A Steel Vipers MC and Titans of Hell MC Crossover

She had secrets. One of them might get them both dead.

Lennox has a chip on her shoulder.
She won't even try to deny it.
She has a score to settle with the president of the Titans of Hell.
She has a plan, and they will feel her wrath.

She, however, didn't plan on getting distracted by its newest member.
There was just something about the broody man called Ghost.
His scars, hoarse voice, and dark eyes held pain.
That pain spoke to parts of her that she never let anyone see.

Lennox wanted a taste, but she never planned on keeping him forever.
Sure, she might have made him some promises in the dark--but only with her body.
Nothing was said out loud. He couldn't hold her to any of it.

Could he?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Ghost

I read the note from Millie again. It didn’t matter I’ve read it a hundred times. I needed to keep reading it, however, wanting to commit every word to memory. I want it to linger in my gut, a constant reminder to never have faith in a woman again.

Dear Gary,

I know we made promises. I meant them, truly, I did. It’s just that since your surgery, I’ve realized we are just too different. I hate living here at the club. I’m miserable. This is your life. You chose this lifestyle. I did not. I want kids and a home. I want a man who puts me first, not a lifestyle which could land him in jail someday. I thought my feelings for you could overcome everything, but I was mistaken. I’ve wanted to tell you this for a while. I just didn’t think it was fair to do it until you recovered from your surgery.

You’re better now. You may always have health issues, but you’re strong and you don’t need me. It has been hard pretending these past few months, but I did it so you would recover. This way, I don’t feel quite so guilty. I know you’ve been making plans, and I pretended to go along with them. Please understand, I didn’t do it to be mean. You can still have kids, but it won’t be with me. I can’t imagine raising my children connected with a bunch of criminals. You’re a good person, Gary. If you ever decide to get out of this life, maybe we can be friends. I’d like that.

Take care,

Millie.

I shake my head and then slowly fold the letter back up. I feel stupid. Millie and I would lie close together in bed at night while my voice slowly came back after the surgery. I’d tell her how I wanted to have kids with her, build a life like the one Marcum and Toi had. It’s what I’ve always wanted. To know she was agreeing with me, even adding details to this fantasy life she never intended on living, slices away at my insides and leaves me raw. I thought facing the possibility of losing my voice forever was enough to destroy me, but I was wrong. It was nothing like the pain I’m having now. I can’t even decipher the feelings I’m having. Sure, betrayal is there, embarrassment for believing her lies, but it’s more than that. The biggest emotion is shame.

I wasn’t good enough…

Sure, I’m recovering. I can walk without a cane now. I can talk—although still not as much as is normal. The timbre in my voice has also changed. There are times I can’t even recognize myself. It really pisses me off that I get winded so easily. The weakness on my right side is the most troubling thing I’ve had to deal with. I did it, though. I did it for the women in my life. Millie helped talk me into the surgery—along with my sister and Toi. If not for them, I wouldn’t have. I was tired of fighting. The gunshot and head injury were just two more things on a pile of shit I was tired of dealing with.

Now, I’m here with no woman and my sister is completely happy. I feel like a damn fifth wheel in my own club. Worse, I have seen the looks of pity I’ve been getting for the last week. Ever since Millie packed up and handed me a damn goodbye letter.

I have to leave. I don’t have a choice. I’ve talked to Marcum about it. He offered me a position in another chapter, but that’s not what I wanted. I need a complete break. It might be my only chance of finding a way to breathe again. Right now, I just feel suffocated.

I look at the number Marcum wrote down for me. It’s on a torn-off piece of envelope from some of the club’s junk mail. He wasn’t happy about my decision, but he understood. I find it funny that I’m hesitant about calling this guy when it’s what I want. Yet, here I am. This club has been my life for so many years it’s hard to fathom leaving it. I know I need to, however.

Finally, with a deep breath, I key in the number and wait.

“E-Z.”

I clear my throat. “This is Ghost. Marcum said he spoke to you about me.”

“Hey, yeah. He said you were leaving his club for personal reasons. He didn’t really delve into it. Said I could trust your ass, though.”

“You can.”

“If I believed every motherfucker who told me that, I wouldn’t be standing.”

