I did a teeny, tiny bad thing for a very good reason.

Lauren

When I heard my aunt was about to lose her home, I couldn’t just sit by. I had to do something. So, I started a fundraiser inviting people to cuddle a cowboy and well, it kind of went viral.

Now, women are bidding on these big, bearded cowboys who are grumpy and scowling. But the grumpiest one is Bronco. He’s my brother’s best friend, and he’s furious with me for using his farm this way.

I should probably tell him that I got the winning bid on him.

Bronco

This cowboy wants to cuddle. Problem is, the only one I want to cuddle is my best friend’s little sister. She’s sunshine and sweetness and temptation rolled into one vintage vixen.

When I told her to use the farm as a fundraiser, I had no idea she’d be putting me on the auction block.

Now, it’s time for this cowboy to put his boot down and show Lauren that she’s the one who belongs in his arms.

If you love a gruff cowboy who will do anything to make his curvy woman smile, then climb onto Bronco’s horse. It’s going to be a wild ride, but you’ll ache in the best way.

This is a steamy cowboy rom com with plenty of on-page spice between a gruff cowboy and his curvy woman set in the welcoming, small town of Courage County. If that sounds like your kind of story, click to read now

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Lauren

I read a statistic that said if you have one person you can call in the middle of the night who will drop everything to come help you, then you should count yourself lucky. Well, I guess I’m doubly lucky because my person also happens to be a cranky cowboy with a heart of pure gold.

“Hey, sweetheart.” The moment, I hear my brother’s best friend’s voice some of the tension bleeds from my shoulders. He is the cranky cowboy. He’s cranky with everyone. Except me.

I stare at my bedroom wall where the water spot grows bigger by the second, a distinct rushing sound behind it. I whisper into the phone, “I need you.”

“I’m on the way.”

It’s two in the morning. He doesn’t sound all that awake, but his tone is gentle. It could make a girl think she were special to him if she were foolish enough to believe in such things. “I’m sorry to wake you.”

“Wasn’t sleeping anyway,” he answers as if I can’t read the lie in his rumbly voice. Still, it makes me feel better that he’s trying to make me feel better. Bronco has been like this as long as I’ve known him, though I’ve only known him for a few years.

He and my brother, Vale, became best friends when they were serving in the Marines together. They were supposed to come home and start a ranch for veterans, a place where guys returning from combat could transition back to civilian life.

Except that only one of them came home.

Now, Bronco looks after me because I’m his responsibility. The little sister he inherited from Vale. Problem is, I’ve never once looked at Bronco and thought of him as a big brother. I’ve always thought of him as a man—a big, gruff man with eyes that are stormy blue and a bushy beard I want to touch.

I listen to the sound of his quiet breathing and the rustle of clothes as he pulls them on. Does Bronco sleep naked? Is that a normal thing to wonder about your brother’s best friend? Somehow, I don’t think it is.

I wish things were different between us. I wish he’d want me back. I wish he’d take me in his arms and kiss me until I can’t think anymore. But if I can’t have that, then I wish I didn’t think of him at all. I wish I could be content, happy even, with his begrudging friendship.

Instead, I’m stuck with a helpless crush that I’ve never been able to shake. I guess, it’s my fault really. When Vale told me about Staff Sergeant Hayes, a gruff loner with no family of his own, something in my heart hurt.

I hated the idea that there was a man out there, willing to give everything to protect his men and no one was looking out for him.

After that, when I sent care packages to Vale, I included little treats for Bronco. He never said thank you or acknowledged a thing I did. But I knew it mattered. I knew it in the way that only someone who’s been abandoned too could know it.

“Tell me something,” he says, and I hear the truck door slam. He’s on the way. Help is on the way. Tears prick at my eyes when the thought comes, and I have to blink them back. Bronco doesn’t know how bad things are here. No one does.

I haven’t told him because it’s not his mess. This is my mess. I made it. I have to figure out how to clean it up. Except that I’ve never been so scared in my life, and I’m terrified that the people I care most about are going to pay for it.

“Like w-what?” I ask, stalling for time.

“A favorite memory,” he answers easily. “What’s one of your favorite memories?”

It only takes me a moment to think of one. “There used to be a magnolia tree on the property. It was the first thing I noticed the day my mom aban—dropped me and Vale off here.”

I’m not sure how much of our past Vale told Bronco. I don’t guess it matters. A lot of kids are abandoned by their drug addicted mom. Most kids just aren’t abandoned by their mom at a retirement community.

My Aunt Elaine is the director of the Wildflower Retirement Community. She didn’t blink or hesitate when my mom left the two of us on her doorstep. She hugged both me and Vale, gave us her trademark sunny smile, and promised that things were going to be all right.

Because of her, I grew up in this retirement home. I spent my days running the halls and doing craft time with the seniors. It was like having a big extended family filled with dozens and dozens of grandparents. Most of them doted on us, and very few complained about the noise we made. Instead, we were embraced as part of the community.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Ford

There are three things a real man never does:

He never makes his mama cry.

He never betrays his brothers-in-arms.

He never grabs his curvy little assistant and kisses her until she’s breathless.

Of them all, I’ve only ever been tempted to do the third, and that’s because of my assistant. She’s out-of-this-world beautiful with a sassy mouth that keeps me on my toes.

When the day’s flashbacks finally fade into nightmares that wreck my sleep and force me from bed in a cold sweat, it’s her voice I want to hear. But it’s the middle of the night, so I reach for the answering machine in my living room.

With the quick press of a few buttons, the messages start. I’ve hoarded all of them since she started working for me six months ago.

Nothing in her voicemails is explicit or even all that interesting. But there’s something about the sound of her breathy voice that soothes the jagged, broken pieces of my soul.

I play them, listening as she tells me that the security plan needs to be reviewed or her gentle reminder that the latest contract is due to be signed in less than a week.

As she talks, I start my grueling workout routine. I need a way to burn off this energy. I’m not supposed to see her for a few more days, not until after Christmas.

