A brand new contemporary romance from New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Melanie Moreland. Prepare to be swept away by this love story of two opposites who collide in all the right ways — and the man who refuses to let distance keep them apart.

Sullivan Black
Powerful. Confident.
Sully Black is a highly sought-after corporate solicitor with ties to a dangerous world…one he cannot escape.
One he never wanted to be free of until it threatened to destroy something he never thought he would have.
Love.
Autumn Briggs
A woman visiting Scotland, hoping the shadows in her life dissipate, gone forever by the time she returns home to Canada.
When an unexpected storm brings the two strangers together in a small cabin, another tempest occurs. One filled with emotions, passion, and talks of forever.
She captivates him.
He fascinates her.
When the outside storm passes and reality sets in, will their new love withstand the pressures of their worlds colliding?
Can she accept the light and the dark?
Can he protect her from her past?
Is forever just a word—or their new way of life?

Author's Note: If you are looking for a later-in-life vacation fling that becomes so much more, a forced-proximity slow burn with just-one-bed tension, a touch-her-and-die hero who will cross oceans to keep her safe, and a love story that proves distance is no match for forever — Sullivan is the book you've been waiting for

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER ONE

SULLY

Isat back, running a hand over my weary face. I scratched my signature on the final document, calling for my assistant. Lloyd came in and held out his hand for the pile of papers, which I gratefully handed over.

“Done,” I said with a slight grimace, my head aching. “I need this filed first thing.”

“What you need is a break.”

I laughed dryly. “I have ten more pressing matters to look after.”

He shook his head. “All of which can wait until next week. I’m serious, Sully. You look like the walking dead. You need a few days off.” He paused. “I might have cleared your calendar for Friday. You’re free until Monday.”

I stared at him. “What?”

He crossed his arms, glaring. “I like this job, thank you very much. I don’t want my boss keeling over from exhaustion and stress. I did some creative time management and got you free. You’re welcome.” He met my eyes, not at all worried. “You need the break.”

He turned to leave. “And I booked you a seat on the last train to Lachlan. I suggest you be on it.”

He left, shutting the door behind him before I could protest.

I had half a mind to shout after him and tell him he was fired. But the remaining, functioning part of my brain told me to shut up. Lloyd was an amazing assistant. He handled me and my schedule flawlessly. If he rearranged things, I knew it had been done correctly and no one would suffer because of it.

And the honest truth was, he was correct. I needed a few days’ break. Time to clear my head. The firm I worked for was extremely successful—and incredibly busy. I was part of the corporate group, and I was constantly in demand. This last case had been a twisted mess of personal and business mixed together, many clients and solicitors involved, heated arguments and incorrect assumptions and documents to be sorted. It had taken us weeks to unravel the threads that wove them together and present a solution that was fair to all involved.

Lesson learned to many—don’t try to handle your own legal documents and businesses. Leave it to the professionals.

I sat back, scrubbing my face. I glanced out the window at the gray light settling over Edinburgh. The small village of Lachlan was quaint, charming—and secluded. I had been given a small cottage on the outskirts of the village by my aunt Roisin. Her son, Niall, knew about it and was happy for me to have it since he resided in Canada. He had used it a couple of times when he and his wife had come to see Roisin and wanted a few days’ privacy. My other cousin, Finn, had been once, but he preferred visiting Dublin and staying in one of the hotels he owned in the city. I always enjoyed it there as well, but the tranquility and privacy of the small stone cottage was a draw when I was run-down and depleted.

I had done some renovations after acquiring the cottage. Added a larger conservatory to the side and extended the back of the building, making a bigger bedroom and bath. The original cottage’s bedroom was so small, it had only held a double bed. And at six three, I found it impossible to get comfortable in a bed that minute. I had made a few other upgrades but left the exterior the same, other than adding a slightly wider porch. I enjoyed sitting outside, staring at the endless water in front of the cottage.
An epic small town, second chance love story a decade in the making from New York Times bestselling author Melanie Moreland -

She was the light in my dark life. The sunshine that warmed me and made me smile.
We had one summer. One perfect summer, until the day it ended.
Years later, she walked back into my life. Older. Sadder. More beautiful than ever.
How can I prove to her that summer was real?
How do I make her see the boy who loved her then, still loves her now?
How do we get back to the summer when we were us?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PART I

1

LINC

“What?” I frowned in confusion. “A job? I already have something for the summer. Why do I need a different job?”

My father’s cold eyes studied me over his thick-rimmed glasses. “Because I said so, Lincoln.”

“But, Father…”

“You aren’t spending it fucking around, drinking with your friends, sleeping the summer away, and spending my money. You’re going to work.”

I gaped at him. “When the hell have I ever done those things? I spent the last three summers volunteering at the local animal shelter.”

He scowled. “Watch your tone. Walking dogs and feeding cats teaches you nothing.”

“It teaches me responsibility and to care for other creatures.”

He waved his hand. “It’s making you soft. I need to toughen you up.”

I wanted to argue with him and tell him how wrong he was, but I knew there was no point. Franklin Thomas didn’t do feelings. Or care about anything. Animals were on the earth to feed him and for him to place bets on at the occasional horse race. You didn’t love them.

According to him, it was better never to love anything. Including me.