I find myself smiling, even though I don’t want to. “I get that.”

“You’re willing to pick up, fly halfway across the country, and leave your old club behind?”

“The fact it’s far away is the appealing part.”

I’m looking out over the one-way window of my upstairs office that shows the bar and dance floor below. Here I was, thinking it was going to be a slow night. I own one of the premiere night spots in Miami, and for the most part, things run smoothly. I have my fingers in a lot of pots though, so I can’t help but worry about what Joe deems as a problem.

“What’s up, Joe?” Big Joe is my right hand and my number one bouncer. He can usually handle anything, so for him to come to me is enough to set off warning bells. I swivel my chair back around to look at him.

“That kid you caught trying to sell his shit in the club last week?”

“Yeah?”

“He’s got family.”

“I fail to see why this concerns me, Joe.”

It sounds cold. Then again, I am fucking cold. Still, I gave the kid two chances to stop pushing his crap in my club. He didn’t listen. The way I see it, three strikes and you’re out. I’d already been more lenient with him than I would be others. He was so fucking young. Twenty-one. Young, dumb, and full of cum. Hell, at forty-two, I’m starting to think I’m too damned old to be doing this job anymore. I have money—more than enough money. Maybe I should just seek out some sandy beach out of the country and call it a day. Greece, my mother’s family was from there. Even if my mother was a fucking bitch, maybe I’ll find some affinity for the country.

“His sister’s been making waves,” he tells me.

“Again, why do I care?” I ask, taking a drink of my Scotch. It’s aged perfectly and the burn soothes me going down.

“She’s been talking to the cops.”

“Fucking hell. What does she know?”

“Not a lot. But you know the badges. They hear your name and they’re going to come running.”

I sigh. He’s not wrong. They just hear the name Roman Anthes and they come poking around, descending on my club, my company, and any holdings I have. Since I’m trying to broker a deal to get into bed with the Russians, that could be disastrous right now.

“Where is this sister?”

“That’s just it, boss. You just hired her.”

“I haven’t hired anyone here at the club in months,” I argue. I’m very careful about the workers I hire here. I make sure I have them all vetted carefully and meticulously.

“Not here. She started work at the Dive.”

“Waitress?” The Dive is a strip joint on the edge of a low rent side of town. I won the fucking thing in a card game. Had plans for selling it off, just haven’t got around to it yet.

“Dancer. You gave Yoly the okay to hire her a couple of weeks ago. She’s starting to get pretty popular. Yo says business has tripled since she started.”

“Does she have any idea who she works for?”

“Don’t see how she could, boss. No one knows you own the Dive, and those papers are buried and tangled so deep, even the feds couldn’t find them.”

“Do you have her file?”

“Sure thing.” He hands a plain manila folder to me and I let it stay on my desk, thinking.

“What do we have on her?” I ask, opening the folder and moving my fingers over the glossy 5 by 7 picture stapled to the application. It’s a blonde with medium-length hair which is cut to curl toward her face and accent her strong cheekbones. Her eyes are violet. I never knew they made eyes that color. I have all my dancers photographed in nothing but their underwear, and she’s definitely got the body to make men beg. I thumb through the rest of it quickly.

“Just what’s in the file, boss. Well, that and obviously her affection for her brother.”

“What did we do with the little fucker?” I ask him. My eyes keep going back to the photo of the blonde.

“He’s at the warehouse. You have him in one of the containers.”

“So, not yet dead?”

“No, but only because Bruno has been out for his kid’s surgery.”

“How is Thomas?”

“It was a success, thanks to your generosity. Bruno says they even said Thomas would be able to walk after some therapy.”

“Good, good. Tell Bruno to hold off. The kid might prove to be useful.”

“What are you thinking?”

“I’m thinking the asshole might yet prove of use to me,” I tell him without expanding. He knows me well enough that he just closes the door, leaving me to my thoughts.