For a moment, I wonder what it would be like to spend the holidays with her. Would she snuggle up next to me on my sofa, sipping coffee and lighting me up with that adorable giggle she has? When the nightmares are bad, would she let me crush her against my chest and hold her until I remember that I’m not in a war zone anymore?

“Stupid fucker,” I chastise myself out loud. She wouldn’t want to be with me. I’m too old, too grizzled for a sweet thing like her.

As it is, driving up to my cabin to deliver paperwork every week is probably her least favorite activity. I bet she dreads doing it. The thought puts a knot in my chest, and I pause my workout long enough to rub the sore area.

I’d stopped feeling anything at all. Then six months ago, she showed up when I told my buddy I needed an assistant to handle the business side of my security consulting. She was bright-eyed and beautiful and so eager to help. I couldn’t say no. Didn’t realize how much she’d come to haunt my thoughts.

My phone rings, and I snatch it from the cradle. I don’t have a cellphone. I gave up on technology when I was medically discharged from the service and moved to my cabin.

I grunt out a greeting, already knowing it’s my brother. Hunter is a writer. He writes something called romantic suspense. I don’t know much about the genre, but I usually give him advice on fight scenes and talk to him about the weapons his hero would be likely to use.

“I’ve written myself into a corner. The hero is on the run from ninja assassins, and he’s just seduced the heroine. They’re getting hot and heavy when the front door is blown off the hinges, and they’re both taken hostage.”

“I’m not sure that stopping to fuck while running from–what was it again?” I search my tired brain, trying to remember what Hunter said his characters were running from.

The names change with every book, but I swear he only writes the same three basic plots. He says it’s intentional and part of the appeal of the romance genre is the formula.

Never mind how often I point out that if it were a real-life mission, his heroes would have already been shot in the back of the head. Guess that part isn’t romantic, and that’s why I’m not the writer in the family.

“Ninja assassins,” he answers as though that’s a perfectly valid career path and not at all something he probably made up on the spot. Why does he always have these plot problems at three in the morning?

“Yeah, I just don’t see the hero stopping to fuck her if they’re on the run from ninja assassins,” I answer. I’ve been on dozens of combat missions in my life and never once was I thinking about sex while on them.

“Not even if she’s super hot and looks kind of like that cute little assistant of yours? What’s her name again?”

I growl as something primal and possessive rises up in me. She’s not for another man to appreciate or even look at. “Joy is not your damn concern. You keep your eyes to your fuckin’ self.”

He chuckles. The bastard actually chuckles, and that’s when I realize I’ve been had. He’s been after me to talk to Joy for months now. Joy Jolly, with her cute name and sunshine personality.

“I thought you needed my help with a question about his Glock,” I gripe before I launch into a description of the weapon. We spend the next hour talking about weapons and entry points before there’s finally a beep. My heart nearly stops in my chest. She doesn’t normally call me this early.
For Christmas, I got stranded on the side of the road. While wearing the world’s most ridiculous elf costume. But the gruff, bearded lumberjack who rescued me might just be the perfect gift.

Holly

You’re not supposed to accept rides from strangers. But I’m not turning down a warm truck and a stranger with kind eyes when I’m stranded in the middle of a snowstorm with nowhere to go.

I need a place to lay my head tonight, and this mountain man seems nice enough. Besides, I have my protective dog with me.

What I don’t expect is for the snowstorm to last so long or for this grumpy lumberjack to be so sweet. But when the snow eases, I’m not so sure I can leave. I think I found forever right here in this cozy cabin.

Hunter

You’re not supposed to pick up strangers on the side of the road. But no one ever said that I couldn’t pick up a stranded Christmas elf. Cute little thing is nearly frozen to death along with that beast beside her.

She’s on her way through town. She’s just stopping by. Problem is, I can’t get her down my mountain until the snow stops falling. Not that it matters. I can’t promise I’m going to let her go.

Nope, I might just have to keep this little elf all to myself. She’s definitely the sweetest Christmas gift I’ve ever gotten, and I plan to make this the best holiday she’s ever had.

If you love a possessive, jealous mountain man who is sweeter than hot cocoa and knows exactly how to spoil his curvy woman, then it’s time to meet Hunter in The Mountain Man’s Christmas Elf. This holiday love story is a stand-alone romance set in Mia Brody’s Courage County which is the perfect place to find your next book boyfriend!

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Hunter

“I’m not sure that stopping to fuck while running from–what was it again?” Ford, my brother, pauses to ask. I can hear him panting in the background. He’s working out, doing his endless crunches because the man doesn’t have an appreciation for carbs the way I do.

“Ninja assassins,” I answer as I wait for my aging coffee pot to brew. I stifle a yawn. It’s three in the morning.

When I realized how bad his insomnia was from the combat missions, I suddenly developed plot problems for my books in the wee hours. He doesn’t know that I set an alarm clock in the middle of the night so I can call. If it keeps the nightmares and flashbacks at bay for him, I’ll do it.

“Yeah, I just don’t see the hero stopping to fuck her if they’re on the run from ninja assassins,” he finishes completely serious. He knows I’m a best-selling author of dozens of romantic suspense books.

Most readers don’t know that Eva Nightshade, who writes scorching hot romance books, also happens to be a man.

“Not even if she’s super hot and looks kind of like that cute little assistant of yours? What’s her name again?” I shouldn’t needle the bastard.

He growls and lets loose with a string of profanities. “Joy is not your damn concern. You keep your eyes to your fuckin’ self.”

I chuckle, and he swears again. I’ve been after him for months now to talk to his assistant and tell her how he feels. But Mr. Stoic Military Man can’t admit he wants her.

“I thought you needed my help with a question about his Glock,” he grits out, and I hear him adjusting his landline. He won’t even get a cellphone because he hates people that much. “Otherwise, I have things to do.”

“Are you coming to help me board up Mom’s place?” I ask, taking the hint that he needs the subject changed.

