No, this can’t happen. She can’t know. No one can know.
I always understood he was off limits, But I couldn’t imagine my life without him.
In fact, I saved myself for him! And working at his restaurant was…fun.
My ‘let’s seduce Michael plan’ was working, And soon he was feeding me chocolate covered strawberries,
And I was tasting whipped cream off of his lips and…you know what… But we screwed up…big time!
So, time for Plan B now. Yep, when shit hits the fan, I do the easy thing and run away.

Books by Author:

Victoria Snow

Prologue: Stevie

It was The Day.

I remember that I had written it in all caps on my calendar hanging on the wall of my childhood bedroom. Mom and Dad assumed that I wrote it that way because it was the day of my high school graduation, and I let them keep thinking that. They would have lost their minds if they’d known what it really meant.

The thing was, I knew I was graduating high school. I had always had great grades, I was an active member in the drama club and the field hockey team, my teachers loved me – but in my head, graduation day was more for my parents. They got to see their baby girl walk across the stage and get her diploma. For me, all the hard work had already been done.

So for me - for me, the big day wasn’t about graduating.

It was about the afterparty.

I was finally eighteen, and I was out of high school. Two very important distinctions when you’ve got a huge crush on a man who is old enough to be your father.

Nobody knew about my crush, of course. I wasn’t an idiot and I knew what everyone would think. But all through high school I was just so… done with all the boys my age. Even the college age boys that I met at parties or through my older brother Andy. They were immature, and inexperienced. They didn’t know what they wanted out of life, they were thoughtless and honestly wouldn’t know how to get a girl off if their lives depended on it.

I wanted someone with class, someone who had his life together, someone with maturity and brains and compassion. And someone who knew what he was doing in bed. Someone who could take charge and make me beg for him.

And that man was Michael Madison.

I met Michael through his daughter - my best friend Brooke. Brooke was… not the sharpest knife in the drawer, bless her. But she was kind, so very kind and thoughtful. She had a smile for everyone. She was always one of the most popular girls in our school and not because of any machinations on her part, shockingly, but because she was genuinely such a lovely person that everyone wanted to know her and be her friend.

Everyone always said I was lucky to be her best friend, and I was. Brooke was there for me no matter what, and I was happy to be there for her too.

I was just also lucky in another way.

Michael - he insisted I call him that rather than Mr. Madison—was tall, fit, and so very handsome. He had this light brown hair that curled a little when it got humid or when he’d been working in the hot kitchen all day, and these soulful green eyes that sucked me in, like an ocean. I often found myself accidentally staring into them for too long, just… lost in them.

But more than just being handsome as sin - he was such a good person. He never spoke to me like I was a child but talked to me like I was the same age, like an adult. It was so refreshing, after dealing with everyone still treating me like I had no idea what I was doing with my life. He would teach me how to make fancy dishes when I slept over at Brooke’s house while Brooke watched us, making jokes. He never chastised me when I used swear words - which I used a lot. I’d always had a problem with cursing.

He gave me my love of cooking, my love of food. He was the reason I had decided to go to culinary school instead of a proper four-year college. My parents didn’t mind, thank God. I thought they might protest, but instead they thought a vocational college was an excellent idea and they were grateful to Michael for his mentorship.

If they knew all the things I thought about Michael fantasizing alone in my bed at night, touching myself, whimpering into my pillow as I imagined him inside me, pulling my hair, biting my neck and telling me stay quiet, that’s a good girl.

He was the reason why I hadn’t had sex yet. Oh, sure, I’d fooled around a little, but just a make out session with a guy was enough to tell me that just as I’d suspected, they didn’t have what I wanted. And I listened to Brooke talking about her experiences and… no thanks. I was going to wait for someone who knew what he was doing, who knew how to get me actually turned on and desperate and needy.

Now I was eighteen, legally an adult, and out of high school. Also about to leave for culinary school and be away for three years.

There would never be a better time for me to make a move on the man starring in my fantasies for years.
I’ve broken so many rules in the past. Is there one about him getting to know our daughter?
Not sure how long I can continue to break that one!
A full-length, standalone office romance with no cliffhanger, and a swoon worthy happily ever after.

At the sound of my boss cursing loudly, I uttered a swear of my own under my breath and pressed my lips together. Nico Ulrich, my boss, had gotten back to the office and now, there was no way I’d be able to take the call I’d had scheduled for three-thirty that afternoon.

The call with the headhunter, the very one that I’d promised myself I wouldn’t even start to consider for another year.

And to be honest, it wasn’t even the first time I’d considered leaving my current job. My boss, Nico, ran his own sports agency. He was brilliant and talented and incredibly wealthy.

He was also a massive, massive dick.

“Harper!”

At the sound of my name, I froze. Shit, I thought as I got to my feet. What now?

I walked into Nico’s office and saw him sitting behind his desk, his blue eyes blazing with anger. His black hair was slicked away from his chiseled face and his jaw was clenched so tightly that I could see it from where I stood across the room.

The truly unfortunate thing about my boss was that he was gorgeous. Like, easily the hottest man I’d ever seen.