“You’ll be working at the summer camp. My company is sponsoring it this year, and I want a Thomas there representing me. You’ll be assisting the head of the camp with whatever he requires you to do.”

I held back my groan. I didn’t want to work at the camp. I wanted to be at the shelter—learning and soaking up as much knowledge as I could.

“Father, I want to be a vet. I told you this before, many times. Volunteering at the shelter will look good on my resume in a few years.”

He shook his head. “We’ve discussed this, and I told you no. You’ll be joining the firm. Forget that stupid dream. Your mother put that idea in your head when you were a kid—one of her many idiotic thoughts—and it’s time you grow out of it.”

I curled my hands into fists at my sides. I hated the way he spoke of my mother. As if she meant nothing. When, in fact, it was the opposite. She had meant everything to me and had been the bright spot in my world.

That died when she did, and my life was never the same again. My already distant father became cold and unfeeling. His entire world revolved around one thing—money. Happiness didn’t matter. I didn’t matter—a fact that he made perfectly clear.

I tried one more time. “Father, please—”

He stood, slamming his fists onto his desk. “There will be no arguments, or it’s all gone, Lincoln. The car, your allowance, any freedom I allow you—everything.”

I knew he was serious.

“When do I start?”

“You report day after tomorrow. I’ve decided you can stay there, but you come back every Sunday to report in. You keep your eyes open and your nose clean. Camp ends mid-August. If you do a good job, there’ll be a reward.”

I frowned. My father never gave rewards. “Sir?” I asked.

He smiled—one of his cold, unreal smiles that unnerved me. “I won’t shut down that fucking animal shelter you like so much. Fuck this up, and I’m pulling the lease.”

I turned and left, not wanting him to see my disgust. I headed out the door and hurried down the path to the cliff that overlooked the water below. I sat on the edge, drawing my knees up to my chest and resting my arms on them.

I knew my father owned the building the shelter was in. Hell, he owned most of the buildings and businesses in town. Not that anyone knew it. His maze of numbered companies kept that hidden. Rents went up, people lost their homes and businesses, and he sat back, not caring, enjoying the sick, twisted game he played with people’s lives. Laughing at the fact that it was him pulling the strings so often, moving people around like pieces on a chessboard. To most people, my father was a well-respected businessman. He owned several companies in various towns, along with a lot of real estate, including some huge holdings in Toronto. He sat on the chamber of commerce board, the council, and was tight with the mayor and the police here in Mission Cove. He duped them all.

I despised him.

I had been looking forward to spending the whole summer at the shelter. Caring for the animals, picking the brains of the vets who volunteered their time there. I had hoped to convince one of them to let me volunteer at their clinic so I could learn more. It would have looked great on my application to veterinary school. It was hard to get into, and I would need all the help I could get.

Except my father had just crushed those dreams, hadn’t he? The same way he crushed everything else I hoped for. Everything I loved.

I knew it looked like I was the kid who had it all. I drove a new car, wore nice clothes, and I always had money in my pocket. My grades were good, and I was well-thought-of by my teachers and peers alike.
A brand new Regency romance from New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Melanie Moreland and USA Today Bestselling author Scarlett Scott. Prepare to be swept away by this steamy, heartwarming tale of Lord Wheaton and his Maddie...

Miss Maddie Smythe

My callous father wagered me to a brooding stranger during a hand of cards, leaving me terrified.

But Lord Wheaton was nothing like the baron who’d forced me into servitude and gave me away.

The handsome marquess was compassionate, honorable, and my only hope for a future.

I married him to save myself, not intending to lose my heart.

Never thinking of the danger that loomed, threatening to tear us apart forever.

Alexander, Marquess of Wheaton

The last thing I needed was an innocent to protect, but I couldn’t leave the frightened maid to her vile father’s mercy.

It didn’t take me long to realize Maddie was everything I never knew I needed, sweet and caring and lovely.

She made me whole.

When her villainous father tried to take her from me, I vowed to do everything in my power to save my wife.

Even if it meant sacrificing myself

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

ALEXANDER

Outside my town house, London made its displeasure with the weather known.

The streets were deserted, the roads absent of the sounds of carriages, ladies strolling and chatting. The only souls out were servants scurrying to complete their errands so they could hurry back to the heat and dryness of a kitchen hearth and perhaps a cup of weak tea to warm themselves with before getting busy with their tasks.

Shops were mostly empty, the downpour bouncing off the roads, settling the constant dust but creating puddles of muck instead. Those out in the weather tried to dodge the vast puddles without much success, their feet, skirts, and trouser legs wet and muddy.

The steady beat of the rain on the glass was almost soothing as I bent over the numerous ledgers and piles of correspondence awaiting my attention. An empty plate and cup were balanced on one end of the desk, precarious and forgotten from the small meal sent to me by the cook. She insisted I needed to eat and I refused to leave my study, so a compromise was made. I didn’t have to tell her she was correct and the small repast had cleared my head so I could continue to work. She knew, and I had no desire to see the smug smile on her face. She was already far too settled in her role here and knew I would rather cut off my arm than dismiss her.

A fire danced merrily in the hearth, warming the room and eschewing the dampness seeping in from outside. It was pleasant and quiet, the faint sounds of the servants going about their tasks a low noise in the background.