“The snowstorm isn’t supposed to hit for a few more days,” he answers. He doesn’t follow the news, so I’m not surprised he doesn’t know about the changed forecast.

“It’s coming faster than they think. Maybe you should see if you can get Joy to visit today. Might do you good to spend Christmas with someone else,” I tell him because I know there’s no way he’s coming to celebrate Christmas with the rest of the family.

Ford isn’t the same guy who left for the military years ago. He was always quiet and withdrawn, but the things he saw changed him. I miss him, the person he used to be.

“I’m going to get Mom squared away,” I say. I sent her a text message last night to let her know I’d be there around midday to help her close her grocery store. I don’t need help from Ford, but I let the invitation hang, unspoken.

“Sounds good. Now about that Glock…” he says before launching into a long discussion about the hero’s weapon of choice. He doesn’t know I already know what he’s telling me. I have countless research and reference books related to military history, weapons, tactical gear, fight moves, and more.

Still, I listen for a solid hour like this is new information. Occasionally, I pause to ask a question but mainly, I listen. Because getting Ford to talk about anything is nearly impossible. By the time we end the call, I have a page of new notes and ideas for how to write the fight scene.

“They’re still going to have sex first,” I tell Ford.

He chuckles, a rusty noise that sounds unfamiliar. “You need to stop writing about other people getting laid and meet a woman of your own.”

“Can’t. Too many deadlines,” I answer rather than tell him I’ve tried online dating a couple of times. Turns out, I’m much better behind a screen than I am in person. No surprise there.

“I’ve got a call waiting. Gotta go,” Ford says. Besides me, there’s no one he talks to other than his assistant. Maybe one of these days, he’ll grab his balls and go for it with her. Fuck, I hope so. He deserves a little bit of happiness.

I end the call just as the first ribbons of daylight are starting to show outside. I finish my third cup of coffee and shuffle into the sunroom where my boys are. These mangy guys are my people. Unlike humans, they don’t judge me for being awkward as hell sometimes.

“Who needs a girl? I got y’all,” I mutter to myself as Leonardo, my German shepherd, nudges my hand with what I imagine to be affection.

I give him some cuddles before reaching for Donatello’s wheelchair. He’s a red Dachshund with a braying bark and endless enthusiasm for exploring.

I didn’t know they made mobility aids for dogs until I met Donny. His previous family didn’t want him when the disc disease caused his paralysis and incontinence. They surrendered him like he was disposable. Just thinking about it has me fuming again.
Saddle up, Santa is wearing a Stetson this year, and he's got a big present for all you good girls!

Callie

I'm down on my luck this year, but it looks like things are finally turning around. I just got hired as the new baker at the Naughty List Ranch, and the job includes room and board.

As a single mom with a young son, it feels like a Christmas miracle. Until my car won't start. I send a panicked text message to my new boss who assures me help is on the way.

Then cowboy Santa shows up dressed in red flannel and whistling holiday tunes under his breath. Is it possible that good things do come to those who bake?

Nate

I'm a lonely cowboy working myself to the bone, and I'm not so sure there's any holiday magic left for me. But when my folks call and ask me to pick up a stranded single mom and her cute little elf, I can't say no.

I didn't count on how sweet the curvy baker would be or how much I'd want to claim her for my own. Now, I'm stealing kisses in the kitchen while she's baking spirits bright. I'm falling hard for my Christmas miracle, but she thinks this is just a fling. Can I convince her that Christmas wishes really do come true?

If you love cocoa, cookies, and cozy romance, it's time to meet Nate in Her Cowboy Santa. He's a jolly cowboy who is determined to claim the shy single mom in this steamy holiday romance novella. Set in Courage County and Havenstone, Montana, you're sure to fall for these charming small towns where big, bearded cowboys fall first and forever

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Nate

“Give it a try now,” I tell Ledger Kringle, heir to the Kringle Christmas Tree Ranch here in Courage County, North Carolina. It’s the kind of place that crowds come during November and December to get a homegrown Christmas tree. The whole Kringle family goes all out for the holiday season.

He cranks the tractor, but nothing happens. It’s this little tractor decorated to look like a train engine that transports guests around the ranch. The kids love the Christmas train tour, their eyes growing big and excited when they see it.

I study underneath the hood again. I’m usually good at fixing things, especially things that break down. But I’ve never had any experience working with this particular model, so it’s taking me longer than usual to figure out what the problem is.

The wind blows, howling and cold, promising snow later this evening. If we can’t get this fixed soon, Ledger and his brothers won’t be able to do their usual tours.

Before I can move onto the next possible solution, Peyton bustles into the cold barn. She’s Ledger’s wife and one heck of a businesswoman. She’s taken Liquid Courage, our local bar, and turned it into one of the best restaurants in the state.

“I made cookies,” Peyton calls, all buttoned up in her coat that’s brown with white trim, almost as if she’s baked so many gingerbread people that she’s in danger of becoming one herself.

Ledger clambers down from the tractor in less time than it takes a heart to beat. He accepts one of the cookies from his wife and bites into it, giving her a delighted smile.

“Still warm from the oven.” She passes him a thermos of coffee.

I duck my head and look back at the tractor, unable to take the sweetness and the innocence of the moment. I almost had that once. Three years ago, I could have sworn that by this point I’d be married with a couple of rugrats of my own running around underneath my feet.

But that never happened. I push back the familiar pain and despair, the reminder that I am alone in the world.

My phone rings, and I quickly check the screen. It’s Mary from the Naughty List Ranch in Montana. I stayed at that ranch years ago when I was a young boy on the wrong path.

Mary and Christopher Maas saved my life, and I don’t know if they know it. I silence the call, figuring I’ll return hers later. Right now, I have a tractor to fix, so I can get away and lick my wounds in peace.

“Give it another try,” I tell Ledger, who is happily kissing his wife. He pulls away from her reluctantly. The tractor rumbles to life. This old workhorse has returned.

