school graduation, and took me on lavish trips during spring breaks. He also hooked me up with coveted internships in New York the past few summers.

The only thing he didn’t do was let me near anything connected to Grier Studios. He kept me out of the limelight. No movie premiers. No stories in the gossip rags. As far as he was concerned, I was untouchable. I always figured it was his way of protecting me because he’d never recovered from the loss of my mom.

But now I am all grown up, with a bachelors degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Even with with a double major in business administration and film studies, I managed to graduate a semester early. I’ve also racked up job offers from all across the country over the past two months, including from a couple of his biggest competitors. My dad won’t hear of me accepting any of them. The thought of me moving away is the kick in the butt my dad needed to lift the ban from me being connected to the family business. He’s quickly warmed to the idea of me working alongside him, and his enthusiasm is contagious.

I drop down onto the leather couch against the wall across from his desk and kick off my heels. He’d taken me on a tour of the entire studio property, which seemed at least twice as big as I remembered. We’d used a cart to drive between buildings on the backlot, but my feet are still killing me. “It’s incredible how big the studio has gotten. You’ve accomplished a lot, Dad.”

“I’m sure what I’ve done will pale in comparison to what you’ll achieve after you take over.” He sits down in the leather club chair facing me. “You got your drive from me, your heart from your mom, and your brains from both of us. I have no doubt you’ll make Grier Studios the biggest studio in the United States.”

“Only because you’ve clawed your way into the top five already. You’ve set me up for success.” My dad had three of the biggest movie releases in the last five years. He’d earned two Best Picture awards. People were already talking about his next blockbuster release coming out this summer. Grier Studios was a big enough name in the game now that A-list actors were knocking on his door to get cast in the leading role for his projects. “And it’ll be a long time before you hand those reins over. By then, you will probably have gotten us there already.”

“With both of us putting a hundred and ten percent into the studio at the same time?” He kicks back in his chair and grins. “I see great things in the near future for Grier Studios.”

I return his smile, but I am more than a little worried by the whole one-hundred-and-ten-percent thing. I don’t have a problem with working hard, but I want more in my life than just business. I want to be successful, but I also want to find someone to love. To build a meaningful relationship with. To become a loving wife and mother, finding the perfect balance like my mom had done.

I’m not sure my dad is ready to hear that since he hasn’t just kept me out of the media’s eyes all these years—he’s also made sure I was so busy that I never had time to date. I’ve lived a very sheltered life, even in college, and now I am ready to spread my wings in more than just my work life. I figure now is as good a time as any to broach the topic of my dating life but am interrupted by a soft rapping sound at the door.
Shelby Walsh is struggling to make ends meet. She spends her days doing singing telegrams for extra cash, but she never expected to be sent out to perform for the world’s most famous composer. And definitely not in a skimpy Greek goddess outfit. How is she supposed to keep it together when every part of her is screaming for him to take her?

Theo Hayes is a recluse. He just wants to be left alone to work on his next big movie score. He’s even grumpier than usual because he’s in a bit of a rut. But when his brother sends him a singing telegram for inspiration, he finds his muse and plans to never let her go. Keeping her for his very own is the only option.

Warning: We’ve teamed up with Fiona Davenport to give you an epic symphony for your lady business. What’s better than two authors working you over? How about four? If you want insta-love with all the safety and security of a happily ever after, then jump in bed with us. There’s room for more!
The instruments in my studio are laughing at me, and the deadline clock sitting on the shelf above my equipment is silently judging me.

“Fuck!” I bark as I push my chair back and stand up, running my hands through my unruly dark hair. A haircut is on my “to-do” list for when I finish the score for the newest movie projected to blow up the box office. That list just keeps getting longer and longer because for the first time ever, I am truly in danger of not meeting a deadline. I’m stuck and have no clue why.

Between movies, television, and theater, I’ve written almost sixty compositions in the last twenty years. I was a child prodigy and wrote my first movie score at fifteen. I’ve won two Academy Awards, three Emmy Awards, one Golden Globe, six Tony Awards and eighteen fucking Grammy Awards. Yet here I am…unable to pluck out even one decent melody. I’ve never had a mental block like this, and I have no fucking clue what to do about it. This could be the end of the line for me. I think it’s passion I’m lacking. I have no idea how to make myself passionate about something. There just isn’t anything there when I try to reach it.

My cell phone vibrates on the table, the screen lighting up with a picture of my little brother making a goofy face and the name “Hot Shot Movie Star.” I roll my eyes but a smile tugs at my lips. Clearly, Austin messed with my phone again the last time he was here. I can only imagine what other crazy nicknames he gave some of my contacts.

Austin is incredibly intelligent, but his real talent lies in his charisma and sense of humor. It landed him his first role as the comedic sidekick in a television show at the age of seven. Since then, he’s been typecast in those roles, but it’s never bothered him. He’s no slouch in the looks department, and I imagine the millions he makes per movie and the multiple awards for Best Supporting Actor don’t hurt. Besides that, he thinks playing the sexy heartthrob is boring, and it saves him from having to do romantic storylines with sex scenes that could come back to bite him in the ass later on. That’s the other thing about Austin…he’s a hopeless romantic and believes in “the one.” I think he’s crazy. I need a relationship in my life like I need a hole in my head. But I keep that opinion to myself. While I might be a cynical grump, as he refers to me, I would never want Austin to change from who he is.