A sharp rap on my study door sounded out, disturbing my concentration. I didn’t cease in my endeavors, recognizing the knock. I had heard it innumerable times before now.

“Enter,” I called out.

The sound of steady footsteps confirmed my judgment.

“Sit, and I will be with you momentarily. You know where the scotch is.”

A chuckle sounded. “That would be most welcome, my lord.”

I finished the column in the ledger, pleased with the number. I shut the tome and sat back, regarding my visitor. Edward Warwick observed me, his gaze steady and calm. His shoulders were damp from the rain outside. No doubt too broad to fit under an umbrella. They filled the chair across from my desk, and his hair was wet. But his boots were clean, no doubt dried before he entered the hall. My housekeeper was as frightening as my cook, and he knew better than to tread on the Axminster with wet soles.

He had his ankle crossed over his knee, appearing relaxed, but I knew better. There was a tightening of his jaw, an erratic beat to his foot. The hand that held his crystal glass was fisted tightly. He was my right hand, my land steward, and my closest friend. I had known him most of my life and trusted him completely. He had news.

I sat back. “Tell me.”

He grinned, showing off his wide smile. “I bring news of the empty acreage between Wheaton and Milton Manor.”

Simply the subject sent a rush of fretfulness through me. “What of it?”

“Rumor has it that the piece of land your father sold will finally be made available.”

I leaned forward, eager. “How?”

“Lord Barnett is in deep financial trouble.”

I could barely hide my disdain simply hearing that name.

“How deep?”

“He is barely holding on. And, as such, is hosting a game. I have heard he plans to recoup his losses and pay his debts.”

I rubbed my bottom lip thoughtfully. “Is your source reliable?”

He tilted his head, studying me. “Isn’t it always?” he asked, raising his eyebrow in shock that I would question him.

“Is his situation well-known?”

Author's If you love explosive chemistry, fiery banter, and a grumpy firefighter who always saves the girl, My Favorite Hero delivers all the heat and heart you crave–grab it now before Jesse Thorne steals someone else's

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

JESSE

My phone rang a couple of blocks from my house, and I answered, curious as to why the station was calling me. I had left the building only ten minutes prior and waved to Martha as I did.

Covington had one fire station and one police station, and we shared the space with the paramedics as well. My shift as a firefighter had ended at two, and I was headed home for a few days off. I was tired, sore, and ready for the break. I planned on a shower, a cold beer, and twelve hours of sleep.

And aside from a few groceries, my days off would be a replica of that plan.

“Martha,” I greeted her. “What’s up?”

“Jesse,” she replied. “Lila just called to say she saw some unknown vehicle parked at your place. And a strange woman poking around. Want me to send a car over?”

I withheld my groan. Lila was always seeing something in the neighborhood to report.

“A strange woman?” I repeated. “What sort of strange woman? Like a clown?”

“I didn’t ask her, you little shit,” she snorted. “Lila is a little strange herself, so God only knows.”

I chuckled. “Probably someone selling something. I’m almost home. If I need a car, I’ll call.”

“I could get Henry to swing by. I’d hate to have your grumpy face messed up by a criminal.”

“If they’re parked at the house and wandering around, I doubt they’re much of a criminal. Maybe the woman has the wrong address. I’ll check it out.”

I hung up, cursing. All I wanted was some peace and quiet. I hoped whoever it was realized they had the wrong place and had left when I got home.

No such luck.

As I approached the house, I frowned. There was an old white SUV parked in the driveway, some boxes in the back. I parked on my side of the driveway, glancing at the porch. The door was locked, and everything seemed fine.

I walked around the side of the house, stopping in surprise at the sight greeting me. The weather-worn ladder I kept by the shed lay on its side, obviously having fallen over by the kitchen window. And it was—occupied.

A pair of short but shapely legs that were definitely female hung out of the lower half of the window. She had a pair of Doc Martens on her feet. The top half of the window rested just above the perky, round ass of the woman currently filling the space.

Not at all what I expected.

I could hear her curses. The mutterings were loud enough for me to know it was a feminine voice but not make out the words, aside from the louder-sounding curses.

Who the hell was she?

And why was she attempting to break in to my house?

Suddenly, her legs began to kick, and I could see she was trying to use her body to lift the weight of the window pinning her into place.

And failing.

The windows were old and heavy. If the top casement had fallen on her, not only did it have to hurt, she was going to have a difficult time getting free with that curved ass.

Not that I’d noticed it.

I walked to the back door, using my key to open it. Inside, I was met with another amusing sight. The stranger dangled from the window, caught figuratively between a rock and a hard place. Or in this case, literally between the window and the floor. Long, dark hair swept the tile. Her arms didn’t. They were flailing, trying to find purchase somewhere. Anywhere. But with the kitchen half gutted, there was nowhere to grab. The window had her pinned. She didn’t have the strength to pull herself up and get free, and she was wedged too tightly to slide down. Another interesting fact was the black T-shirt lying crumpled on the floor. The deep blue of her camisole set off her skin, which was covered in a sheen of sweat, indicating how hard she was struggling. She kept trying to tug it over her exposed skin, but it was impossible to do so and try to use her arms to get free. It was a losing battle on both fronts.
The sky was heavy, and I knew more snow would be coming soon. I was cautious as I approached the empty street and slipped through the narrow hole in the splintered fence. Carefully, I made my way to the small warehouse, trying to remember the path I had taken earlier when I had discovered this place.