Peyton gives me a soft smile. “You saved Christmas.”

“No big deal,” I tell her, wiping my grease-covered hands on a rag.

“You should stay for dinner,” she says enthusiastically. I shake my head before Ledger can second the invitation.

“Well, at least take some gingerbread men with you,” she says, pushing a plate of the warm cookies toward me.

Rudolph, my giant chocolate Labrador Retriever, tries to sniff the plate. I hold it out of his reach, calling his name in a soft warning. He makes a whimper but takes a seat, licking his lips as he does.
My rental cabin is beautiful, remote, and close to nature. Too bad the listing didn’t mention the place also comes with a giant, grumpy mountain man.

Sophie

My short-term rental is a cozy cabin tucked away deep in the mountains of Courage County. It comes with a stunning view of the mountain ridge, acres of beautiful forest to hike, and a very grumpy mountain man of my own to explore.

I wasn’t expecting the quiet mountain man with the steely gaze and brooding demeanor. He claims this is his cabin, and he swears he didn’t rent it to me. But he’s not making me leave. I already paid my deposit.

Even when he starts playing ridiculous pranks on me in an effort to scare me off, I refuse to go. If anything, I have a few tricks for him.

Whiskey

I don’t care about her rental agreement. I never wanted a roommate. I certainly never put up my cabin for rent. But the stubborn curvy girl has no intention of leaving, not even when I offer to pay for her lodging elsewhere.

This little ball of sunshine is determined to stay right by my side. That’s just fine by me. I’ll figure out a way to make her leave. One way or another, I’ll convince her that this cabin is haunted. She’ll run screaming back home in no time.

I’m definitely not going to kiss her in front of the fire or start wishing she’d stay forever. Things like that aren’t meant for brooding mountain men like me.

If you love a holiday romance that’s sweeter than a candy apple with a melt-in-your-mouth alpha who says the filthiest things, it’s time to meet Whiskey in The Mountain Man’s Sweet Treat. This Halloween love story is a stand-alone romance set in Mia Brody’s Courage County which is the perfect place to find your next book boyfriend!

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Sophie

Golden sunlight slants through the red leaves of the Maple trees lining Main Street in Courage County. Pumpkins, decorative scarecrows, and hay bales dot the store front displays, showcasing a small town that embraces autumn like a dear friend.

My mom would say the only thing missing from the idyllic scene is a few hungry zombies and some rotting corpses. She films the zombie show. Yeah, the one that became a breakout hit two years ago.

She’ll be calling in a little while, probably to tell me about the tensions that are running high with the cast and how the new makeup artist isn’t nearly as good as me. That’s a lie, and we both know it. I was good at my job. But one day, I walked off the set that felt like a second home and never came back.

Shaking off the memories, I park my car in the lot for Emma May’s Groceries. Tobias meows softly as if to remind me that he’s still in his travel carrier. He’s only a few months old, and he’s endlessly curious about the world.

“Just be patient a little while longer, and we’ll have a yummy dinner,” I promise him. I’ve already stopped twice to let him stretch his furry little legs for a few minutes at a time. He’s so little and traveling a long distance must seem scary to him.

When I step onto the cracked asphalt with its faded white lines, my hips and back protest from the long hours. I’ll be at my destination soon—a beautiful cabin tucked away in the mountains of this tiny town.

I hurry into the grocery store past a group of old men sitting on benches. They’re telling each other tall tales. They barely spare me a glance even though I’m waddling like a pregnant lady because my bladder is so full. I definitely should have skipped the jumbo drink at the last gas station.

After I use the restroom, I grab a shopping cart to fill with essentials and cat food. I never imagined that such a beautiful place in my budget would come available for a month. When it did, I knew I had to act quickly.

I nod to several locals who eye me curiously including two women who are leaning in close to each other to discuss a cowboy who swept a curvy woman that lives here off her feet. Literally.

I barely suppress my smile at their gossip as I turn down an aisle. A display of candy corn has me wishing I could go back in time. When I was with my mom on the set, we would always do a big Halloween party at the end of the month. The entire cast would spend October competing to see who could come up with the scariest pranks.

“Can I help you find anything?” A grandmotherly looking woman with a silver braid down her back asks me. She peers over the rim of her bifocals, taking in my thigh-high black boots, plaid mini-skirt and purple corset layered underneath a faux leather jacket.

I used dress differently, back when I cared what people thought about my plus-size body with my cellulite and curves. Now, I just dress in a way that makes me feel happy and confident. If someone doesn’t like how I look, that’s their problem.

I shake my head, not trusting myself to speak without crying. Some days, I think I’m doing OK. I think I’m getting stronger then moments like this happen, and I doubt I’ve made any progress at all on my journey.

Her smile is warm and genuine with no judgement in her tone. “You look a little lost.”

That’s the understatement of the century, but I can’t tell a perfect stranger that. Instead, I tell her, “I’m new to town.”

“Well, I’m old to town. Been here all my life. Raised half of these youngin’s myself. Now, where are you staying? The Andersons should have an empty room this time of year. But if they don’t, you just call me. I’ll make sure you get put up somewhere. I’m Emma May, by the way.” She reaches into her apple red apron and pulls out her phone.

“I’m renting a cabin. Actually, it’s in the mountains here,” I say, grabbing my phone automatically.

“Well, if you run into any problems or need anything, you call me,” she insists as if she’s my friend and not a stranger that I just met.

I know I won’t reach out. Still, when she rattles off her digits, I put them in my phone.

I assume that’s the end of our conversation, and I push my cart down the aisle. But to my surprise, Emma May falls into step beside me as if she senses I need a friend right now. She asks me questions and nods along patiently, listening as I explain I’m here to train for an upcoming 5K race in Asheville. It will be my first, but I don’t tell her that part.
Help! I’m stuck for the night with the grumpy cowboy that has a dirty mouth and a touch that ignites my body…

Jenna

It was supposed to be a simple delivery for my father. I’d hoped to avoid Walker Hale. He’s a grumpy cowboy, probably the grumpiest one in Courage County. He’s annoying and bossy and so hot.

