LEGEND DEVERAUX was raised to rule. Son of the late king of Dark Magic, he is the youngest king Rathe has ever seen.
Haide wasn't raised at all. Born on Exile Island, where the royals of Rathe toss their most vile creatures, chaos isn't all she knows. It's
When their worlds collide, the king's ancient magic calls to her.
The bond ignites instantly, volatile, undeniable, dangerously wrong
She isn't the mate he expected. Her power is stunted by the cursed land that shaped her. Yet she sets fire to his veins, the only person who makes his fractured soul feel whole. So, Legend takes her to Rathe University to awaken what lies beneath her skin.
His brothers warn him against her. His people detest her very existence. He doesn't care. He wants her at his side, on her knees, and in his bed. She is his.
Then the murders begin. The gifted fall without warning Bloodlines vanish. And with every death, Legend's magic begins to die with them. Something ancient, violent is rising in Rathe, and every accusation points to the king's fated mate.
If she truly is his at all

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Haide

“Run, little rabbits,” I whisper, drawing back the bowstring, each step calculated against the soft forest floor.

The bow in my hands feels like an extension of my body. Exile Island pulses around me, its strange consciousness brushing against my mind like fingers through hair. It’s as if no time at all has passed since I returned from Rathe and all of London’s drama.

Three figures dart between the twisted trees ahead. Newcomers to the island. Fresh meat. They don’t understand anything yet. Don’t know that everything here is a game without consequences.

Distant wingbeats cut through the air above. I exhale as I tighten the bow further.

I track the first one. He’s tall with panic written across his face. The arrow tip follows his frantic movements. I could pierce his throat before he takes another breath.

I smile and shift my aim.

The second target stumbles over a root and falls to her knees. Terror makes people clumsy. She looks up, somehow sensing my presence, and our eyes lock through the foliage. I wink and draw the string tighter.

“Please,” she mouths.

I shift my aim again.

The third one is smarter.

He moves in a zigzag pattern, making himself a harder target. But not hard enough. I track him easily, the arrow finding his heart.

“Which one dies first?” I ask the forest. The trees don’t answer, but I feel the island’s hunger ripple through the soil beneath my feet.

I release the tension in the bowstring, lowering my weapon just enough to let them believe they’ve escaped. They’ll run deeper into the island’s embrace. The game is always better when they think they have a chance.

“You’re toying with them again.” Zevryn’s voice comes from behind me, rich and deep.

I don’t turn. “Took you long enough to catch up.”

He steps beside me, brown skin gleaming with sweat from the hunt. “Not all of us were born part animal.”

“Excuses.” I nock another arrow, tracking the fleeing figures through the trees.

Zevryn grabs my wrist, forcing the bow down. “Do you need a recap on how to pull this bow, Luda?”

“Fuck you!” I jerk away from his grip. “I’d still be able to beat your ass.”

“Bullshit.” His eyes narrow. “What’s the matter, Haide?”

Okay, now he’s pissing me off.

He sighs in clear boredom. “You had three clean shots. You didn’t take any of them.”

I bare my teeth. “I was savoring the moment.”

“You were giving them a chance.” His mouth quirks up. “The great Haide secret softie.”

I swiftly draw my knife and press it to his throat. “Call me soft again.”

He doesn’t flinch, his mouth spreading wide. “Sof—”

My blade melts into his skin, blood spraying over my face. Life dies from the pits of his eyes, not with shock, but something else.

He smirks before his body hits the ground with a thud.

“Asshole!” I snap, cleaning my blade on my shoulder and slipping it back into the holster.

Lifting the bow again, I crack my neck and find my first target. “Looks like we’re gonna have to keep this one short.”

I release the bow right into her panicked face. It splits in half from the force.

I smirk, grabbing the next one and quickly finding the smartest newcomer.

He zigzags again. The moment he peers over his shoulder, I aim my arrow right into his eye.

Ten points to Haide!

I barely have the third locked in when the sound of wings beats through the air.

With a thud, boots hit gravel just as I unload the next arrow.

“Booyah!” I yell, smile wide just in time for Zev to swing at me.

I dodge his punch and swing behind him, wrapping my arm around his throat. “Nah, uh, bestie! You know you love me.”

“Fuck you, Haide. You know I hate cracking through those damn fucking things.”

I release my hold when I feel the tension leave his body. Only a pool of blood remains in the spot where I killed him.

“You can get me next time,” I tease, the sound of large wings bashing through the air once more.

“Bullshit,” Zev murmurs, plucking scales off his neck. “You damn well know I won’t get one on you.”

Actually, he could. He just chooses not to.