I crawled in a broken window and gingerly made my way through the dark building with only a little light from the street coming in the dirt-streaked windows. I found my way back to what I was sure was an old staff room—some empty tables and flipped-over chairs were still scattered around. The corner had boxes piled up, and I moved them until I had a layer on the floor to sleep on and a cover all around me so I couldn’t be seen.

God knew I might not be the only person who discovered the hole in the fence.

But for now, I was alone, warmer than I had been the past three nights, and slightly comfortable. Wrapping my arms around my torso, I tucked my backpack under my head and lay on the cardboard, listening to the strange sounds around the warehouse. Rustles and creaks echoed in the building; outside, the far-off sounds of cars and people drifted in the windows that were broken and empty. I knew what the scurrying feet meant, but mice and rats were the least of my worries these days. If I made enough noise, it would scare them away. I slept so lightly now, if one came close, I would know.

I shut my eyes, willing myself to relax. I had barely slept for three days. That was the last time I had been able to get a bed in a shelter. My last shower—my last hot meal. And although you never got a great night’s sleep in a shelter, it was better than walking around the city all night, looking for a place to warm up for a few minutes.

I sighed sadly, fighting the sudden tears. I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it through the winter. Swiping a hand across my cheeks, I shook my head. There was no point crying. Nothing was going to change.

This was my life now.

I slept harder than I thought was possible anymore, startling only when an unexpected noise and deep, angry voices woke me. Bright lights shone through the slits of the cardboard around me, and I sat up, panicked, looking around wildly. It took me a few seconds to remember where I was and why I was there. I peeked around the edge of my little cave, my eyes widening at the sight before me.

A man was slumped over in a chair, his face beaten. His blond hair was disheveled, his jacket torn, and I could see blood on his sleeve. Two other men were standing, rigid and straight, hands clasped behind their backs. One of them was huge—easily the tallest man I had ever seen. He had dark hair, and his face was mottled with scars. His mouth was pulled down in a frown, and his expression was frightening. The other man was average, middle-aged, seeming almost bored, and he was frowning as well, looking unhappy. But it was the man pacing who really caught my attention. Tall, broad shoulders; his dark shirt wrinkled under his black leather coat, which gleamed beneath the lights as he paced and cursed, screaming at the man in the chair in a language I didn’t understand. His hair was wild—a chaotic mess of bright red. His hands moved constantly, and in one of them was a gun.

I covered my mouth, stifling the small gasp when I saw the gun. Gunman stopped, and my heart clenched, thinking he had heard my gasp. But then he carried on, screaming and waving the gun. He made two circuits of the room, shouting questions. Twice, he passed right by my corner and I held my breath, but his footsteps never faltered. The man in the chair said nothing, sitting slumped and silent.

I watched, terrified as Gunman stopped a few feet away from Blond Guy. “You gonna tell me what I want to know?” he asked in English, his voice now deadly calm and somehow even more frightening.

“Fuck you.”

A gunshot rang out, and the blond guy jerked, a shout of pain echoing in the room. His left leg began bleeding, and he slumped farther into his chair.

Gunman chuckled, the evil sound making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. He tucked the gun into the small of his back and leaned down close to Blond Guy’s face, speaking quietly. Blond Guy shook his head rapidly, and Gunman pressed down on his leg where the bullet was. I could see his hand squeezing and gripping. Blond Guy screamed, his head falling back.
She’s His One Weakness—And He’ll Burn the World to Save Her.

Niall Black
Loyal right-hand to Finn O’Reilly. Cousin and trusted friend.
He lives for the life he’s created. Filled with business, both day-to-day and dangerous. Not interested in a relationship of any kind outside of his comfort zone.
Until fate brings her to him. Annabelle Lewis.
She awakens something inside him. A need. A desire.
A new set of feelings he wasn’t prepared for.
When she is taken from him, how far will he go to get her back?
To the ends of the earth.
And anyone in his way will be removed.
Permanently.
The suspenseful finale in The Irishmen duet by New York Times Bestselling author Melanie Moreland

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER ONE

NIALL

It had been a long time since we’d been in this position. A surprise raid, carefully planned and executed on our part. Finn tried to avoid violence, but this was the exception. We all wanted it.

Human trafficking was unacceptable. Add in the fact that the love of his life had been taken? It was no-holds-barred. The people involved with this horrific act would all be dead by the time we finished here tonight.

Bodies hit the wooden floor, the thumps almost musical as I aimed and shot, taking out as many of the human waste as I could.

Roman issued the order, and the lights came on as we tore off our night goggles so as not to be blinded.

I followed Finn as he raced toward Una. I was his right hand. Best friend. Cousin.

Wingman.

I faced the chaos, making sure all our enemies were down. Finn got to Una, picking her up, talking the whole time.

Then he called me. “Niall. Help.”

I slung my gun over my shoulder and went to his side. He indicated the woman on the floor beside Una. “They have to stay close right now.”

At a loss, I bent beside the woman. She was a huddled mass of shaking limbs—obviously terrified out of her mind.

I spoke so she could hear me. “I’m Niall. A friend of Una’s and Finn’s. I need to pick you up so we can get you out of here. I won’t hurt you. Will you let me?”