When a storm leaves us stranded together, I’m stuck with the cowboy who fuels my dirtiest fantasies. Turns out, he’s even better with his hands than I imagined.

But then the storm ends, and morning comes. It’s for the best. Hot grumpy cowboys don’t want hot messes like me…right?

Walker

I’ve tried to do the right thing and ignore the beautiful college student that keeps showing up at my ranch with deliveries. She’s young and innocent with curves for days. I’m just a washed-up rodeo cowboy with a dirty mind.

But when we’re stranded together in my house for the night, I can no longer fight my feelings. It’s time to lasso her heart and claim my curvy woman. Because this cowboy wants forever.

If you love ott alpha cowboys and steamy make out scenes, then it’s time to meet Walker in Her Grumpy Cowboy. It’s a stand-alone romance set in Mia Brody’s Courage County which is the perfect place to find your next book boyfriend!

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

Jenna

Thunder rolls distantly in the background and I pause what I’m doing, feeling the familiar flash of fear. I keep telling myself it’s ridiculous to be afraid of them. But that doesn’t change the churning in my gut.

I glance at the sky through the window of Courage County Feed & Seed. Yeah, it’s a terribly original name for a store that serves the ranching community of Courage County. But this place is home now that I’ve flunked out of college, once again disappointing my father.

“Jenna, where are ya?” My dad ambles in that way he does when his back has been bothering him. The doctor told him two years ago he needed surgery, and he keeps putting it off.

While I wait for him, I glance at the order form I’m trying to read. It’s not easy when all the letters jump and shimmer on the page.

The dyslexia diagnosis last year was almost a relief. Turns out I’m not stupid and lazy like my dad has always insisted I am. My brain just works differently than his. Not that I’d ever tell him that. He’s too set in his ways.

“I’m over here,” I call from my place at the register. I wish my friend Mallory still worked here. She helped me to make sense of the orders. She never laughed at me or acted like I was dumb. But she married River Scott, a hot cowboy with a baby. Now she’s starting her own clothing boutique in town.

“Just got an order in from Walker. He needs more horse feed,” dad announces, reeking of alcohol. It might be the middle of the day but that doesn’t mean anything to him. It’s always beer o’clock somewhere. He scowls at me. “Well…?”

Dad doesn’t care much for Walker, the brooding cowboy that’s a former roughstock rider. The man rode actual bulls, which is pretty hot if you ask me.

He’s got a deep brown gaze and a thick beard. He doesn’t say much whenever I talk to him. He mainly just grunts so I know he doesn’t like me. But a girl can still dream about those rough hands and that deep, gritty voice. Sometimes, I even touch myself imagining what it must sound like when he’s buried deep inside me. Like he’d ever want to do that with me. I’m a curvy woman and a college dropout that can barely string together a sentence when I’m in his presence.

My dad stands there, waiting for a long moment. He’s hoping I’ll volunteer to do it and normally I would. But ever since the accident, I hate driving in thunderstorms. The sky rumbles again, as if confirming to me that volunteering would be a terrible idea.

Still, when my dad shuffles off, I find myself saying, “Wait, I’ll go. But you have to promise me something.”

He pauses and turns to me, irritation already forming on his face. Just once I wish he’d look at me and smile. But since I know that isn’t going to happen, I swallow and say, “Do your stretches.”

I call them stretches for his back. Actually, it’s yoga positions that will take some of the pressure off his spine. But I can’t tell him that. He thinks it’s “hippy dippy shit” to practice yoga.

“Walker needs twelve bags of the stuff,” dad answers. He gestures on his fingers with a one then a two, like I’m stupid.

I fight a hot flush of anger. I want to yell at him and tell him I’m not. I want to tell him I didn’t ask to be different. But I’m afraid of what he might say in response. Instead, I swallow down the words that burn like acid in my throat. “I’ll be back soon.”

It only takes a few minutes for me to get the feed loaded. I miss having Mallory nearby to chat with me. Maybe I’ll call her later this week and see if she wants to go to Courage Cookies and have coffee together.

I pop back into the store one more time before I leave to see my father helping a farmer choose between two types of chicken feed. “I’m about to head out. Anything you need while I’m gone?”

He looks up from his customer. “Don’t be underfoot and don’t cause any trouble.”

Just like that I’m dismissed.

While I’m in the truck, thunder continues to roll so I turn the radio to a country station and let it play the top hits. This works to distract me for a little while, at least until I come to the covered bridge over the creek. It’s not really a creek. It’s more of a river but the old-timers call it a creek so that’s what most of us refer to it as.

As soon as I cross the water, I’ll be on Walker’s land. The thought sends a little thrill through me even as I slow the vehicle. I eye the banks carefully. The creek is known to flood when it rains but it hasn’t started yet. Everything looks fine so I guide the truck across the bridge.
Her cowboy stalker is the only one who can keep this single mom and her baby safe.

Missy

As a single mom, I’m used to doing what it takes to survive. When I land in Courage County, I’m fortunate to get a job waiting tables at the local diner. That’s where I meet him. The deputy with a deep brown gaze and charming smile.

He gives me a ride and after that, everything changes. He follows me home every night. He watches me from the shadows. He stands guard while my daughter and I sleep.

He thinks I don’t know it’s him. But I have a secret. Something I can never tell my cowboy stalker.

Griffin

Missy is the new single mom in town. She’s bubbly and sweet with a smile that lights up my heart. But one look at her, and I know she’s carrying secrets.

Some would call what I’m doing stalking. They would say I’m crossing the line. But I took an oath. I made a vow the day I met Missy and her daughter. Whatever it takes, they will be safe.

If you love obsessed stalker romances with a protective cowboy who defends his curvy woman, then it’s time to meet Deputy Griffin. He’s extra swoony!