A blue dragon slams into the cliff with enough force to send rocks tumbling into the darkness below. His massive claws scrape deep grooves in the stone as he lands.

I turn over my shoulder just as the beast flings two fresh borns off his talons like they’re nothing more than garbage. They hit the ground hard, rolling to a stop near the blood pool from Zev. Smoke curls from the dragon’s nostrils in thick, angry streams while he stomps his foot again, making the whole cliff shake beneath us.

“Aw, come on!” I bat my lashes up at him, knowing full well he can see through my bullshit. “You know you love that I keep you guys busy! What would you do without me? Nap all day?”
The fourth interconnected standalone in the universe of TikTok sensation Say You Swear, from USA Today bestselling author Meagan Brandy. Full of angst, heat, and set against the background of college football, this series is perfect for fans of Chloe Walsh and Elle Kennedy.

On the outside, it looks like I've got it all together. I'm killing it on the football field, pushing harder than ever before and breaking league records.

But on the inside, I'm a mess, the pressure of the game too much, the betrayal from someone I trusted weighing me down with every breath.

I'm drowning and there's no one to pull me up.

Until her.

I tried to stay away, to keep my distance so I wouldn't ruin us both, but I was powerless against her.

She's everything I didn't know I wanted and more than I could ever deserve.

That right there is how I knew I couldn't keep her, but that didn't stop me from falling in love with her.

Just when I think maybe I'm becoming the man I want to be, my world comes crashing down around me, and I'm faced with a choice that has the power to break us both.

Suddenly, I'm right back where I started.

I'm the guy with nothing to give―and she's the girl who deserves the world

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER ONE

Paige

“It’s quite simple, really.”

I stare across the long wooden table at the man on the other end of it—because sitting twenty feet away from me makes sense when we’re “in a meeting”—and he’s looking at me like I’m an incompetent little lamb he has to dumb himself down to speak to. I’m not.

I was the valedictorian of my high school and I’m going to graduate from college at the end of this year with a perfect GPA. He should know this. After all, he ran a background check, paid someone somewhere for access to all my personal records, and that was before he even made himself known to me.

This man, he’s what people call old money. There hasn’t been a day in his life when he didn’t have more than a person could ever need in their lifetime. I know because, like him, as soon as I found out who he was, I did my own research.

Of course, mine consisted of social media stalking and a few dozen Google searches, but it was all right there in big, bold letters: Billionaire and CEO Grant Randolph V rumored to retire, but to whom will he leave his legacy?

That was the headline that came up the very first time I took to the internet in an attempt to learn a thing or two about the man who claimed he was my grandfather. The grandfather whom I had no idea existed until a little over a year ago.

I stare into his blue eyes—eyes that mirror my own down to the golden line curving around our pupils. I’d always known that I had my mother’s eyes. I guess I never thought deep enough to wonder where hers came from, but now I know.

It’s funny, when you have all you need in a parent, you never really stop to wonder what the other one might have brought to the table had they been there. Apparently, the answer is an obscene amount of money and unrealistic expectations.

What did he say? Oh yeah, he called this simple.

“I’m sorry, but I’m not so sure I agree.” I don’t agree. At all, but I have a feeling saying as much, and so directly, would be an error on my part. This man requires the sharpest of eggshells beneath your feet, and I learned that the very first day we met.

He looks at me with frustration, and maybe a little annoyance. “Which part of what I’m offering is confusing to you?”

“‘Confusing’ isn’t exactly the word I would use.”

“And what word would you use?”

“I don’t know…excessive?”

A low laugh comes from the man in the corner of the room, who has yet to introduce himself. For the first time, the man in the suit’s eyes lift from his laptop screen, locking with mine, and I hold my breath, unsure of what to expect to come out his mouth.

He’s…very handsome. Perfect teeth, chocolaty-brown hair, and bone structure even Cillian Murphy could appreciate. He smiles and it’s a little unnerving to have it pointed at me. Me in my leggings and baggy T-shirt and messy braid because Grant insisted I come here straight from my lesson at the local youth center.

“I think maybe the word you’re looking for is old-fashioned.” His lips curve higher as he glances toward my grandfather. “Isn’t that right, old man?”

“All right, fine.” Grant chuckles as he sits back in his seat, folding his fingers together and resting them on his stomach. “I’ll introduce you to my lovely granddaughter, whom you’ve been asking me about for weeks.”

“Weeks. Months. Who’s counting?” The man grins, closing his computer.

“You, apparently. Paige, meet Prescott. He’s the man of the hour around here. Keeps me in line among other things. Prescott, this is my lovely granddaughter, Paige.”

