Phoenix is a hot drummer with a bad attitude. Tom is a punk-rock singer who’s too hard to impress. Two problem children of their bands have one shot at making it big in this M/M Rockstar Romance—if they don’t burn it all down.

Tom Cobalt has been called a lot of things. Arrogant god. Overachiever. Demanding, uncooperative jerk. It comes with the territory of being the fifth-born of a storied family. Not even his own punk-rock band can meet his high standards. So when every member of The Carraways quits on him before finishing an album, he’s left with a bruised ego and a major dilemma.

Reviving his childhood dream comes down to one infuriating choice: pair up with a hard-edged drummer or be dropped by his music label permanently.

Phoenix St. Pierre has enough baggage to ground every plane in New York City. He’s volatile, sleep-deprived, and still carrying the fallout of imploding his own band. He should not be paired with Tom, the stuck-up trust-fund baby who pushes all his buttons—yet the second chance is impossible to walk away from.

Making music means too much to Phoenix and Tom to let this last shot slip through their fingers. But working together feels like a Shakespearean disaster ready to unfold. Especially when off-the-charts chemistry, undeniable attraction, and destructive habits threaten to make or break them.

It’s nothing personal—but they just might be the best and worst thing that ever happened to each other

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHARACTER LIST

THE COBALTS

Connor Cobalt & Rose Calloway

Not like “my life is over” fucked.

I suffer from the extreme inability to quit on myself—even when people quit on me. I’m more afraid of my dream decaying into nothingness than I am of what I might do to keep it alive.

Which is why I’m on Craigslist right now.

I’m nearing embarrassing levels of desperation.

“Here’s one.” I stop on an ad and zoom in on my laptop so my brother behind me can see. “This guy is looking for a guitarist near Union Square. He says he plays bass and he’s a singer-songwriter.”

I need a bassist. Like by tomorrow.

I also would like a drummer. Basically, I need to reform my shattered band, and searching Craigslist for potential musicians is the only solid solution I’ve had in weeks.

Eliot peers over my shoulder, a strong hand clasped on the desk chair where I’m seated. He taps the keyboard, demagnifying the ad. “Only two sentences of information?”

“He just says to contact him if interested,” I explain. “He gives his name. Blaine Thomas.”

“I’ve never met a Blaine I liked.”

“Dude, I don’t care if he’s named Beef Hotdog right now.”

Eliot points at another ad. “Check this one.”

“I still think this Blaine guy has potential,” I say, but I go ahead and open the other ad and skim the details. “Uhh, this girl is looking for a guy to sing folk music with her in Brooklyn.” I cringe just imagining myself singing Mumford & Sons covers in a coffee shop where no one gives a fucking damn. Because why would they? They’re not there to be distracted by my life-changing, transcendent vocals. They’re there to sip their lattes, pop in earbuds, and worry about some business report due the next day.

I’m going to be ambient background noise.

Elevator music.

My face twists in a harsher cringe. I blink repeatedly, and I swallow down distaste like a four-year-old learning to eat their veggies.

It’s good for you, Tom.

I could convince her to join my band. Maybe the label would be interested in a guy-girl duo. The type of music, we could work out later.

“Maybe…” I grimace more.

“We don’t do Brooklyn, brother,” Eliot says.

We live in a luxury high-rise in Hell’s Kitchen—apartment 2166—but he’s not snubbing Brooklyn because it’s beneath us. He got in a bar brawl in a Brooklyn pub a few months ago when some drunk idiot called our oldest brother a cunt.

Charlie wasn’t even there, but that didn’t stop Eliot from defending his honor, me joining in, and our bodyguards pulling us out.

I sigh hard at the laptop. “I can’t be picky about where in New York someone is eating and sleeping. I need a viable band to present to the label in two days.” I click back into the list of ads. “And I doubt Charlie would even care that we’ve sworn off an entire portion of New York on his behalf.”

Eliot tips his head. “Vrai.” He says true in French.

After he dismisses three more potential ads—one of which was reasonable, except for the demand that the guitarist be right-handed (I am right-handed…but still)—I whirl around on my six-foot-four, towering, loyal-to-the-bone brother.

Eliot Alice Cobalt is only eleven months older than me. He’s my closest brother in more than just age. I know things about him no one else does. I tell him everything first. Between the two of us, secrets are hard to find, and out of my family—out of the Cobalt Empire—I would’ve never imagined he’d make duct-taping my band back together more difficult.

“What’s with the pushback?” I question. “I’d expect this from Charlie or Beckett. Not you. Okay, you rarely shoot down my harebrained ideas.”

“Best ideas,” he corrects.

“Exactly.” I wave a hand at him. “You think all my ideas are the best ideas. So what fucking gives?”

He threads his arms, his biceps bulging. He really needs to put down the weights. I’m starting to look scrawny next to him.

I hike my brows at his lingering silence. “What is it?”

“I’m just wondering what happened to your standards.”

My standards. I clench my jaw. “Bruised and battered, Eliot Alice.” I can’t even force a strained smile. This concerns him.

I see it in the creases of his eyes, but is it such a bad thing to lower my standards? I’ve been told they’re too high. I’ve been told I should “aspire for less” and this was coming from my own therapist.

And sure, Dr. Carlton didn’t phrase it exactly like that, but I can read between the lines and I can take a hint. I just can’t follow them. Because I’m still aiming for stars in undiscovered galaxies when I should set my expectations on planet Earth.

I’m deeply aware I’ve set unrealistic goalposts, but what is the point of life if not chasing after the thing you want and love?
Love burns hottest when it's blue.

