--- Bruised not broken. Loved. Always. ---
Clover’s life was perfect a year ago. He’d found four men to love, each essential to making him whole. Each one of them tough in their own way, part of a crew of mercenaries living on the wrong side of the law.
Tank was his loving Daddy, Pyro the wild one always pulling him into mischief, Boar taught him how to cook, and Drake showed him how to use knives in a wholly different fashion.
All Clover wanted was to finally be an equal in the group. So he trained, he pushed, and risked, but when real danger stared him in the face, he broke like a twig.
Now, with one of his lovers taken, Clover can’t find a way back to his former self. Each of the relationships they’d so meticulously built is fractured, and might never be the same.
If their group is to ever be whole again, Clover needs to find the courage he’s lost, but that means facing the monster who scarred him, and truths none of his men want to confront.
THEIR PROPERTY is a dark gay harem contemporary romance, book 3 in the “Four Mercenaries” trilogy. The story contains scenes of explicit violence, offensive language, morally ambiguous characters and lots of scorching hot, emotional, explicit scenes.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS: Themes: polyamory, mercenaries, bounty hunters, albinism, commitment issues, dark past, male bonding, human trafficking, size difference, danger, alpha male, found family, size difference, distrust, shared, victim and protector, revenge, organized crime, angst, trauma, rescue, missing.... Not with his dishwater blond hair, gray hoodie, or his unimpressive size. Most importantly though, not when the crowd was as bloodthirsty as a pack of starving dogs in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Pyro’s grunt was like the roar of a speeding vehicle, but despite the clang of metal that followed, Clover wasn’t worried. That hadn’t been a sound of pain or dismay. Pyro was in his element, even if Clover couldn’t see him yet, since his view was blocked by raised hands. He could barely discern the dull thuds of fists hitting flesh, but as he moved toward the podium, blue hair flashed behind the thick steel mesh for a moment, reassuring him that his instincts had been correct.

The spectators weren’t a solid mass, so he inched closer to the cage bit by bit, keeping his head low to protect his sensitive eyes from the sharp glow of lamps overhead.

He hated this place, but he couldn’t leave Pyro on his own.

Pyro’s next punch threw his opponent at the mesh, and Clover yelped when blood sprayed from the man’s broken lip. The crowd were like sharks, and went wild at the display of violence.

“Ugh… stay down,” Clover whispered to Pyro’s opponent, but it was something he only did out of frustration, because the man whose eye was so swollen Clover couldn’t see it, wouldn’t have heard him anyway.

For endless seconds the entire room held its breath, as if it wasn’t a collection of individuals but a hive. The man did not get up.

In the bright light, Pyro’s hair was a frizzy crown. He stood over his opponent, his bloodstained chest rising and falling, eyes hard, ready to catch any movement coming his way. But it didn’t until the organizer, arbiter, or whoever that was, entered the cage and grabbed Pyro’s arm, raising it in triumph.

The crowd erupted in shouting, some of it so aggressive Clover feared for the safety of the loser. Almost everyone gathered had placed bets on one of the fighters, and if some of those people felt vengeful, things might turn ugly.

Clover was here for one reason, and he dashed through an opening between bodies in an attempt to reach the platform. He got pushed back several times by people wanting to pat Pyro’s sweaty shoulder or high five him, but he was getting closer.

“Pyro!” he yelled, reaching out in frustration. The last thing Clover needed was Pyro disappearing for drinks with strangers.

But in the flood of noise, which had just been joined by loud rock music, Pyro remained deaf to his shouting.

His face shiny with sweat and blood, he was still in the post-fight rush Clover had seen too many times to count. His movements were stiff, as if his knees had partially locked, but he went with the flow of people who, after a sequence of victorious fights, adored him for the cash he made them.

After four months of futile searching for Boar, Pyro had to unleash his aggression somewhere, and the fights were his poison of choice. Far from legal, ending up in people’s deaths, concussions and bites, they were something Clover hated on principle, but what really worried him was the risk Pyro put himself through for no other reason than to release violence on a world that had betrayed him.