I wince, standing when he approaches with an outstretched hand. “Not so lovely at the moment, but Mr. Randolph—”

“Paige,” Grant chastises.

My cheeks flush a little. “But my…grandfather insisted I come here straight from work.”

“As he did me.”

I laugh lightly, looking over his perfectly tailored, deep-mahogany three-piece suit. “Right.”

“It’s nice to finally meet you, Paige.” His brown eyes hold mine. “I look forward to you schooling your grandfather on his excessive ways.”

“Easy, son. If you give us a few minutes,” Grant tells Prescott, and without another look, he heads out of the room—a massive conference room in the cliffside coastal home he’s apparently just converted into a satellite office here in Oceanside, making this the second piece of real estate he’s purchased based on where I live, the first being a large home just nine miles from Avix University.

I’m not sure if I should be honored or concerned.

“Paige, sweetheart.” The way he says sweetheart is more condescending than a term of endearment. Not that he’s endeared to me.

I’m pretty sure I am a representation of his biggest aversions—artistic, lower class, single. It’s not his fault, really. We just come from different worlds.
Fake dating one football player while his teammate tries to win me back? Yeah, probably not the best idea, yet here we are.
Talk about complicated…

I loathe the day I ran smack dab into the hard chest of Alister Howl, Avix University’s second-string quarterback. The moment he smiled my way I should’ve run. And, well, I did … straight into his bed.

That was before I learned he was nothing but a liar. He ruined everything before it even began.

Unfortunately for me, he takes my dismissal as a challenge and comes back twice as hard.
I didn’t think it would work, but the man’s relentless, and now I’m wavering when I’m not so sure I should.

How can I be with him if I can’t trust him?

And that right there is exactly how I end up at a party, locking lips with the campus playboy and ultimate bachelor, Brady freaking Lancaster.

One second, I’m hiding from Alister in some sorority house and the next … I’m “Brady’s girl”.

I have no idea how it happened or where things go from here.
But one thing is for sure, fake dating one football player while his teammate tries to win me back is going to be one hell of a ride…

This is the third standalone set in the universe of Say You Swear from USA Today bestselling author Meagan Brandy. This is Cameron's book.

Blurb coming soon

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER ONE

Cameron

“You’ve either got bigger balls than the ones I saw or you’re looking to get your ass kicked.” I cross my arms over my chest, not giving two shits that the door he needs is the one behind me. In fact, I’m purposely blocking this entrance to keep my friends inside and this fucker out here on the lawn. If he gets by me or follows my ass inside, the boys will pounce, and it won’t be pretty. From what I’ve heard, they’re already giving him shit on the practice field, and the season hasn’t even officially started yet.

Wait, why am I protecting him from that?

I sidestep, leaning against the doorframe, and decide that, if he wants to go in, I won’t hate what happens after. We both know he deserves to get reamed.

Alister’s shoulders fall, and he shuffles closer. “You haven’t returned any of my calls and I didn’t see you all summer.”

“And somehow you convinced yourself that meant I wanted to see you face-to-face rather than understanding it for what it is: a big, fat sign telling you to back off.”

His green eyes are crestfallen, and he nods, a sad tip to his lips. “I tried, Cam. I left you alone after you told me to fuck off on Christmas.”

“You called and texted me all summer long, Alister.”

“I said I tried, right?” He gives a pitiful smile, and I hate that he looks cute when he does it. “I gave you space after everything that went down and didn’t bother you all spring semester. That was hard enough when you never even let me apologize, so when June rolled around and I realized you went home for the summer, I couldn’t help myself. It’s been almost eight months, Cam, and look at me.” He lifts his hands, tilting his head slightly as his eyes hold mine. “Still over here missing you and wishing I didn’t fuck things up.”

I regard him for a long moment, despising the vulnerability the sight of him stirs and hating how I’m standing here wondering if what he’s saying is true.

Does he really wish he didn’t fuck things up?

Does he miss me?

Or is he just doubling down on the pretending, this time to get his teammates off his ass?

My bet is on the latter, even if the thought bothers me a little more than I’d like, so of course I remind him of how we got here in the first place—me hiding out from him and him doing his best to track me down on the daily.

“You lied to me, used me to get insider information about my family.”

“Mason isn’t your family,” Alister snaps instantly, and by the way he scrunches his face, I’d say he regrets it just as fast.

A humorless laugh leaves me, and I shake my head. “Yeah. This conversation is over.”

“Cameron, wait!” He reaches out, latching on to my wrist. “I’m sorry, okay?”

