Little did I know how much my life was about to change.

I'm about to get a second chance encounter with my celebrity crush, Asher Montgomery. Yes, the Asher Montgomery, former Let's Go member, super hot popstar-turned-actor who mysteriously doesn't make music anymore. AKA the teenage (and current - it's okay even my boyfriend knows) love of my life. I'm just praying Asher doesn't remember the last time we met when I was a shocked and shy, blabbering and incoherent mess...

Anyway, as it turns out this meeting doesn't go at all like I expected either, and after one magical day together my world is turned upside down.

My name is Elle Harris and I'm completely and totally Starstruck.

Books by Author:

Paige Laurens

Prologue

Asher Montgomery

I religiously crossed off the days on my calendar waiting for today – the day I’ll come face to face with the Asher Montgomery, the first and only love of my life.

Yes, that Asher Montgomery, the super famous popstar, and yes, of course I’m aware he’s completely unobtainable.

If you don’t know who this British-American star is, you’re not only living on another planet, but in an entirely different universe. Where have you been? Asher Montgomery is the lead singer of the boy band Let’s Go. This five-person group is made up of the hottest guys on the planet and Asher is everyone’s favorite. Let’s Go is about to release their fourth album, and even though the band is insanely busy preparing for their upcoming World Tour, Asher is currently starring in The Sound Of Music on Broadway, for one month only. My best friend, Jess, and I managed to snag tickets for today’s show, which means I’ll get to see him up close, like right in front of me close.

Hopefully.

Maybe.

If things go right.

For the first time ever I won’t be one of sixty thousand in some huge stadium arena. Today will be different.

Today I have the chance for him to see me back.

Maybe.

Hopefully.

I view it as a sign – that the show he’s starring in is The Sound Of Music. It could have been any Broadway show… but my name is Leisl (although everyone calls me Elle). I’ve grown up to The Sound Of Music, thanks to my parents, as it marks their momentous first date in which they watched the movie together… not to mention a lifelong curse of hearing, that’s a weird name, everywhere I go.

Thanks, Mom and Dad.

I swear when I have a kid one day I’m going to give him/her the most normal, boring name ever.

Jess and I skip school for about the fifth time this year (it’s okay, we’re seniors). We walk arm in arm as we rush up from the subway, taking the stairs two at a time with a palatable excitement. After all, we’ve been planning this day for months.

Pretty soon it’s easy to spot where a crowd is already waiting, anxiously hoping they’ll get to meet Asher before the show too.

It’s still early, so Jess and I grab the third spot in, right against the metal barrier, and with six hours to go, we wait.

It’s boring and cold, but I know it’ll be worth it.

Three hours later, the metal barricades have expanded. The police have arrived, and the crowd is approximately fifteen girls deep. It goes all the way back to the end of the sidewalk. It seems all of New York City has also skipped school today, just to get a glimpse of their favorite popstar. I’m positive tomorrow I’ll have a mark on my stomach from being pushed against the railing so many times, but again, I know it’ll be worth it.

By hour four I’m beginning to think Asher used some other entrance to get into the theater, and I can hear others are starting to think the same.

Another thirty minutes go by - still nothing.

I hope all this waiting is going to be worth it.

Just when I think all hope is lost, a large SUV pulls up to the curb and the air physically changes. My heart races and I can taste the excitement. I close my eyes and savor the feeling, like I’m about to enjoy the sweetest cupcake, decorated with the kind of frosting that’s laid on so perfectly, and sprinkled with those delicate multi-colored flakes – it’s the best kind of sugar rush, only this is in the form of Asher Montgomery.

Three massive security guards exit the vehicle, followed by Chad (another member of Let’s Go), and Asher’s current actress/model girlfriend (wearing the most disgusted look I’ve ever seen), and then… him.

It’s him.

Oh my god it’s him.

My eyes go wide and my hands start to shake. The crowd erupts like a boom of thunder, and then the roars fade, only I know it’s only happening in my head. In reality everyone is just as loud, but in my mind everything stills. I zone in on the paparazzi’s cameras clicking away. I make out the spots from the flashing, like a real lightening storm in front of me. It’s the best kind of whirlwind, and then it hits me, this burst of fate.

This is my moment.

My moment for what exactly I’m unsure, but I feel alive. I feel like something important is about to happen.

But crap, I can’t see him.