So all Clover could do was be there for him and pick up the pieces if necessary.

Someone handed Pyro a small bottle of vodka, which he took several gulps from as if it were Dr. Pepper, and then sprayed the rest onto the crowd, drinking up their adoration.

Clover was certain his attempt to attract attention had been futile, but then Pyro’s dark eyes settled on him, and he dropped the bottle, leaning over the railing to reach him. The moment other spectators realized what was going on, someone pushed Clover forward, straight to Pyro’s waiting arms.

He gasped into the kiss that seared his lips with alcohol and the metallic taste of blood, but at least he was close. There was no point in trying to stop Pyro from these fights. God knew, Clover had tried. He begged, he pleaded, but none of that had worked, so if Pyro was to take part in them anyway, Clover preferred to at least know where Pyro was. The last thing he wanted after losing Boar was to find Pyro dead in a dark alley. And it had come very close to that a month ago, when Clover had been so fidgety about Pyro’s absence in the morning that Tank had driven with him, only to spot a familiar car in a ditch.

Pyro had come out of the accident unscathed, except for the huge bruise on his forehead, but it hadn’t taught him anything either. Tank had decided to wash his hands off Pyro after that, but the poor guy was grieving, and Clover couldn’t desert him. Not just for the sake of his own feelings, but also because of Boar, who they still hoped to find.
Fall had crept up on him like a bad case of the flu, and if he wasn’t smart, it might develop into pneumonia. So he wore more of his clothes in layers, and even used some of his sparse cash to buy a blanket at Goodwill. It still wasn’t enough.

The cold pushed its sharp claws into him as soon as he tried to fall asleep, so he rose and made his way through the park, keeping to dark corners where no one would see him from afar. Two teenagers had tried to rob him last night, and he’d only managed to fend them off thanks to his size.

He remembered finding nighttime walks enjoyable.

No longer.

His phone had run out of juice yesterday and he considered going into a cafe to load up, but despite knowing it couldn’t be so, he felt as if he had homeless tattooed across his forehead.

Just four days ago, he’d fallen asleep in a bed in his parents’ house as the cherished son who maybe didn’t do as well academically as they’d hoped, but was good enough and would find employment in Dad’s car wash.

But that plan couldn’t possibly come to fruition after he’d come out as gay.

Boar hadn’t even meant to, but Dad was talking shit about Tom from church, who Boar had a crush on, one thing led to another, and the truth stepped into the picture-perfect home like an uninvited guest

‘You cannot be serious, Jamie,’ Dad had said. ‘There is no place for such behavior under my roof!’

For three days now, Boar had been agonizing about the possibility of retreating home. Maybe crawling back into the closet was a far better option than spending the night on a bench, but he couldn’t find it in himself to face that reality. He’d lived in denial long enough.

Then again, maybe he was still in denial about his position, or he’d have tried harder at job-seeking. Finding employment would become much harder after weeks on the streets, even though he washed himself as well as he could in public bathrooms.

Lamps illuminated the two central alleys of the park, but Boar didn’t feel like he belonged with all the normal people returning from meetups with friends, from dates. He belonged in the dark in his three layers of clothing, with a plaid blanket worn as a cape, and less than ten dollars in his wallet.

His gaze was drawn to the imposing shadow of the gazebo even farther away from the lights, and he made his way there in hope that the structure’s roof would save him from getting soaked in case of rain.

He tried not to think too much about the fact that no one had tried to call him since he’d left his family home three days ago, because the message it sent was all too depressing.

The narrow alley directed him straight to the gazebo, but as he picked up his pace, intent on getting back to sleep, his feet hit something that sent him stumbling forward.

He pulled out his mini flashlight and looked down, stilling with curses on his lips.