Slowly, she raised her head, and my breath caught in my throat. She was barely dressed, beaten, her eyes too big for her thin face—and the most beautiful, fragile thing I had ever seen.

Those eyes were like a fawn’s separated from its mother. Round, deep brown, terrified, and desperate. Her skin was stretched over her cheekbones, and her lips were chewed and scabbed. Still, her beauty overrode it all.

“I won’t hurt you,” I repeated. “I promise. You’ll be safe.”

She nodded, and I could see the effort it cost her. I picked her up, her weight barely registering. She was small—she felt fragile and weak in my embrace, stirring something inside me. Something deep and primitive. The need to protect, to kill anyone who harmed her, to hold her until she was no longer afraid, roared in me. A strange noise came from my throat, and I was sure I had startled her. But she didn’t fight me, instead nestling into my torso as if she belonged there. I frowned, looking at Finn. “She’s freezing.”

I turned, yelling for blankets, knowing both women needed them.

I had never cared for another person. Looked after someone aside from my mother. I took the blanket and ineptly tucked it around the woman I held, hoping to warm her. Her skin was like ice, and she shivered constantly.

Una saw her brother across the area, bloodied and dying. Finn carried her over, and the woman I was holding shifted, looking their way.

She cried as she watched Una try to care for her brother, peeking up at me. “He was part of this.”

“I think he is regretful,” I replied. “And knowing Una and her heart, she will forgive him.”

“She is so wonderful,” she murmured. “I don’t think I would have lasted much longer without her.”

I looked around at the bodies piled up, the people we’d killed. I felt no remorse. Una had been kidnapped, and we had to save her. And she wasn’t the only one. Tonight, we’d rescued other women, as well as the people being forced to create drugs that were being sold on our streets. It was necessary, and we had no hesitation executing the plan—or the human scum who perpetrated the crimes.

The woman in my arms shivered again, and I tucked her closer. Roman came over, looking between us. “We need to move. We caused more noise than I had hoped, and I want us out of here before someone notices. We need to set off the explosives as soon as possible.”

“Right.”

“There’s still room in the van. One of the other men can take her,” he added with a nod toward the woman I was holding.

Her grip on my jacket tensed, and she made a noise of distress, burying her face back into my shoulder. Unconsciously, my hold on her tightened, and a primal growl built in my chest.

“No. She stays with me.”

Roman blinked and held up his hands in supplication. “All right.”

He moved toward Una and Finn. Brian had died, and Una was holding him, weeping and refusing to let go. She became a lioness, screaming at Finn that she wasn’t leaving her brother. Roman bent down, saying something to her that calmed her down, and she allowed Finn to pick her up. He jerked his chin toward the door. I joined him.

“We’re heading out.”

“Okay. Good.” I wanted out of here. The smell of death was everywhere, the scent of blood ripe in the air. Although I wasn’t sorry any of them were dead, I was sorry for the women we held. Finn and I were used to death. Bloodshed and violence were part of the world we lived in.
His power rules the city—but she rules his heart.

Finn O’Reilly is stern, powerful, and confident. He oversees his hotel and his syndicate with a commanding presence and leadership, knowing any weakness could be used against him.

And he has none. Except Una Murphy. The woman he lost his heart to and still loves, even though she wants nothing to do with him.

Or so she claims.

When her life is in peril, he won’t stop until she is safe and back where she belongs—with him.

Can he rescue her?

Convince her to stay?

Will she be a part of his world, regardless of the danger, knowing she is safer with him than apart?

She is his world.

He simply needs to convince her.

Start your journey in The Irishmen duet by New York Times best-selling author Melanie Moreland

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER ONE

FINN

I glanced at my watch, then cast my gaze at the wall of monitors on the opposite wall. I could see and, if I wanted, hear everything going on in every corner of my hotel and casino, aside from the private rooms. I had no desire to know what went on behind the closed doors of my guests. Unless you were in a suite I put you in to keep tabs on you.

That was a totally different story.

The casino was steady, the restaurants prepping for another day of busy service, and everything was running smoothly. I clicked again so the entire wall became the lobby, scanning to make sure it looked perfect.

Guests were coming and going, the concierge desk busy. The front desk had a few people in front of it, and I did a quick zoom to make sure the staff was following protocol.

At least, that was what I told myself.

I took a moment to observe the lobby, waiting until a familiar head of bright-red curls appeared. I stared at the monitor, drinking in the smile and friendly expression on her face as she dealt with a guest. The warmth she exuded, the same warmth I wished were directed toward me, even though I knew she was off-limits. She had made that very clear, and I had to respect her wishes. I watched her for a few more moments, admiring her grace and beauty, reaching my hand out to stroke her cheek on the screen, recalling how soft her skin was. How silky it used to feel under my fingers. The way it felt when I pressed my lips there, whispering to her.

“Mo chroí.”

As if hearing my thoughts, she looked up toward the monitor, her gaze feeling as if it were looking directly into my soul. The one only she knew. For a brief time, she had been the redemption, the gift I’d been given.

Until she’d left me.

Her gaze dropped and I shook my head, returning to the present. I focused my attention to the front door, waiting for my unscheduled visitor.