I’m instantly brought back to the present, surrounded by chaos, trying to get a glimpse of Asher, but I can barely make out a single thing with all that’s going on. If I stand on my tiptoes I can just make out the shade of his dark dirty blonde hair sticking out in the midst of a sea of people, and I start to panic. I didn’t wait all this time for this.

NOSTALGIA PART I

It’s been almost three years since I pulled my car into the familiar parking lot. I’ve imagined coming back so many times. I must have played out no less than five hundred scenarios on how this day would occur in my head.

None of them were like this.

I always pictured it happening on my terms, and not because Gracie forgot a term paper.

I’m not ready or prepared.

I turn off the engine, even though it’s January and I have no plans on getting out of the car anytime soon. I watch as my hot breath fills the freezing air, staring at the expansive brick high school in the background.

They changed the MTHS letters.

I liked the old ones better.

I bang my head against the steering wheel to stop the memories from flooding in. No one forgets their senior year, but shit, I’ve tried so hard to.

Maybe he won’t be here today. Possibly luck will be on my side.

I close my eyes and envision the task at hand. All I have to do is sign in, make it down a hallway to the main office, and tell them I have a paper for Gracie Cunningham, then walk back down the one hallway, sign out, and be on my way. It’s a large school, what are my odds?

I’m planning on not seeing him.

I most likely won’t see him.

At least, that’s what I told myself this morning when I received Gracie’s text and rolled out of bed at 11 (gotta love the life of a college student). I threw on a pair of sweatpants, a bra, my t-shirt that says ‘so fancy’, and boots. Although, maybe it was a bad sign when I opened my bedroom door and the house alarm started blaring.

Dad forgot I was home on winter break. He does this every time.

I immediately tied my newly blond highlighted hair into a messy ponytail and ran to the front door to shut it off, just like I’ve had to do all week. That damn high pitch shrill nearly giving me a heart attack.

My hands start to shake as I lift my head and stare at my pale face in the rearview mirror. I didn’t bother with makeup today, and a memory pushes its way forward in my mind - he calls me beautiful. I attempt to will the flashback away, grabbing onto my sweatpants, but another one forces its way in. I’m in sweatpants, and we’re kissing, touching each other for the very first time.

No, this can’t happen! They’ve gone away!

I open the car door in a hurry and jump out, heaving. The cool air rushes up my nose and into my mouth, causing my eyes to sting, but the pain feels good.

It’s all I’ve known these past few years.

Get it together!

My phone dings and I look back into the car, watching as it lights up in the center console. It’s Gracie. She wonders why she hasn’t been called to the office yet.

Oh, the mindset of a high school senior, when the most horrible thing in life is not turning in a paper on time. I wonder if she realizes what an amazing sister coming here makes me?

She most likely does.

She’s the only one who knows what happened.

Walking towards the large front doors of the high school does weird things to me. There are far too many past moments floating around now, confusing me.

It’s hard to hate someone you love, and damn it if the stinging in my eyes doesn’t go away! I’ve gotten myself under control as time has passed, but it’s the familiar surroundings all around me now that are screwing with me.

The coldness of the metal door handle shocks me back to life, and I fumble through my purse for my license as I approach the makeshift sign in table. I end up not needing it though. The lady remembers me from my time here. Great.

I sign my name as she asks how I’ve been and where I’m going to school. I want to tell her not the same, and it doesn’t matter, but I’m much more pleasant than that. She hands me a white name sticker that I place on my shirt, and I immediately start down the hallway, past the library, and force myself not to look down any of the other corridors. If I continue to stare straight ahead I can’t see what (or who, really) may be down them.

It’s safer that way.

The smell is exactly the same, as is the eerie quietness of the school while classes are in session.

I used to love it all.

Thankfully, I make it to the main office unscathed, and hand over Gracie’s paper. I’m starting to relax now that my task is halfway over.

I can do this.

The lady behind the desk is making small talk, and I give her quick answers, not wanting to waste any time - easy in and easy out.