If only he wasn’t such a huge asshole, I might have actually been interested in him. But as it was, I was hoping to leave Ulrich Sports for greener pastures. I was good at my job and I knew that landing on my feet wouldn’t exactly be difficult, but having Ulrich on my resume was certainly a feather in my cap. That was just one of the reasons why I’d been hoping to stick it out for at least another year before jumping ship, but I’d just about had it with Nico. His temper, his attitude – the way he took pride in regularly making some of his employees cry.

He’d never made me cry – at least, not at the office. I always pretended like I was too tough for that, and hopefully my ruse was enough to persuade Nico. I had a backbone of steel, but some days, there was only so much of Nico’s shit that I could take. He was hot-tempered and fierce, every bit the arrogant Russian businessman, and I knew that he’d gone through a string of personal assistants before I’d finally gotten the job.

“You’re the one who has stuck,” Nico had said one time, exaggerating his Russian accent and raising an eyebrow at me. The look he’d given me had made me blush and for a second, I wondered if he’d actually been coming onto me.

But no – that wasn’t possible. The look had disappeared as quickly as it had first shown in his eyes, and I’d forgotten all about it.

At least, I’d forgotten about it until now.

Nico was staring at me and I saw a trace of hunger in his eyes.

“What can I do for you?” I asked. Please, please, just send me some useless errand and then leave the office early, I thought as I crossed my fingers behind my back. I was still hoping to take that call from the headhunter – especially now that Nico had gotten up from his desk and had begun stomping around the room and growling under his breath. He picked up a statue on the glass coffee table in the center of his office and threw it at the wall with a loud thud! That would have made a more timid person wince.

“My fucking family,” Nico hissed under his breath. He shoved his hands into his pockets and stomped from one end of his office to the other. “They think they know what’s fucking good for me!” He turned to me and narrowed his eyes. “Tell me, Harper – do you listen to your parents?”

When I didn’t answer immediately, a sadistic smile crossed his face and again I was struck by the realization that Nico was truly gorgeous. His skin was alabaster pale and despite the fact that he was in his late thirties, there wasn’t a single line on his face. The late afternoon sun streaming in through the blinds made his sapphire-blue eyes sparkle and his dark hair looked so soft that I had to restrain the urge to run my fingers through it.

“Are you a good girl, Harper?” Nico asked, cocking his head to the side and smiling. His words sent a chill down my spine – didn’t he realize that such a phrase was loaded with sexual meaning in American English?

He does, I suddenly realized. He knows exactly what he’s doing to me.

“I’m not sure what you mean, exactly,” I replied.

Nico didn’t respond for what felt like an eternity. The air between us crackled and sizzled with tension, and my heart began to thump faster in my chest. I shifted my weight from one foot to the other and my clit started to throb in my panties as the material slipped against the lips of my pussy.
Prologue – Remy

His hands are roaming all over my body. There isn’t a single inch of my skin that I think he has failed to touch. My senses feel completely overwhelmed by this hot, sexy man who’s surrounding me like he wants to devour me. His scent is musky and woody, so masculine and unlike anything I’ve ever smelled before. No matter how close I feel I am to him, it doesn’t feel like it’s enough. I just want to feel him impossibly nearer, impossibly deeper inside me, but I...

“Remy?” the familiar voice of my best friend and colleague Shelley whispered, forcing me out of my daydream.

“Yeah?” I murmured back as I lifted my gaze from the paper I’d been mindlessly doodling on. I realized I had completely zoned out during an important meeting in the conference room. I was supposed to be taking minutes for my ridiculously sexy boss, Griff Strong, and now I wasn’t not even sure how far along we are in the meeting.

It seemed like Griff had noticed my lapse in attention. His mysterious gray eyes met mine across the large wooden table where all my colleagues and a few of the other higher ups were sat. His intense gaze made me look away again as heat rushed throughout my entire body.

From that moment on, I did my best to pay attention to what everyone around me was saying and I thought I did except for the unwavering tension I could feel between my boss and me. It was a bad idea. I was already struggling to concentrate on the task at hand, but I just couldn’t resist. I took one more glance upward at my handsome boss and watched as he marked up the proposal sheet in front of him with a red pen. He slashed the nib across the page in a decisive strike to cross something out that he didn’t like.

It was strange. Even watching him scribbling on a document made my cheeks flush bright red. I couldn’t help but focus on how strong and commanding he was in everything he did—even editing. Ever since I’d started working for this company, I’d had a crush on Griff. He was pure male, totally dominant, and unquestionably masculine. In other words, he was my ideal man.

Every time we were in a room together, I couldn’t help but clench my thighs tight while my panties got soaked from how aroused he made me. It was like that right from the very start of my time at Enviropak, America’s leading packaging manufacturer using only recycled materials. Now, I’ve been in my position as Griff’s secretary for almost two years and never once did I truly believe my little crush would lead anywhere—that is until a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, a couple of weeks ago, Griff took me along to a conference in Chicago about new types of foil packaging he was interested in researching and that’s where everything changed. One thing had led to another and we spent an unexpected and raunchy weekend in the throes of passion together. It had been everything I’d wanted for so long, but as soon as it had started, Griff had ended it.