A man lay with his upper body in a bush, but his legs obstructed the alleyway, his tattooed arms naked and his green Mohawk—a mess. When Boar scooted next to him, liquor was the first thing he smelled, but no one deserved hypothermia just because they’d made a stupid choice one night.

“Hey. You okay?” Boar kneeled and shook the guy’s shoulder.

He remained still, one side of his face stained by the dirt it was resting in, with kohl smudged around his eyes and a large bruise on the cheekbone.

Boar stilled so completely he could hear the rapid beating of his heart.

Was this guy… dead?

He leaned in with tension pulling at his tendons, but the sound of shallow breathing brought relief. The putrid smell of alcohol—not so much. He shook the stranger a bit more firmly.

“Hey. You fell asleep in the park.”

The man mumbled something but didn’t open his eyes. He was quite young, in his twenties but butch, with hard lines to his face and… green flames tattooed where his eyebrows should’ve been. A part of Boar suggested that this was the kind of man who would rob and murder him as soon as he woke up, especially when Boar noticed the face of Ted Bundy inked on one of his arms.

But.

But whoever this man was, on this cold night he was in a vulnerable position, like a wounded wolf that would die without the assistance of a kind human. Boar could only hope he didn’t end up with sharp teeth in his neck the next morning because of his kindness. Even if the guy was much rougher-looking than him, they were both in the same boat, and he wished that if he ever fell asleep like this, someone would offer him a helping hand.
--- Loved. Protected. Shattered. ---
Clover has found love with not one man, but four. He never imagined such a relationship could work, let alone that he’d be at the center of it, but a year later, his bond with the four mercenaries is stronger than ever.
Each man in Clover’s life completes him in a whole different way. Where Drake teaches him shibari, Boar always showers him with cuddles. Where Tank is strict and protective, Pyro takes Clover on wild adventures.
To truly become a part of the mercenary crew, Clover chose to train under the guidance of his men. He’s itching for action to prove to himself and to others that he can handle the toughest jobs.
But through violence and mayhem, Clover will be tried in ways he never wished for. Old enemies resurface, bonds are tested, and one wrong move can mean death.
THEIR BOUNTY is a dark gay harem contemporary romance, book 2 in the “Four Mercenaries” trilogy. The story contains scenes of explicit violence, offensive language, morally ambiguous characters and lots of scorching hot, emotional, explicit scenes.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS: Themes: polyamory, mercenaries, bounty hunters, albinism, commitment issues, dark past, male bonding, human trafficking, size difference, danger, alpha male, found family, size difference, distrust, shared, victim and protector, revenge, organized crime
He wasn’t proficient at it yet, since Drake had only taught him how to use them last month, but he was trying.

They’d left Seattle early in the morning so they could arrive home for lunch, but they’d both gotten too hungry on the way to resist a quick snack. Drake laughed as he chewed on his food, completely relaxed, as if Clover hadn’t helped him through violent night terrors just two days ago.

But maybe this was what Drake needed to be his happiest self? Beautiful woods around, country music blowing from the speakers, and no obligations to anyone but the pretty boy at his side.

“We can’t have too much. The guys’ll kill us.”

“I know, I know, I’ve heard Pyro’s got some serious barbeque plans, so I wanna stay hungry. Also…” Clover licked his lips and leaned over to kiss Drake’s cheek. “I don’t like to fuck on a full stomach, and I’m pretty sure the guys have missed me.”

Drake showed his teeth. “I bet they’ll enjoy all you’ve learnt on this trip,” he said and put his arm around Clover.

The two of them had been gone for an entire week to participate in an intense shibari course/SPA combo that left them both well-rested. Clover knew it would be difficult to return to proper training after seven days of tasting new foods and general overindulgence, but if even Drake thought it was fine to let go sometimes, he wasn’t going to resist the temptation.

“You better leave out the burger bun and sauces if you want your abs back.” He grinned and pinched the miniscule fat on Drake’s stomach. Clover loved him either way, but it was fun to tease.