Luci Cunningham had a heart-wrenching affair with her high school chemistry teacher. Beautiful Torment told the story, ending with Luci, now a college senior home on winter break, bringing her sister a paper she forgot at home. Walking through the doors of her old high school is jarring, especially now that she's only finally starting to overcome her broken heart. The last thing she told Josh Harrington was to never speak to her again, so when she runs into him in the hallway, she's caught off guard. Sparks fly, but it's probably just old feelings resurfacing. Luci is still furious with his past lies and deceit, but he surprisingly asks her out on a date - the one thing she wanted throughout her senior year of high school. She's someone new, and the pain Josh inflicted remains in the forefront of her mind. However, Mr. Harrington doesn't take no for an answer, and we soon learn he is dead set on winning her back, no matter the cost. But, can Luci forgive? Find out what happens in Beautiful Dream, which picks up the day after Beautiful Torment ends.
This book is part of a series, therefore, you should read Beautiful Torment (which is the first book), prior to reading this one.
Warning: This book contains explicit language, sex scenes, and is intended for ages 18 and up.
-Luci-

If you can wear stockings, and within ten minutes not rip them, then you’re my hero. Personally, I can’t do it. They always tear!

I throw my latest nylon victim off to the side, before sliding into another pair - the very last pair I own, mind you. I zip up my boots (again), and give myself a once over in the mirror. My hands shake as I tug down on my almost short brown dress, before hooking the buckle in the middle. My hands travel up, pulling on the sleeves, until they are brushing through my newly blonde highlighted brown hair, placing it back into the ponytail I just took it out of.

Maybe I should put on more blush, or less lipstick, or maybe a different shade all together? Or, hell, maybe I should change into something else entirely? Actually, now that I’m really looking, I think my hair looked better down.

I undo the ponytail as I glance towards my bed, or in the general direction of it. I can’t really see it with the pile of clothes on top. The blue digits on the clock catch my eye. It’s dangerously close to 6:30, and I have to get a move on or I’ll be late, and I hate being late.

I linger for another few seconds, debating, thinking, well aware that this is possibly the best and worst thing I’m about to go do. I wonder, for the umpteenth time since yesterday, if I should cancel, but my feet start moving, making me leave my bedroom before I gain any sense of rational.

“Luci!” Mom’s shout takes me out of my dream-like, reflective state.

“Yeah?” I make my way down the hallway, towards the upstairs landing.

“Oh!” She exclaims when I come into view, surprised to see me all dressed up. “You look nice!” Her smile reaches her eyes and it lights up her face. “Where are you off to?”

“Um,” I hesitate, descending the stairs. “I’m going out with an old friend.”

I’m not about to tell her the truth now, two and a half years later. Or, make that ever. I can’t ever tell her the truth.

“A friend,” she repeats, still smiling.

No, Mom, I think. I’m going out on a date. Nope, not with my current boyfriend from school in Boston, who’s away while we’re on winter break, but with my once high school chemistry teacher. Yes, the one I secretly had sex with on a daily basis throughout senior year. The one who broke my heart so badly it left you and Dad thinking the worst. Yep, that very one!

“Luci?” Mom waves her hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my daze.

Stupid Josh Harrington.

“Yeah, sorry,” I mumble. She’s not too taken aback, and for the first time in what seems like forever, she’s actually happy and relaxed as she regards me. It’s probably from seeing me giddy, ready to go out, and not sitting locked in my room like I usually am. I’m sure she’s pleased that I’m doing something normal, like the old me would.

I’m growing back into her, slowly.

“Well, have a good time with your friend that has you getting dressed so beautifully,” she smiles, and I start for the door. “And call if you’re going to be after 11, just so I don’t worry.” I nod, grabbing my coat and bracing myself for the freezing late January air.

My car rumbles to life as I back out of the driveway, and I grab onto the steering wheel tighter than usual, my head spinning and heart swelling.

I’m about to see him. The one person I never wanted to see again. The only person I’d ever hope to see again. The one who broke my heart when I found out he was married, and his wife about to have a baby.

I told him to never speak to me again. That was the last thing I said to him, until yesterday. Yesterday, my sister Gracie had me drop off a paper she left home, and out of all the many people at the high school, I see him.

I should’ve said no when he asked to get together tonight, but I was so stunned by our sudden encounter that I couldn’t get a damn word out. He always had a way of rendering me speechless, and clearly that hasn’t changed.

Of course, I’m mad at myself for agreeing to this. I really should’ve said no. I should have told him how I’ve moved on, and that I’m seeing someone now.

Well, sort of.

Nevertheless, I should have thought about this new guy, and I curse him yet again for always taking up so much of me. My life is finally getting back on track, and how dare he mess it up again! I won’t let him, and I refuse to think back to last night, how all I could do was replay his words in my head.