Ana Stevens. The pretty blonde dancer has no idea what trouble she just landed into. I reach down and adjust my cock because the son of a bitch has been rock hard since I laid eyes on Ana’s picture. Why does it suddenly feel like, despite everything, my day is looking up?
Now I’m property of Max Kincaid, Florida Correctional Inmate Number 91428.
I should be terrified. I should be demanding he set me free.
I’m not.
The longer I’m with him, the more I need him. His touch answers cravings I never knew my body had.
Now, it’s not my freedom I’m begging for.
It’s more of him.
That is sign number one. Sign number two is my horoscope warning me I shouldn’t leave the house today. Sign number three is when I go outside to discover my old, beat up, 1990 something model Toyota, sitting on a flat. I’m stressed out already, and it’s only 7 am. I’m all set to call in sick when my boss calls me with his usual song and dance. I’m sick today Tessa. I really need to take the day off. Clear all my appointments. Make up some excuse for me. What he really means, is he and his wife are flying to Tahoe for the weekend. I know because Claire, the other secretary, let that little tidbit slip.

When I remind him that Judge Ryson appointed him as counsel in a case that was on the docket this morning, he goes silent. When I inform him it is a parole hearing and can’t be rescheduled, that sick feeling only increases. When he asks me to get Stuart to cover for him, we begin a ten-minute conversation on why Stuart is hopeless and will end up losing the case and destroying a man’s chance for freedom.

I’m not usually so concerned, but his client today is Max Kincaid, and I’m more than slightly obsessed with this case. Max deserves someone who will actually try to get him free.

I shouldn’t be that concerned with this case. I should have kept my fat mouth shut because the next thing I know, Charles, my boss, has volunteered me to go before the parole board and present the case as his proxy. I try every way in the world to stress that I can’t do it. I point out that Mr. Kincaid was unlawfully put in jail, and he needs a real attorney looking out for him. I might as well have saved my breath. His response was that I know the case better than anyone and Mr. Kincaid would best be served with me, by his side.

“Tess you know the law inside and out. You can do this.” Click.

That’s the only response I get from my final plea for him to do what the freaking state pays him to do. I really should have quit this job ages ago. I haven’t because I can’t afford to. I would have loved to go on to law school, but I put myself through school to get my paralegal license. There’s no way I can work full time to pay back student loans, and go back to school.

I was stupid enough to think that I would get a job right out of school. Well, not completely stupid. I did get a job immediately—at McDonald’s and then later at Shoe Warehouse and Dollar Mart. I had three jobs and still could barely manage to pay rent on my apartment. It was also an apartment I barely visited, unless it was to collapse on the bed to nap before my next shift started.

I was drowning in debt from school loans and so tired I could barely hold my eyes open. When I walked into Charles Barger’s, and he offered me a paralegal position, it seemed like the answer to my dreams.

It turned out to be a nightmare.

It does keep a roof over my head though and the damn collection calls down. That’s what I remind myself of again today, as I put on my big girl panties and suck it up. It’s a parole hearing and on a case I do, in fact, know inside and out.

I get my tire changed and head to the office, grabbing the files and things I will need for the hearing, then head straight for the federal prison in Ormond. It takes a good hour to drive there, and the hearing is scheduled to start in forty minutes. That’s when yet another sign from the universe falls in my lap, in the form of a speeding ticket. Fuck my life!

I try to pay attention to my speedometer the rest of the trip, but it’s hard. My mind is swirling as I go over the facts I need to present to the panel. My boss wasn’t lying when he said that I knew this case better than anyone. The truth is I’ve been consumed with Max Kincaid’s case. I must have read his file a thousand times. I know it’s not healthy. I do. I just can’t seem to make myself stop. I stare at his picture, and something about those dark, inky, onyx eyes call to me. His features seem familiar, even though there’s no way that’s possible.

I’ve even memorized his information. Max Kincaid, age thirty-six, date of birth February 11, 1979. Dark black hair, black eyes, and three distinct scars. A small one above his right eyebrow, one on his side from an appendectomy he had as a teen, and one jagged scar on his chest he received in the line of duty as a soldier in the Middle East. Max is a hero, awarded the Purple Heart for heroism in battle when he saved his entire platoon from a mortar attack by driving straight into the line of fire and drawing it away from his men. He had more men offer to stand up for him during his murder trial than the judge would allow to testify. By all accounts, Max was the golden boy, the man that women loved, and men wanted to be. His downfall came from loving the wrong woman, marrying her, expecting a child with her and then brutally extracting revenge for their deaths.