I didn’t have to wait long. Roman Costas was nothing if not punctual.

He walked in, his shoulders back, head high, stopping to take in the much-changed front lobby.

When he’d owned the casino and hotel, it was modern, sleek, muted grays and creams. Streamlined furniture, thick carpeting underfoot.

When he sold it to me, I closed it for a year, remodeled parts of it, and reopened as O’Reilly’s. I replaced the previous name of Maple II, as had been part of our agreement. He hadn’t seen it yet.

I zoomed in to get a closer look at his reaction.

For a brief moment, I saw his shock and a slight sadness as he scanned the vast area, then his mask fell into place.

He walked forward, taking it all in. Gone were the glass and metal and carpet. Dark woods, soft colors, and heavy, thick-planked flooring were in their place. A massive rock wall was at the back, water cascading gently over the crevices to a pool below. Flanking the waterfall area were live trees and plants, the green stretching upward to the new, light-filled dome. The area was peaceful and serene. It invited our guests to sit and relax, close their eyes and forget about the city beyond the walls and glass. The dome was fitted with stained glass, the colors cascading all around, beautiful yet allowing the light to come in and highlight the plants and water. It was my favorite spot on the main floor.

It was hers as well.

Closer to the front was another alcove that contained a huge fireplace with chairs and sofas arranged around it. There were live edge desks at reception, deep armchairs, and muted greens and cream everywhere. No steel or metal surfaces anywhere. The ambiance of the entire hotel was now that of an Irish manor. Warm, welcoming, homey. Upstairs, I had added an Irish pub, the décor so realistic you’d think it had been there for years, not a matter of months. It was always busy and one of the biggest moneymakers in the entire building, next to the casino.
From NYT bestselling author Melanie Moreland comes a feuding to lovers standalone romance -
John Elliott is a busy man. He runs his farm and his business, keeping to himself, with no time for anything else in his life.

Quinn Harper is a single mother, looking for a fresh start.
The small town she picked seemed perfect—until her first run-in with John.

They strike sparks of the wrong kind and insist that keeping their distance is for the best.

Yet, despite his growly nature and curt tone, he is sweet to her daughter.
And he finds himself looking for reasons to be in Quinn’s company.
Do things that make them both smile. Make him feel happy.

Sparks sizzle into a low, banked fire.
And then an inferno erupts.
Neither wanted it.
But now, they can’t live without it.

Author's Get ready to swoon over a rugged farmer with a hidden heart of gold, falling for a fearless single mom and her charming little girl.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

JOHN

Iheard Laura’s truck pull up outside, the sound of her squealing brakes announcing her arrival. I rolled my eyes as I reached for another coffee mug. I needed to look at her brakes. Maybe her husband, Bob, and I could work on them this weekend. Now that the planting was done and the crops in, I had a little more time on my hands.

I snorted with amusement as I added cream to Laura’s coffee. More time.

I wish.

The screen door banged open, and my nephew Cody rushed in. “Uncle J!”

“Hey, big man, careful with that door. It’s old.”

He laughed, not caring. “Can I get the eggs?”

I nodded. “You know where the basket is. And the deal. Every one you get and clean, you can sell and keep the money.”

He grinned. “I know. But I have to save you six.”

“Yep. Breakfast.”

“Got it!”

He rushed past his mother, who was walking in, juggling her purse, a laptop bag, and a sack of groceries. I hurried forward, grabbing the sack and the laptop bag about to slip off her shoulder. “Stop being so stubborn and ask for help,” I demanded, leaning down to buss her cheek. “And stop buying me groceries. I’m a grown man and can look after myself.”

She chuckled and set down her purse, taking the bag from me. “I’m aware you can, but you don’t. I saw the empty fridge when I was here on the weekend.”

“I’ve been busy in the fields. Restocking is on the list.”

“Well, I bought you a few days. And stop spoiling Cody. You don’t have to pay him for chores.”

“He’s working toward a goal. I’m not going to miss some egg income,” I chuckled dryly. “It teaches him.”

She sighed. “You have always spoiled him.”

“He’s a good kid. He deserves it.”

I watched affectionately as Laura unpacked and filled the fridge with the basics. My freezer was full, but during planting time, I did tend to forget to keep up with incidentals. I had lots of food, but most of it was frozen. It was a good thing the microwave and I were fast friends. In the winter months, I stocked up on premade meals so when I came in from the fields, tired, hot, and sweaty, I could pop in a bowl of stew or chili and let it heat as I showered.

But I had to admit, I appreciated the lunch meat, bread, cheese, and assortment of fruit and vegetables she placed on the shelves. I didn’t need eggs or milk since my chickens and dairy cows supplied me with both. I bought my meat from local farmers, often trading my goods for theirs. During harvest, we all worked together in the community. Everything, down to the cheese I bought, was local and handmade.

I sat down as she finished, tucking her burlap sack into her laptop bag and pulling out her computer. “Down to business.”

“Not a social call, then?” I asked dryly.

“I finished the tax files and the year-end.” She slid a file my way. “Look them over, sign, and I’ll submit.”

“Got it.”

“And I got an inquiry on 221. They’re sending the application today.”

“Oh, great. No viewing?”

“A friend of theirs—Cathy Rawlings from Mitchell—came and saw it. Said it would work well. I told her if they wanted to see it, they could tomorrow.”