I yank myself free, quickly spinning to face him with a glare. “Clearly, you’re still sour over the lie that your ex-girlfriend told you, but honestly, Alister, get over it! You spent your first season as a college football player hating your team captain instead of leaning into him as a mentor like you should have. You made enemies you didn’t have to make all because a shitty girl—who clearly never cared about you by the way—was too much of a pussy to tell you she fucked some random guy she met at a bar and ended up pregnant. So I’ll say it again: get over it! Mason isn’t the enemy here.”

“You don’t think I’ve tried?!” He throws his hand out, a strain pulling at his brows. “I have, Cam.”

“You’ve said that word twice already: tried. Well, you know what? Try harder.” I narrow my eyes, moving farther into the house. “Because Mason isn’t just my best friend’s twin brother. I’ve known him all my life. He is my family. They all are.” I point to the stairway behind me, knowing he’s smart enough to realize it’s not only Mason up there waiting for me but also the rest of our core friend group. “If you can’t even handle my saying the words, then you’re wasting your time talking to me.”

Why did I agree to step outside to talk to him?

Oh yeah, ’cause he said he would just knock on Mason’s door if I didn’t, and yeah, that wouldn’t end well.

Alister’s shoulders fall. “Nothing about you is wasted, Cameron.”

“Yeah, well, the two months I spent with you sure as hell were.”

I turn away, trying to hide the way my hands are shaking by tucking my hair behind my ears, and stomp up the stairs that lead to the captain’s quarters of the football house, hoping Alister gives up, if only for the moment.

But the gorgeous dickhead of a man waits until I’ve gotten one foot over the threshold of Mason’s room, every eye in the place now pointed my way, and shouts, “I’m going to change your mind, Cameron Cox, and I won’t give up on us until you do!”
Degradation of the Desperate Daughter.
That could be the theme song to my life.

Always second choice. Second best. Second born.
Maybe that’s what possessed me to track down my father’s most formidable enemy, the infamous Enzo Fikile.

He’s the nation’s most eligible bachelor, and the crime world I was born into’s biggest threat, but not because he wants to tear it down.

No. This man wants to claim his place within it and if the whispers working their way around are anything to go by, he’s well on his way.

And I just offered him a golden ticket, one he accepted with an unexpected spark in his eye. We signed our marriage contract that night, and the deal with the devil was done.

I’m engaged to the man the rest of the world fears and there’s no going back.

I expect to be tossed in a tower and left there, but my future husband has other plans. Dangerous ones.
He wants the world to believe our love is real and not bargained, but he says even that’s not enough.
He wants me to convince him.

What was supposed to be a simple arrangement spirals into something more, and before I know it, I’m caught in his web, secrets spinning all around me.

I hate him as much as I crave him, but as enemies close in from the most unlikely of places, I realize something.
No one is allowed to hurt my husband.

Except, of course … me.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Pronunciations

Fikile - fee-key-lay

Bass - like the fish

Damiano - Dom-e-ano

Rayo - Ray-oh

Chapter

One

Boston

“Fiancée swapping prick.”

I down what’s left in my glass, set it on the edge of the tub, and sink to my neck in the steamy water. If only the heat could melt the anger and, yeah, the nagging little bitch whispering I told you so over and over from my mind the way it’s threatening to melt the makeup from my face.

Of course, the man who shall not be named would pop back onto the grid after months of no contact the moment my father reached out to him with a better offer than the one I had made.

Marry me and gain access to my family’s underground empire, that was going to be my proposal.

Literally, considering I was offering him my hand, but all I had a chance to say was “marry me” before he took a single step closer and agreed, effectively cutting off the remainder of the fifteen-minute pitch I’d prepared, because yes. My life had become nothing but a business transaction.

The man crowded me after those two weighted words, hiding me from the view of his security detail, and instantly making me regret having snuck away from mine. He cocked his head and stared at me for ten silent seconds, those dark eyes as daunting as his massive frame.

“You wanna be mine?” he’d said when he finally spoke, his voice no more than a rumbly whisper. “Now you are.”

That was it.

Seven words to seal our fate, then he turned around and walked away.

No negotiation. No confirmation. Not what I would even call a conversation.

I didn’t have to mention a marriage to me would end the feud between my father’s operation and his own, and an alliance would form. We didn’t discuss how, and I wasn’t given the opportunity to affirm the second part would take time plus trust, but it didn’t matter.

He knew.

The ins and outs would come as the contract was finalized, and with a single signature he would get what every powerful man from here to the coastline was after without success.

The Revenaw name behind his own…assuming he stopped trying to bury it, of course.

He needed no other information, but then again, why would he?