Cowboy Stalker is a standalone romance with no cheating and no cliffhangers. It’s set in Mia Brody’s Courage County universe, which is the perfect place to meet your next book boyfriend

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Missy

I move the sticky plates to my round serving tray, loading it efficiently as the jukebox in the corner plays an old country song about a man walking a line for his true love. I hum along to it under my breath. Around me, the last few regulars are yawning and splitting their bills.

Hurrying to the kitchen, I add the plates to the sink and glance at the baby monitor.

Ernie, the cook, sees where my attention is and gives me a wink. “Still sleeping like a baby. Here, take a bite.” He nudges a plate with a monster burger already prepared the way I like it. Thanks to him, I never have to worry about packing lunch or dinner.

I was down on my luck and down to my last dollar when I stopped at Ernie’s Diner here in Courage County.

Ernie and Lorna, the owners of the best burger joint in three counties, gave me a job on the spot. They didn’t ask for references or what a single mom with a baby was doing out so late.

They helped me get a little rental property at the edge of town. It seems like something is finally going right for me, but I learned a long time ago not to trust anything good.

I manage three bites before I start unloading the industrial dishwasher. The day has been crazy. Now it’s evening, and I’m realizing how hungry I am.

“Missy, dear, can you get table fourteen for me?” Lorna comes bustling in the back with a stack of her own dishes. She sets them down and gives her husband a peck on the cheek. They must have married a long time ago. They’re so fluid in their movements, so quick to slide around each other like their time in the kitchen is a carefully choreographed dance.

I nod and take another bite of my greasy burger before grabbing the pitcher of sweet tea. The locals here are obsessed with Lorna’s tea. I’ve met most of them over the last three weeks. Everyone seems kind and friendly. If I were going to stay forever, Courage County is the kind of place I’d pick. But I’m not likely to be here forever.

Shelley made sure of that. I feel a rush of anger toward her even though I know it’s irrational. She’s dead, and I don’t think she meant to leave me with the mess she made.

I bustle out of the kitchen and toward table fourteen. It’s a booth, tucked next to the big, picturesque window. I’m so focused on my mission that I don’t notice the puddle of water on the checkerboard tile until it’s too late.

Before I can slow, my feet are sliding out from underneath me. My secondhand soles have no traction on the wet floor. Sweet tea slops over the top of the pitcher and covers my arm in sticky liquid. I tighten my grip and brace to fall backward.

But strong hands wrap around my waist. The impact I’ve braced for never happens. I clutch a fistful of flannel in my hand and look into the eyes of a cowboy with a chocolate brown gaze.

There’s something deep and soulful about his gaze. With his hands on my hips and our bodies so close, I can feel his heat. I’ve never felt so safe or so peaceful. For a second, I feel like I’ve found home.

His jaw is covered in a thick, bushy beard I want to touch. I want to know if it’s soft like I’m thinking it is. His full, thick lips with the perfect Cupid’s bow curve into a smile, revealing one crooked tooth. “Hi, beautiful.”

Heat rushes to my face, and I repeat the word. “Hi.”

“Are you OK? You almost took a tumble.” There’s something about the gentle tenor of his voice. I listen to soft meditations at night when I have trouble sleeping, and I’d love to have a recording of his voice whispering that the day is over and I’m safe now.

“Good. I’m good,” I manage in a shaky voice as my fingers tighten around his shirt like my body doesn’t want to let him go. I want to pull that Stetson off his head and run my fingers through his hair.

“That’s real good, honey,” he murmurs.

The soft rumble of approval and the unexpected pet name warms me all over. He’s looking at me like no one else has before. Like I’m precious. Like I matter. Before I can say anything, the bell above the door rings as the last of the regulars leave.

The diner is empty other than the two of us and Ernie and Lorna. That’s right. Ernie and Lorna are here. My bosses who expect me to serve the customers, not moon over them.

I squeak out, “I’ll get that cleaned up, then take your order.”

Without bothering to seat him, I turn and leave the lobby. I grab the mop and bucket from the utility closet. The entire time I’m cleaning, I can feel his gaze on me. My skin is hot and flushed, my body humming with attraction.
I’m having a baby with the bearded mountain man that I met one time. Can the three of us make a family this Valentine’s Day?

Thea

For Valentine’s Day this year, Cupid brought me a positive pregnancy test. OK, so I'm pretty sure I can't blame the guy with the arrow for my new baby bump. That's on me.

And a certain mountain man that was most definitely on me. And under me. And well, you get the picture. Now I'm showing up on his doorstep with the most unexpected holiday surprise he's ever going to get.

I plan to tell him and leave. But when an unexpected snowstorm keeps me stranded with the bearded mountain man, can I stop myself from asking him to be my Valentine?

Jasper

The moment I saw Thea Madison, I knew she was meant to be mine. But she left me before I could tell her about our beautiful future together.

Weeks later, she’s back in my small town for Valentine’s Day. I couldn’t have asked for a better gift, especially when she tells me that she’s carrying my baby.

Now, I just need to convince the curvy woman of my dreams that we’re meant to be. If I do, I might get everything I’ve ever a family to call my own.

If you love a holiday romance that’s sweeter than a box of truffles with a melt-in-your-mouth alpha who says the filthiest things, it’s time to meet Jasper in The Mountain Man’s Valentine Baby. This Valentine’s Day love story is a stand-alone romance set in Mia Brody’s Courage County which is the perfect place to find your next book boyfriend!

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Thea

I thread through the crowd, ducking my fourth handsy cowboy of the night. When I finally step outside of the bed and breakfast in Sweetheart, North Carolina, I let out a small sigh of relief.

I’m on a second-floor balcony and I seem to have found the only one that’s unoccupied. It’s filled with a long row of rocking chairs, no doubt set up this way so newlyweds can serenely enjoy their first morning cup of coffee together after a wild night spent making love in the honeymoon suite. Ugh, couples are the worst.

Weddings aren’t really my thing. I wouldn’t be here except that my biggest client, Zac Maple, has gotten married today. He’s a great guy, and he fell for an amazing woman named Dotty. I’m sure they’ll have decades of wedded bliss together.