Drake squinted, briefly looking at Clover before focusing on the smooth road through the woods again. “You’ll be sorry you said that when I start working on you. This will be your last laugh.”

Clover smirked and offered Drake another sushi roll. “Maybe that’s what I want.”

“I remember you really enjoyed being upside down last night. Maybe that’s what we should do so everyone could have a go at your mouth?” Drake whispered, pressing a kiss to Clover’s temple.

Regardless of all the dirty talk, Clover felt completely at ease with Drake and the others. Their five-person relationship was unconventional, but it gave him all the tenderness and safety he craved. This past week had been incredibly sweet, even though he’d spent much of it in bondage. Maybe it was because Drake never had a boyfriend before Clover, so he was taking extra care to make him feel special, but Clover appreciated every minute, nevertheless.

“Almost as fun as Disney World…” He glanced at Drake and pushed the sushi roll into his mouth as soon as the man opened his lips.

It was an ongoing bone of discontent as to which vacation had been better. The one with Drake in Seattle, or the one Pyro and Boar had taken Clover on two months ago. To be fair, they were difficult to compare, since one was a sophisticated, adult getaway where he’d been treated like a prince, the other—an indulgent opportunity to let Clover’s inner child run free for the first time, but he still liked provoking his men into spoiling him further. He’d even gotten to wear a tiara at Disney World. And not one of those cheap plastic ones either. His had been adorned with crystals, and he’d later gifted it to a young woman who’d accepted her boyfriend’s proposal during the fireworks.

Tank would often take Clover on hiking trips for two days at a time, as he preferred that to expensive outings that ‘fucked up his nutrition and training’. Clover loved the digital detox, the fucking in a tent, and connecting both with nature and his Daddy. What mattered was that each of his partners wanted to spoil him once in a while, be it with massages, too much sugar, or the last gluten-free sausage.

“Are you saying that you’d rather meet Mickey Mouse than levitate in ropes?” Drake asked, though he was joking.

Clover bit his lip, his heart already skipping a beat at the sight of the narrow road leading to Tank’s house. “I mean… Mickey’s ears are kinda sexy. Have you ever considered fucking in fursuits?”

Drake’s deep scowl made Clover laugh out loud.

“You guys did that, didn’t you? Jesus Christ, I hope Pyro doesn’t have that on video,” Drake moaned.

Clover grinned and sank back into his seat. “What happens in Disney World, stays in Disney World.”

“Maybe I should dress you up as a princess in peril then, if you enjoy costumes so much?” Drake said without conviction, but Clover’s attention shifted when he spotted the roof of their house in the distance.

The dark tones of a guitar on the radio were replaced by the sound of a helicopter. Drake frowned, but when the soft, feminine voice of the singer recited the first verse of the song that clearly referenced My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music, his features turned to stone. His index finger shot for the Off button like a bullet.
Clover is an orphan and has led a tough and chaotic life. No stability. No money. No friends. He trusts no one. His already miserable life takes a nosedive when he ends up in the hands of a human trafficking gang. Someone has placed a request for a young albino man, and Clover is to become the property of a mysterious buyer who will stop at nothing to satisfy their depraved desire. Clover’s fate seems sealed until four bounty hunters appear to take out his captors and accidentally save him.
The four mercenaries want to move on, but when Clover pleads for protection, they offer it to him at a price. In the beginning, the arrangement is all kinds of shady, but as he gets to know the four men who’ve taken him on a wild ride, his developing feelings might become as dangerous as the elusive buyer. But can a relationship with four such different men even work? Men who kill for a living? Men so full of contradictions?
Tank. The massive ex-soldier eager to be Clover’s Daddy.
Pyro. Wild, tattooed, with a filthy mouth and an itch for violence.
Boar. Ginger, bearded, a big teddy bear who can turn into a grizzly.
Drake. Dark and dangerous, with a tongue as sharp as his knives.
Can these men provide him with the love and security he craves? Or has Clover made the worst mistake of his life?
It was made of thin fabric, but still felt too hot and made his skin run with sweat underneath, slowly poaching his flesh in its own juices.