I scratched my chin. “The name is familiar.”

“Used to be Cathy Jones. She married Bart and moved to Mitchell. The applicant is a friend of hers.”

“Ah, explains it. So we have a reference.”

She nodded. “They want fast possession.”

“Great. It’s empty, so that works.”

She flipped through some papers as she sipped her coffee. “I renewed the leases on the other three properties. The house on Renfrew has another two years on their lease.”

“Awesome. Satisfied customers.”

She laughed. “Great little houses, well-kept, and decent rent. Why would they want to move?”

“That’s my goal. I’m thinking of bidding on the old schoolhouse. Turning it into two apartments.”
NYT bestselling author Melanie Moreland brings a reason to celebrate in this snowed-in romance.
Christmas is a time for family.
It’s been years since Shane Foster was able to share the season with his.
So, an unexpected snowstorm, rerouted flights, and lost presents aren’t going to defeat him.
In a twist of fate, he ends up in a store run by a woman as alone as he is. She is sweet and warm, and he is captivated by her.
Unable to leave her alone, he convinces her to join him and his family for Christmas, somehow knowing she was meant to be his.
Could he be what she needs as well?
He wants to wrap her in love—not only for the holidays but forever.
Will she make his wishes come true?

Author's Enjoy a merry read while feeding the hungry. Proceeds from the sale of this title are benefiting the Hamilton Food Share.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

CALLIE

With a weary sigh, I flipped the sign to Closed, turned off the outside light, and pulled down the blind. I looked around the store, shaking my head at the chaos left behind by the last-minute shoppers. They didn’t buy very much, but they certainly made a mess. I would have plenty to do to keep myself busy over the next couple of days until I reopened after Christmas.

I stepped away from the door and was almost to the counter when the sound of furious knocking on the glass startled me. I turned to see the silhouette of a man in the glass, his hand never ceasing in its rapping.

“Callie James? Mrs. James, are you there? Please be there!” a deep, low, husky voice pleaded.

“Hello?” I called, not recognizing the voice.

“Oh, thank God. Please, Mrs. James, I need you.”

I approached the door with trepidation. “How can I help?”

“My parcels, all my parcels were lost. Please!” He knocked again. “Mrs. Cooper sent me!”

Mrs. Cooper?

Frowning, I flicked on the light, pulled up the blind, and stifled a gasp at the tall man in the window. Wild, thick hair glinted chestnut in the illumination from above. Broad shoulders and a face that made my heart beat faster were framed in the glass. The man staring at me was ruggedly handsome. A sharp jaw was set off with scruff. Full lips smiled, dimples on both sides giving him a mischievous look. But it was his eyes that captivated me. Under thick brows, they glowed green. As green as the evergreens that wound around the wrought-iron railing of the store. They were tired, pleading, but gazed at me with such warmth, it flooded my entire body. Before I realized what I was doing, I had slipped the lock and pulled open the door.

“Your parcels?” I asked, confused. Had he ordered something from me?

He stepped in, bringing the cold with him. Snow dusted the shoulders of his heavy wool overcoat, but his hand was warm as he captured mine within his grasp.

“Thank you for opening the door. I beg of you for help.”

I moved back, allowing him into the store. Never letting go of my hand, he shut the door behind him and introduced himself.

“My name is Shane Foster. I’m traveling to see my family over in Brighton. Do you know it?”

Brighton was a lovely town about two hours away. “Yes.”

“It’s been a day. My five-hour trip has been almost thirteen, and it’s not over. There’s a huge storm by my sister’s, so I had to stop here for the night. When I was talking to her, she told me my Christmas parcels never arrived. All my gifts for the family!”

I stared at him, mesmerized. His face was so expressive when he spoke.

“The closest mall is an hour in the other direction from my family, and they’ll be closed by the time I get there. I asked at the inn, and Mrs. Cooper said there was a chance you’d still be open. She said if anyone could help me, it would be her ‘Callie-dear.’”

I had to smile at his imitation of Sheila. It was perfect.

“Your light clicked off just as I was parking my SUV. I took the chance you might take pity on me, extend the Christmas spirit, and allow me to borrow a few minutes of your time to shop for my family.” He paused, taking a breath. “Please?”

I couldn’t resist his open, honest plea. It wasn’t as if I had anywhere to be, and if I could help him, then it was a good thing.

His hand tightened. “Please.”

I didn’t know why I was hesitating. He already had me. “Of course. Please look around.”

He lifted my hand to his mouth, his breath floating over my skin and making me shiver. His eyes met mine, warm, melting pools of green. “Thank you.”

When his lips touched my skin, I swore I felt an electric shock jolt through my body. His grip on my hand tightened, then he stepped back, releasing me. Oddly, I missed his touch right away.

He shrugged off his coat, laid it carefully over the banister by the door, then turned the lock, and drew the blind at my request. One late-night shopper was enough. Looking around, he ran his fingers through his hair, causing the already unruly strands to lift and ruffle. He offered me a wide smile. “Can you please give me some advice?”

“How many people are you looking for?”

“Six children, six adults, and a cat.” His voice turned teasing. “Any of those you can help me with would be much appreciated.”

I arched my eyebrow. “I think you’re going to need more than a few moments.”