‘We can’t do this again,’ he’d told me with a stiff posture and a frown. But it was all so confusing. How was I supposed to separate my sex life from work when I was currently pretending to be in a full-blown relationship with him?

That’s right. When Enviropak was taken over by a bigger conglomerate, the new CEO, Albert Anderson, decided that he wanted every member of the management team to emulate the new company values. Those values? Family, family, and family. Everybody in a position of responsibility was pretty much expected to be either married with kids or on their way there—which was a problem for Griff, the biggest, baddest, most eligible bachelor I’d ever met.

I had no idea if our little charade was working. Griff hadn’t mentioned anything to me about Albert being suspicious of his new family-orientated appearance. From what I’d seen of Griff and Albert’s interactions, I thought they were buying it, but they weren’t the only ones…

I might have been buying it too.

It wasn’t my fault. Apart from the lack of sex, Griff had been acting like the perfect boyfriend. The more he acted like an amazing boyfriend, the more I wanted the fantasy to become a reality.
And I knew that fairy tales weren’t real. But I still believed in true love. The problem?
Unrequited love is torturous. And carrying your boss’s baby dangerous…
Well, cupid is a sadist, isn’t it?

Books by Author:

Victoria Snow Books

Prologue

Bella

I opened my eyes and stared into the gray eyes of the man I was hopelessly in love with. For a moment, I wondered if I’d died and gone to heaven. Blake Alexander was the man of my dreams and if heaven were a perfect place, when I died, I’d be in his arms, with him loving me for eternity.

“I’ve called 9-1-1.” A voice informed Blake. I looked around and saw other faces, then it came to me. I wasn’t in heaven. I was in the boardroom of JoXander Cosmetics. I was laying on the floor although I wasn’t sure why. One minute I was upright, having just stood to bring a report to Blake, the CEO of JoXander and in the next, everything went black. Clearly, this wasn’t heaven and the concern I saw in Blake’s eyes wasn’t love or devotion.

Unrequited love was torturous. Sure, he cared for me. There must be some affection because I don’t think he’d touch me the way he did if he didn’t like me a little. But he didn’t love me. He would never love me. No, everything he had to give a woman had all been taken by his deceased wife.

My heart broke for him to have a love like he had with his wife taken away by cancer. At the same time, I was jealous of the woman who owned his heart and soul, even in death. Not meanly, my envy was tempered by my admiration for a man who could love so deeply and stay so devoted to his wife’s memory.

“Bella.” Blake’s deep voice reverberated in my chest, reminding me of the emptiness I felt even as I loved him. “Are you in pain?”

I shook my head. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what happened.” I moved to get up, but he wouldn’t let me.

“Just stay down. We’ve called for an ambulance.”

“I don’t want to go to the hospital.” I was mortified to be laying on the boardroom floor with all the important company execs staring down at me. I was an executive assistant, and my job was crucial to Blake’s success. But most of the board thought of me as a glorified secretary.

“Too bad.” He inhaled deeply, and for a moment, I thought I saw emotion in his eyes. But maybe it was my imagination or wishful thinking because I blinked and it was gone.

A few minutes later, paramedics came in and poked and prodded me while asking questions. Had I eaten? Did I have a head injury? On and on. They seemed to think I’d simply fainted, but Blake insisted they take me to the hospital.

“Bl—Mr. Alexander, really, I’m okay. I just need to rest.” I tried again to have him let me go home to regain my dignity.

Blake’s intense gaze told me I had no choice.

“It’s best to be sure,” Dana Gleason, Blake’s actual secretary said to me. “You’re too young to be passing out.” She turned to Blake. “I can go with her to the hospital, Mr. Alexander.”

I looked to him, wondering what he’d do.

He shook his head. “She’s on my time, I’ll go with her. Check with the other interns to see if they’re all right. Maybe she ate something with the others and they could be at risk too.”

“You can’t ride in the ambulance, but you can meet us at the hospital.” The EMS guy gave Blake the hospital name.

“Anything she needs, take care of it,” Blake said.

I still thought it was overkill to take me to the hospital, but I didn’t have the mental will to fight or the physical strength to get up and walk out on my own. So I let them strap me to a gurney and wheel me through the executive office to the elevator, and then out onto the street where they put me in the ambulance.

I zoned out until I was in some sort of triage area at the hospital with nurses taking over the poking, prodding, and questioning routine. They took blood and urine and then told me to wait.

It seemed like forever before a nurse came in. “Ms. Hanson, do you want us to send your father back?”

“Father?” Why would my dad be here? How would they know him? I didn’t even know him.

“He’s out in the waiting area.”

Oh, God. “That’s not my dad. That’s my boss.” I hoped they hadn’t asked him if I was his daughter. That would be a disaster.

“Do you have family we can call?”

“Am I dying?” Suddenly, I was afraid and wished my mother was still alive.

“No honey.” The nurse moved to stand closer to my bed. “It can be scary to be at the hospital so if there’s family we can call—”

“I don’t have a family.”

She gave me that expression most people did when they learned I didn’t have a family. A mixture of pity and uncertainty of how to respond. “Well, that will be changing.”