But right now, I’m stuffed into a too-tiny red dress that’s called to every cowboy in a hundred-foot radius. I’m never wearing a dress again after this. Or attending another wedding.

“Weddings are what people do when they fall in love and want to brag about their happiness to all of their single friends,” I mutter as I pace down the balcony, aiming for the corner rocking chair that’s tucked away in the darkness.

“I couldn’t agree more,” a deep, masculine voice says. It has a raspy sound, like whiskey poured over gravel.

I look up to find a man with dark eyes staring back at me in the fading light of dusk. He rakes his gaze down my figure, and I shiver as if he just caressed me.

He’s seated in the rocking chair like he had the same idea I did—to hide away from the wedding festivities.

There’s a small sketchbook resting on one of his thick thighs and a pencil clutched too tightly in his scarred hand.

I saw him with Zac’s brothers. He’s one of the best men. Actually, he was the only best man I could focus on. It was something about his dark eyes and the way he carried himself with quiet confidence despite his limp.

Suddenly, my plans are dashed. I can’t hide away and work on the crochet project in my purse.

Crochet was a hobby I started when I first began touring with Zac in a crappy secondhand tour bus that smelled like moldy cheese. Back then, he was a no-name country music singer with more dreams than money. I was a no-name manager with more dreams than clients. Now years later, he headlines sold-out concerts across the country, and I’m the most-sought-after talent manager in Nashville.

The best man tucks away his pencil and sketchbook into his suit coat. “Seems I’m not the only one whose plans for solitude were dashed.”

As he moves, I can’t help but notice the way the material of his suit clings to his big, bulky frame. I imagine what it would feel like to have his arms wrapped around me, squeezing me tight. His full, bushy beard would probably brush the top of my head. Why does that thought make me feel warm all over?

“I thought I was alone,” I explain to him, my voice sounding too breathy to my own ears.

“Clearly, you are.” His brown gaze is still assessing me, like a predator that has spotted prey and is trying to size it up. The thought should make me uncomfortable, but it doesn’t. I like the way this big man is looking at me. I like the idea that he’s sizing me up and deciding which part of my body he’d like to feast on first.

I shrug. I’ve never had anyone so I can’t be sad about it. “I always have been.”

Something flickers across his face, sorrow and grief mixing. In this one moment, I think maybe he’s as lonely as I am. Maybe he understands what it’s like to be completely alone in the world. Whatever he’s feeling, he blinks it away and the emotion is gone from his face. He clears his throat. “I’m Jasper, Zac’s best man. Despite the title, I also hate our happy friend.”

I relax at his introduction and consider taking the seat in the rocking chair next to him. But it’s hard to breathe as it is and if I don’t sit exactly right, the wire in this shapewear will spear into me like Moby Dick.

I keep standing, trying to ignore the chill in the late December air. In my desperate attempt to leave the wedding reception, I left my white cardigan behind. “I’m Thea. It’s great that he’s happy. But give the rest of us a break, right? I’m wearing shapewear, for fuck’s sake.”

He looks me up and down again, and his tongue darts out to lick his bottom lip. “I don’t know what that is, but damn if I’m not curious now, Thea.”

He says my name softly like he’s savoring it, and I can’t help it. I feel giddy under his attention. I’m surrounded by handsome, powerful men every day who can have whatever they want. But there’s something about this man and his gaze. He makes me feel like I’m the powerful one for a change.
Yesterday, I was nobody. Today, I’m fake dating country music’s hottest superstar. The relationship is pretend, but the chemistry between us is very real…

Dotty

Listen, I didn't mean to hit Zac Maple, country music's golden boy, with my car. He walked right in front of me. Totally not my fault.

Equally not my fault is everyone thinking we're dating. I didn't start that rumor. He did that when he was incoherently babbling about soulmates. This rowdy cowboy is over the top and way too possessive!

Zac

My brother said that sometimes love hits you out of nowhere. He wasn’t wrong. I have the concussion to prove it.

Problem is, the little pixie who hit me wants nothing to do with me. But the whole town thinks we're dating, and I'll use every advantage I have to win my girl's heart. Because this cowboy is head over heels and completely gone for the sassy reporter.

If you love fake dating romances and possessive cowboys who are all-in from the first awkward meet cute, then it's time to fall for Zac Maple in Big Rowdy Cowboy. One click for a story so hot you’ll need an ice cube!

It’s time to meet the Maple Brothers, the sweetest cowboys in Courage County. These OTT alpha cowboys are determined to claim the curvy women who have stolen their hearts. Cuddle up with these sexy new book boyfriends from Mia Brody today!

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Dotty

My dream isn’t to spend my days chasing around a cow with an attitude. It’s to write stories that would otherwise go untold without my journalistic instincts. Instead, I’m working on yet another article that will have a fascinating headline like, “What’s Betsy Up to Today”.

OK, that’s a slight exaggeration…at least, the part about the headline. Still, I’m pretty sure Sylvia, my editor, only assigns me these articles because she hates me.

I’m an intern at The Courage Chronicle, a tiny newspaper in a tiny forgotten town. Other than getting coffee and helping the real reporters, there are only a few topics I’m allowed to cover, and Betsy is one of them.

This is the reason why I’m driving around in my beat-up car, otherwise known as Rust Bucket. Rusty here doesn’t have a reverse and barely even runs unless I say a little chant and put my hands on the dashboard.

Lately, I’ve been trying positive affirmations, but so far, that hasn’t manifested me a new car or a full tank of gas so I’m thinking of giving up on those entirely.

Rusty makes a noise like her engine is coughing, and I peer down the dusty dirt road in front of me. I’m not sure which path Betsy has wandered onto.

I can’t believe I’m out here chasing a cow when the “storm of the century” hit Courage County earlier today. Most of the town is up on the mountain, helping the stranded citizens. The real reporters are there too. They’re capturing stories of bravery and heroism.