He instantly looked chagrined. “Am I keeping you from your family and friends?” He shook his head. “What a stupid question. It’s Christmas Eve—of course I am. If I could grab a few books, I’ll be on my way. The adults can wait until the parcels arrive.”
Get ready to laugh out loud in the office from New York Times bestselling author Melanie Moreland
My new boss—Alexander Bane
Aptly named since he’s the bane of my existence.
Please isn’t in his vocabulary.
He grunts, growls, and demands.
If only he didn’t look so sexy when doing so.
If only his mouth weren’t so addictive when kissing mine.
He’s quickly becoming my favorite boss.
Which is wrong.

My new assistant is an unwelcomed distraction.
Snarky, witty, always smiling.
Constantly putting me in my place.
Making me second-guess my decisions.
I dislike it. Intensely.
Unless I’m kissing her.
Then Magnolia Myers becomes my favorite person.
Which I hate.

Two people working together, disliking each other.
Until they don’t.
Then the fun begins.

HR has never been so entertained.

Author's note: For those on the lookout for a hero who's so charming when he's bossy that it makes you want to follow his orders just to keep him talking.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

BANE

The knock I had been waiting for happened. I recognized it since I knew it well.

Rap, rap. Pause. Rap, rap.

I delayed responding for a moment, just to annoy the person on the other side of the door. Before they could knock again, I called out, “Come in.”

The door opened, and Laura walked in, a stack of files in her arms. She sat across from me, not waiting for an invitation. When she spoke, her voice was purposely restrained, hiding the fact that she, no doubt, would like to ream me a new one but, as head of HR, knew she could not. Still, there was an undertone to her voice—one of barely concealed impatience.

I had to let her have it.

“Alexander,” she began.

“Laura,” I replied, not looking up from the rows of numbers on the page in front of me.

“We need to have a discussion.” She paused. “Now.”

When I didn’t respond, she reached across the desk, closing the file folder in front of me. “And I need your complete attention.”

With a sigh, I sat back, pulling off my glasses and rubbing my eyes. “I already know why you’re here, Laura. Save your voice, and we can move on.”

“That was your sixth assistant in two months, Alexander. Sixth.”

“She was horrible. She couldn’t assist me getting out of a wet paper bag.”

Laura rolled her eyes.

“You need to send me someone better.”

“I’ve sent you the best candidates we’ve had. You’ve found fault with every single person.” She opened a file folder. “Constantly late, bad attitude, can’t handle direction… Smiles too much.” She looked up. “Shall I go on? The faults you find are so minuscule, it’s ridiculous. You barely give people a chance to settle in, and you fire them. Do you see a pattern here?” She removed her glasses, glaring at me.

“Yes. You send me the wrong people. HR is obviously falling down on the job. I gave you my list of requirements.”

She regarded me, her voice becoming pointedly annoyed. “No. You are the pattern. Your list is ridiculous. No one is going to work the hours you want, be at your beck and call, run around after you, and never talk back. Nor will they have the education level you desire, be able to travel at a moment’s notice, and—” she referred to the list “—make a mean sandwich.” She shook her head with a sigh. “You’re hiring an assistant, Alex. Not a gofer.”

“Sally did all those things and more.”

“Sally knew you and could handle you. Plus, she was fifty-six and knew how to put you in your place. You frighten all these young women and men we send to help you. You never give them a chance.” She narrowed her eyes at me. “And it is not HR’s fault. The common denominator for failure here is you.”

“Ha,” I snorted. “I could do better.”

“I thought you’d say that.” She handed me the stack of files she’d been carrying.

“What are these?”

“Four of the top applicants for the job. You interview them.”

I accepted the folders, pursing my lips. “If you think this is a challenge, you’re wrong. I’ll find the right candidate.” I leaned back. “What do I get if I’m right?”

“You interview, you hire, and they last more than six weeks? I’ll admit the fault was ours.”

I scoffed. “Prepare to apologize.” I grinned, winking at her. “I expect quite the show.”

Laura laughed, standing. “When this doesn’t work, then I get the apology. I think an office memo stating that your arrogance and ego were the problem all along will suffice. That, plus you buy lunch for the entire HR department. Our choice.”

I chuckled. I liked Laura, and I enjoyed our little sparring matches.

“To make it fair, I need to see a list of other candidates.”

“Fine. There were only six others who qualified for the position. I’ll send them over.”

“Great. Now, out of my office. I have an assistant to hire.”

She left, and I went back to the spreadsheet I’d been working on. The budget was tight on this project, and I wanted to make sure nothing was overlooked. I would get to the assistant thing later.

How hard could it be?

A short while later, another woman from HR dropped off more files. She paused as she was leaving. “Oh, Mr. Bane,” she said, sounding nervous.

“Yes?”

“Laura told me to mention that the interviews were already scheduled—she had me contact the other candidates as well. I got hold of all of them but one. You’ll have to make that phone call.”

“Fine.”

“For late Friday afternoon, between two and six.”

I gaped at her. “What?”

That was tomorrow. And I had planned on taking the afternoon off. I was certain I had mentioned that to Laura last week. She was doing this to knock me off my game. I waved my hand, dismissing her.

“No problem.”

She grinned, obviously in on the little wager. “Have a good afternoon.”