1

Toi

I hear them in the distance. The wracking of the pipes can’t be misunderstood. My father finally messed with the wrong people and soon the devil will be here, demanding his due. In this case the devil is a tall, tatted biker named Marcum. He’s been here before. For some reason he’s given my father at least two chances to get his shit together. He didn’t. I could have told him he wouldn’t.

I guess this is dear old Dad’s third strike. I should wake him up. He’s passed out on the stained, broken, worn out, red futon in the back room. I know because that’s usually my bed. When I came home from my shift at Jenny’s—the local diner where I cook—that’s where I found him.

I should wake him up. I should warn him. I suppose that’s what a decent daughter would do. Then again, Dad’s never been decent to me, not in all of the years I’ve known him. So, I’m having trouble drumming up the energy to care what happens to him. That probably makes me a bad person, but hell, being good never did shit for me. If life has taught me one thing, it’s save yourself. No one else is going to. Marcum runs the Steel Vipers. They’re a one percent MC club here in Florida that no one fucks with. No one, except my father. Which again, is proof that my father is a moron. One percent basically means they don’t give a fuck about rules and laws. They’re their own entity. A smart person would steer far away from them. My father has never been smart.

I run through the house grabbing my overnight bag and begin stuffing what clothes I can find in it. I’ve got to get out of here. I know enough about Marcum and his thugs to know they leave no witnesses. Maybe I’m a bitch and risking great cosmic issues of epic proportion, but my father made his own bed and I’ve been on the receiving side of his fists often enough that I don’t really give a damn. I’ve only stayed here this long because of my grandmother. She died last week. She had been living in a local nursing home facility. I always said that when something happened to her I would kiss Crescent City goodbye. But I’m still here, trying to come up with money to move.

The most I’ve accomplished is trying to live on my own. That didn’t work, my father found ways to spread his shit to my new place, so it was just easier to stay here.

The roar of the bikes is getting closer. I took too long trying to get my crap. My hands are shaking as I grab my keys off my dresser. I can hear them pull into the drive. I’ll come back for my car. I can’t risk going out there. I run through the back of the house, even as a fist is banging against the front door—almost hard enough to make it collapse. I gasp, and then bite my lip painfully to stop the noise. I’m sure it’s impossible for them to hear me, but I don’t want to chance it. I bite so hard I can taste the bitter, coppery tang of blood in my mouth. I ignore it and then go straight for the small bathroom at the back of the house, right off the kitchen. I close the door quickly, which dulls the yells of Marcum demanding my father open the door. My hands are shaking as I close the lid on the commode and then climb on top of it. I push on the small window, pulling it up. I would have preferred a bigger window, but this is the only one in the house that doesn’t have a screen. Once I get it pushed up, I throw my bag out first. I hear it land on the ground, but luckily it’s quiet enough I doubt it will alert the others. Next, I heft myself up and swing one leg over the ledge and then contort my body to the outside while I slowly slide down the back of the house.

“Look what we got here boys!” a man calls out, just as I feel his large hands capture my hips, locking me in his arms and making me his prisoner. My heart somersaults in my chest as fear wraps around me. I was stupid to grab my stuff first.

What in the hell was I thinking?

“Is that Weasel’s kid?” another asks.

“She don’t look much like a kid to me. She’ll make a good addition to the club talent,” I hear from another one. I’m afraid to look at him. My hands are on the shoulders of a very tall man, who probably isn’t much older than I am. He’s got dark hair which is cut unevenly and sticking up in different directions on one side of his head, but done so in a jagged enough pattern that it looks good. He’s covered in ink; I can see it on his neck and on his thick arms that stick through the leather club cut he’s wearing. His eyes are brown and where I expected hate and anger, I see none. I don’t even see the look of interest in my body. I can literally feel those looks from the other two men standing close to us, but not from him. I almost feel…safe. I start to calm down. Maybe this won’t be as bad as I feared. Most things aren’t… Right? Your mind always creates worst case scenarios. Maybe this is one of those cases. Maybe this guy will be my savior.