The engine makes another clunking noise, and I drop my speed down to twenty miles an hour. It’s getting dark, and I’m having trouble seeing the road. The thing about a tiny town like Courage County is that there are rarely streetlights. Especially on backroads like this one.

I think I’m on the Maple Farm, but I’m not sure. I’ve taken so many twists and turns in my quest to satisfy the burning curiosity of the town citizens regarding Betsy’s whereabouts. I see a blur of something as my asthmatic engine continues wheezing.

Quickly, I crane my neck to look behind me. I’d stop the car, except that there’s no reverse in Rust Bucket. Once I have committed to a path, I’m pretty much stuck on it unless I can find enough room to do a U-turn.

I’m so focused on the road sign behind me that I feel the impact a second too late. I slam on my brakes and watch helplessly as a cowboy crumples to his knees in front of the car before collapsing in a heap on the dirt road.

I let loose with a string of swears under my breath, shoving Rusty into park. I scramble from the vehicle, horror and shock overtaking me. I just hit a pedestrian! I mean, he wandered into the middle of the road, but will Judge Helen see it that way? I try to remember if any of the articles I’ve read about her mentioned her being tough on crime or if she has any cowboy grandsons.

“Please, don’t be dead or related to Judge Helen,” I whisper as I approach the cowboy. My heart pounds furiously. I don’t know what to do or who to call.

The problem with living in a small town is there’s no emergency number. You call the sheriff on his cell phone and pray he answers. I’m pretty sure my phone is still in my car, but the battery died several hours ago.
This big, bearded cowboy is over the top and completely sweet to his curvy baker…

Sadie

OK, so the cowboy is stupid hot. It doesn’t mean he has the right to stalk me. Or show up at my workplace and growl at my rude vendor. Or make me feel all fluttery inside when he does nice things for me.

I’m not about to fall for this bearded cowboy. Nope, not even in love with him a little bit.

Barrett

It’s not stalking if she’s my future wife and make no mistake, the curvy baker belongs to me. I just have to convince her to wear my ring.

It’s a lucky thing I’m good with my tongue because I’m going to lick all of Sadie’s frosting until I convince this good girl to be mine. Only mine.

If you love a filthy talking cowboy who falls instantly in love with the curvy woman of his dreams, you’ll love meeting Barrett in Big Filthy Cowboy.

Chapter 1

Sadie

I’m not saying donuts are the secret to happiness. I’m just saying that I’ve never seen someone crying while holding a donut. That’s why I started my donut shop, Sprinkles. I opened it here in the tiny town of Courage County on a whim. If a whim involves a one-way bus ticket to North Carolina and an abandoned storefront that called to me.

Truth be told, I wasn’t so sure about starting my own business. After all, I’m only twenty-one with a failed year of college and a smidge of trauma under my apron.

Still, this hasn’t been a total disaster. The folks in Courage love their sweets, and I’ve found an amazing group of women who are as passionate about reading alien smut as I am.

The only problem is no purple alien has landed in my new town to probe me in all the best ways. But I guess, life is pretty good. I mean, I’m making friends here. Especially with Linda Maple.

“Did you bring the good stuff?” Linda calls from another room as soon as I bustle through the back door of her shop. Our shops are right next door to each other’s, and she’s been a great neighbor. The sweet scent of her candles greets me here in the inventory room.

I glance around the pile of boxes. She got a new shipment of wax. Normally, her foster kids are here to help her out.

“I brought plenty of donuts,” I tell her as I thread my way around the boxes in inventory to the front of the shop. I set the box of six donuts carefully on the counter and place a second box on top of it. It only has a single donut in it for Tiny Bear. Poor little guy has had it rough in life. Fortunately, there are good people like Linda who take in kids without a place to go.

My life hasn’t been easy. Like Linda’s adopted children, I know what it’s like to be a foster kid. I understand how it feels to know your biological family hates you, and no one else wants you. Pushing back the sad thoughts, I retrace my steps to the storage room.

“Where did you say I should put these boxes?” I call to her as I grab the first one. Damn, it’s heavy. Far heavier than I thought it’d be. But if there’s one thing that working at my donut shop has given me, it’s an appreciation for hard work. If I work hard enough, I don’t have time to think about the memories that haunt me.

I hear the soft hum of her motorized wheelchair as she rolls into the room. “Anything marked with a pink sticker goes to the production room,” she explains, looking at the box that’s currently straining my back. “Some of my boys will be by later this afternoon to help with the heavy ones.”

“I don’t mind,” I puff as I carry the box from the room.

For the next hour, Linda and I move boxes. Well, she tries to move boxes, but I just take them from her. I haven’t known her for long, but I already know that her multiple sclerosis makes her tire easily.

“You should spend your energy making candles,” I gently chide as I move another box around the shop. I had no idea wax was sold in fifty-pound blocks or that it would make my back twinge this way.

She rolls to another room, looking for the candle she made just for me. “What have you been reading lately?”

Her question instantly makes me brighten. She isn’t part of my book club, but she always asks about what I’m reading.

I launch into a quick description of the purple hero in the smutty alien romance I’m reading and how the heroine has boarded his ship for the first time. “I think they’re about to do it, which is the best part.”

Linda chuckles. “You’ll have to let me know if he has horns or ridges.”

“Oh, I totally will. Hopefully, he has both.” I can’t help giggling. I love alien romances. The heroes are not only hot and alpha; they also have unusual body features that seem to exist only to pleasure the heroine.

“How long has it been since you were on a date?” Linda asks, curiosity coloring her tone.

I reach for one of the lighter boxes, to give my aching back a break. “I’m not sure.”

That sounds better than telling her I’ve never been on a date. My life has been about survival, so there hasn’t been time for dating.

“Then it sounds like it’s been too long,” Linda says gently. This is what I love about her. She’s gentle in everything she does, always taking the time to listen more than she speaks. It means every word from her mouth carries so much more weight.