Ben Cobalt is number six. Not sixth place—in fact, he’d be considered at least third draft pick for the NHL if he didn’t quit hockey during college. And he’s not sixth-in-line for any throne. Though, most consider his larger-than-life, billionaire family American royalty.

He is the sixth-born Cobalt.

Out of a normal family of seven, he might get lost in the shuffle. But being the black sheep of the Cobalt Empire comes with its own intense spotlight. After he hits a major low at college in Philly, his four older brothers convince him to move in with them in New York City. Transferring to Manhattan Valley University—piece of cake.

Living in an apartment with all of his brothers while harboring a giant secret among a family who’s more tight-knit than a secret society—total effing chaos.

He has to find a way out of the tense living arrangement, especially as he clashes with his oldest brother Charlie. Ben turns to an unlikely source for help. A grumpy, punk-rock girl with a troubled past who's already pissed off one Cobalt brother.

So when an undeniable attraction ignites, Harriet Fisher is expecting the flames to die out. Except…what happens when they don’t? Falling for a Cobalt brother with secrets might be a Shakespearean tragedy she can't rewind.

BURN BRIGHT is the first book in the Cobalt Empire series, a new adult romance series about legacy, loyalty, and love

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

HARRIET FISHER

Itake my beer and my scowl to the wall. Me and the wall—great friends. My only current friend.

This party feels like an amalgamation of hipsters, jocks, beauty queens, and outcasts. A total Breakfast Club scenario. But instead of five people sharing detention there are a hundred-plus sharing a frat house.

My white crop top and red-and-black checkered, very low-rise pants—which I love in all their early 2000s punk glory—shouldn’t cause me to stand out that much. I’m positive I saw a guy wearing a spiked collar five minutes ago.

I take a stiff sip of beer.

Alone.

Avoiding direct eye contact with others.

Maybe I thought things would be different at Manhattan Valley University.

New city, new college, new outcomes. But I might be part of the problem when it comes to making friends. I don’t know how to be warm and inviting. I can blame it on my scowl and permanent Resting Bitch Face, but the truth is I could try harder to be softer. More approachable. Yet, the thought of being someone that people actively want to approach makes me scowl even harder. Is it weird? To want friends but also not want them?

Sure, the idea of friends sounds amazing. People to hang out with, laugh with, go to the movies and venture to the mall with. But friends also come with drama—like what if they judge me? Hate me? What if I do something wrong to mess it all up? Or worse, what if they’re amazing friends, and they start wanting more from me? So I’d have to start sharing about my life and get into my past, and all that sounds so incredibly taxing that I’d like to just fling myself into a dilapidated cabin in the South Pole where no one can find me.

Friends…sometimes the fantasy seems better than the reality.

And it’s not just girls that I struggle to connect with in that way. I’ve never had a friendship with a guy. I’ve never wanted to be adopted as one of the bros. I can’t wrap my head around what a guy’s girl even looks like. It sounds like phony fucking baloney.

I’m not even really attempting to make a friend tonight. Literally, my goals are on the floor. I just want to have a better-than-average time at this party.

When I go to the backyard for some fresh air, a thought slams at me.

I shouldn’t have come here.

Maybe I should’ve stayed inside and melted into the plaster. Kappa guys play beer pong on the grass while couples giggle-fight during a game of chicken in the pool, and I’m just trying to reach a corner of the fence.

“She’s so tiny,” a six-foot-something asshole with a humongous smile says. He wears an MVU Row Team shirt, and he elbows his preppy friend in the side. “Like a little Polly Pocket.” They snort together.

I try to walk around the jock for the second time.

He side-steps again. “Whoa, Polly, how tall are you?” He tries to pat my head, and I jerk backward.

“Leave me alone.” I raise my voice which contains rasp and grit.

But their glassy eyes say they’re four beers in and I’m as threatening as a Chihuahua. “Come on, you’re supposed to be fun-sized.” He downs a big gulp. “Be fun.”

His friend laughs, then leans into the jock to mutter, “Those are definitely party-sized, though.” Their heavy-lidded eyes drop to my chest.

Yeah, I have larger than average boobs. I’ve been told this super uninteresting fact since the tenth grade. Guys like to act as if it’s surprising to me. Like I don’t realize my tits are, I don’t know, attached to my fucking body.

I can see them.

I know they’re big.

And I wish I didn’t finish off my beer in the house. I’d throw it at his face. Cup and all. Instead, I flip them off with two middle fingers. “How’s this for fun?”

They snicker, like I’m playing around. Like this is just a game and I should lighten up. It’s a party, right? We’re at a frat house on campus. People aren’t taking anything seriously here.

I’m the buzzkill.

But maybe I don’t want to be the five-foot-one party favor.

“Seriously,” I growl. “Just let me through.” I try to slip past the jock.

He blocks me.

I glare. “Dude.”

“Polly.”

What the fuck?!

“Oooh, you made her mad, Cameron,” he says off my scowl.

“Does she bite?” Cameron laughs, then tries to pat my blonde hair again.

I swat his hand away. “Don’t touch me.”

“Aww, she’s a snapping turtle.” Cameron passes his beer to his preppy friend. “You know what turtles need?”

My pulse races. I try to back away, to return inside, but I barely even rotate before Cameron hoists me around the waist. I kick out as he tosses me over his shoulder and shouts, “Water!”

“Let me down!” I yell, banging a fist against his back. I squirm and try to pull away as he carries me to the pool. No, no, no. Panic envelops me alongside raw anger, and I fight against his rower strength.