He’s probably the only reason I ever laugh. Or leave the house. I freely admit to being a workaholic. I get lost in my music and once I hear it in my head, I can’t rest until it’s down on paper. Plus, I hate crowds, which is why I live an hour from the city on a couple of acres. I enjoy being alone.

I swipe the screen to answer and he appears with a boyish grin. “How goes the mental block?” he asks by way of greeting.

“Thanks for the reminder, asshole,” I sigh into the phone. “And hello to you, too.”

Austin laughs, but then his face sobers a little. “Seriously, though, how are you doing? Any luck with the new project?”

I shake my head and groan as I walk out of my studio and toward my house. I converted an old, unattached garage into my workspace when I bought the land because it was situated only fifty or so feet from the house.

The afternoon sun beats down on my shoulders and I have to squint to see Austin on the screen. “I can’t seem to find any inspiration,” I admit with a shake of my head. For the first time in my life I feel lost. Or like maybe something is missing. What that is, I have no fucking idea or I’d go and get it.

“And getting out of your house and maybe going on a date…? Have you considered that option?” Austin’s tone is humorous, but I know he’s only half-joking.

“No, Mother,” I answer, sarcasm dripping from the words. “I don’t have time for social crap. People annoy me. And are a distraction. And I have work to do.” I reach my back door and type in the code before stepping into my kitchen. Austin snorts a response to my comment, but I ignore him as I set the phone on the counter and grab a water from the fridge. All that is true. It’s why I live all the way out here.

Austin Hayes has been a household name since he hit it big as a child actor. His refusal to so much as kiss a woman on screen hasn't stopped him from having a successful career in Hollywood. But when Nicole wants him as her co-star, he throws all the rules out the window because this starlet is meant to be his.
Eventually, people are going to get tired of casting you in the side-kick role.” Tyson Grant, my agent, runs a hand through his curly blond hair then takes swig from the beer in his other one.

I sit back in my chair, my arms crossed over my chest, glaring. I’m not budging on this topic and he knows it, so why is he bringing it up, yet again?

“We’ve been friends since we were kids and you know I respect your position”—he smiles wryly—”It’s not like I’m really qualified to lecture you since I have no love life to speak of.”

I snort, earning myself a scowl. I’ve never even seen Ty go on a date in all the years I’ve known him. I’m almost positive he’s still a virgin. I can’t judge him on that though since I’m one myself. However, at least I made an attempt to find “the one.” Granted, none of my dates had gone past a conversation. The night always ended before we even got to dessert. Although, I can’t even remember the last one I went on. I’ve been burned by all the money-grubbing fakes out there.

“But,” Ty continues, “it’s my job to protect your career so I’m just being brutally honest.” He reaches into his briefcase and pulls out a sheaf of papers, sliding them across the table to me. It’s the two scripts he’s been after me to consider. I know both contain some small love scenes, so I’d adamantly refused to even look them over.

The truth is, I’m a hopeless romantic, something my brother constantly gave me shit about. Until he met his wife. Now he has what I’ve been looking for my whole life. And, I’m not willing to do sex scenes that could jeopardize my future relationship. I don’t want her to be faced with knowing the world has seen parts of me that belong to her. Or seeing me give affection to another woman that should only be hers.

I’ve been lucky in my career. At seven-years-old, my funny personality and charisma had landed me a role as the comedic side-kick in a television show. Since then, I’ve encouraged being type-cast in similar roles. The funny friend, or a lead in a comedy with no romance, etc. Besides, I’ve earned enough Best Supporting Actor awards to prove that I’m damn good at it. I’ve even snagged the lead role in a few period movies which, true to the era, have no physical intimacy. One of them actually landed me a Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar one year.

It’s not that I don’t have the looks to be the next Hollywood heartthrob, with the tall, dark, and handsome thing I have going on. And that’s not vanity, it’s just the truth. I have the magz and rags to back it up. But, I’m happy in the path I’ve chosen. I get to do what I love without compromising my morals. I’ve never regretted my choice, even when I’ve walked away from roles that would have landed me among some of the richest actors in the world.

Lately, Ty has been pressuring me more than normal to consider even just the smallest romantic roles. “Are you trying to tell me that these are my only two offers, right now?” I ask with narrowed eyes.

Ty sighs. “No, but the others aren’t nearly as likely to be as successful and are a lot less money.”

I tap a finger on the stack of paper and raise an eyebrow. “When have you ever known money to sway me, Tyson?”

He rolls his eyes and points a finger at the scripts. “For the love of all that is holy, would you just fucking read them? As a favor to me? Then you can throw them at me and tell me to fuck off, once again.”

I huff and mimic him with a roll of my eyes. “If reading them will get you off my back, I’ll do it.” I grin. ”Call me tomorrow so I can tell you to fuck off then.”

“How fucking gracious of you.” Ty’s voice drips with sarcasm as he snaps his briefcase shut and stands. “I’ve got the contract for your guest spots on those two TV shows with the lawyer. I’ll bring them by your shoot, and you can tell me to fuck off in person.”

I laugh this time and get to my feet to see him to the door of my trailer. “Thanks, Ty.”

He lifts his chin, then steps out into the bright California sun. I’m about to shut the door when he swings back around. “Take a look at the list of actresses being considered for the lead in The First Time. Their first choice will only agree if you sign on for the film.”

Seems like an odd request but I nod and close the door without comment. I don’t know why he thinks she would affect my answer. None of the currently popular actresses have ever caused me to have even a spark of interest. Given my reputation, why would this actress make that stipulation? She’d better prepare herself for disappointment.