He looked at the two silhouettes in the front of the van, then to Drake, who sat on the floor across from him in perfect silence, his legs crossed, shoulders hunched, elbows resting on knees. His collection of knives was still laid out between them, and from time to time, Drake would move his fingertips over the blades, still undecided about which ones he wanted to pick for tonight. He knew his weapons by heart, the same way Tank could guess which one of his firearms he was holding, based on weight and the feel of the grip alone.

The sparse glow of the headlights died, a sure signal they were getting close to their target. In the middle of Nowhere, New Mexico, one had to put effort into remaining undetected, especially so late at night.

“Are you sure this is the spot?” Tank asked Boar, who drove the van at a languid pace, as if they were on a road trip, not tracking their mark.

“I double-checked the coordinates. It has to be our guy.”

Pyro twisted in the other seat, his features barely visible in the dark, but the moonlight still caught the edges of his large teeth when he grinned. “There’s lights ahead. We’re almost there.”

About time too, because the anticipation was making Tank’s gums itch for action. It was in situations like these that he felt most like himself. The sense of common purpose brought back memories of his time in Iraq, even if his army days ultimately had been a disappointment. They were still what formed him into the man he was now.

Lawless, and loyal only to his men.

They weren’t here to bring justice or peace. This was about money.

Boar switched off the van. “We should go on foot from here, or he’ll hear the engine.”

That push helped Drake make his choice, and he picked up a long blade. Unlike the rest of them, Drake didn’t need to change for the trip, as he already wore black from head to toe. Equipment on, and he was ready to go. Drake smirked before pulling on his balaclava. Human traffickers were Drake’s favorite marks. Tank suspected Drake would have gladly put them down even without getting paid, but a man needed to eat.

Tank rose from the floor but had to bow his head in the back of the van. “Pyro, do your thing. Boar, you go from the front. Drake, we’ll get in from the back. Riggs has a small crew so he might not be alone.”

“There was talk of him meeting a woman out here. A secret mistress?” Boar said as he got out of the car. He could be a mean fucker, but with the bushy auburn beard and a wide smile, he was most unassuming of their crew. Useful when the job required one of them to distract the target.

Pyro gave a short laugh and put on his own mask. “Rape’s only business for him then? But he personally likes them willing? That’s what you’re saying?”

Drake kicked the van door open and got outside, his slender yet tall silhouette a human-shaped black hole on the background of dark shrubs. “Focus,” he said sharply, looking toward the squares of light ahead. They were only minutes away from the old farmhouse. The job should be easy and clean, since their employer didn’t want them to deliver Riggs anywhere. The bastard was to leave the flesh market forever. Best thing the sack of bones could hope for was Tank’s bullet instead of Drake’s knife.

“Braid,” Tank groaned at Pyro when he saw him pass. What was the point of wearing a mask if there was blue hair peeking out at the back? They’d had so many conversations about this, but no, Pyro refused to cut the braid off. He had to be special. Tank had once suggested Pyro was compensating for his height with the extravagance, but one broken nose later, Tank never mentioned it again.

“Yes, Mom.” Pyro waved at Tank dismissively, but tucked the hair under his collar and pulled on the hood. He slapped Boar’s ass, and was off with a bag of explosives.

The darkness slowed them down but also kept them hidden. Riggs wouldn’t know what hit him.

Even at night, the white siding of the farmhouse was in stark contrast to the bare hills behind it and the lone tree that had grown so tall its naked branches would still provide enough shade during the day.

Two cars were parked in front of the porch. One—Riggs’s van. The other—an elegant SUV, which had to belong to the lady he’d been seen with. Tank frowned. The longer he watched the building the less it looked like an appropriate place for a sensual date. White paint was peeling off the facade, and one of the windows hung on a single hinge. Maybe the lady was a thrill seeker? Not that it was any of Tank’s business.