It was no secret to us or any of the crime families that the Fikile name wanted to wash ours off the streets so they could rise from our ruin, and legitimately take over a section of the criminal organization we were a part of, rather than fight for the claim of the territory my father says he has no right to but took up residence in.

My offer saved him time, money, and the lives of his men. With one signature and a contractual “I do,” he would be indefinitely tied to the most influential names in the underground crime world.

I offered him this in the shape of myself and he agreed.

And then my father did one better.

He put gold on the table, and everyone knows only a fool would pass on gold for silver.

So, again, of fucking course he shows up now.

But where the fuck was he when the date he demanded I return from my “visit home” passed and I still didn’t return to his prison? I surpassed the little deadline by weeks now, and my supposed fiancé hasn’t attempted to contact me once. Not even when my father told him I changed my mind, and no longer wanted to be his bride, breaking what was supposed to be a life-binding contract.

But why would he? It’s not like he came to me and asked for the marriage of convenience. I sought him out. I set up the meeting, ditched my guards, and met him alone on Alcatraz Island, hoping he didn’t feed me to the sharks right then and there.

Obviously, that didn’t happen, but now I can’t help but think it would have been a less humiliating way to end this, for me anyway.

Irritation prickles at my skin so I run my palms along my arms, wishing the lavender petals would do their job and calm my nerves.

I’d bet the asshole was betting on this happening, maybe even planned for it.

What other purpose would the clause in our marriage contract hold?

It wasn’t a safety net to “ensure his investment”—I should have run at the word choice alone.

If Boston Revenaw is unable to fulfill her duties, her twin sister must take her place.

Every marriage of convenience has an added little twist from each party, a pretty little threat of sorts, in attempt to keep both in line. I nearly scoffed at his. Why? Because it was a laughable idea.

Or so I thought.

Never in a million fucking years did I expect my dad to offer up his diamond daughter in place of his damaged one…but he did.

He called the man I was to marry and told him he could have my sister instead. The prize Revenaw.
She lost her first love.
I'd give it all to be her second...

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had one dream.
Go to college with my best friends, earn a starting position on a division one team, and hear my name announced to the world come draft day.

The path was clear, and things were falling in place perfectly.
Until she showed up.

I never meant to fall for my friend’s little sister and by the time I realized I had, it was too late.
I am a man in love with a girl … who is in love with someone else.

But I can’t compete with a ghost, and her heart was buried along side the boy she gave it to. The father of her unborn son.

Instead of fighting for something she’s unable to give, I do my best to be her friend, but then her little man comes along, and changes everything.

She says I should walk away, focus on my love for football, but I can’t, because what she doesn’t understand is I have a new dream now.

One that begins and ends with them.

Release Date Oct 1, 2024

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER ONE

Payton

Now, July 2

Deaton cries, arching his back and kicking his feet all around, doing his absolute best to fight against the fresh onesie I’m sliding his arms into, his third outfit change of the day. And mine.

“Okay, okay, little man.” I manage to get the two outside buttons done and decide the middle one isn’t necessary. Tickling his tiny, sock-covered feet, I grab ahold, wiggling them back and forth with a big smile to pretend we’re playing a game. It works like a charm, and he stops flailing for half a second, just long enough for me to quickly slide on his cotton shorts.

He screams then, his arms stretched out, fists opening and closing over and over, making grabby hands to let me know he wants me to pick him back up.

“One second, mister.” I turn to my own mess of a wardrobe in search of another clean top, but my drawer is empty aside from the T-shirts I wear to bed, and when I look in my closet, bare hangers stare back. That is, on the side dedicated to the clothes that actually fit. My eyes fall to the clean basket of laundry at the foot of the bed, and I sigh, reaching in and digging around for the least wrinkled one. I still need to shower, so what’s the point of worrying about ironing or, hell, matching.

Ironing. I scoff. Yeah right. The most I’ll take the time to do is throw the entire load back in the dryer and hope it works out the mess I created by tossing them carelessly into the basket in the first place.

“Well, mister man, looks like we’re officially adding laundry back to the never-ending to-do list.”

Deaton cries harder, reminding me why it’s so important to keep him to his normal routine no matter what’s going on outside of it.

“I know, I know. It’s my fault you missed your nap, and we’re all going to pay for it.” I yank the shirt over my head, my lack of finesse causing it to tug the bun I seem to be living in down with it, but I don’t bother to pull the now loose strands out from under the thin cotton, let alone fix the damn thing.

I scoop up the little boy who suddenly hates being put down for any and every reason that doesn’t include water. Foolishly, I thought he’d grow more independent with age, but it seems the opposite is true. Too bad I can only give him so many baths a day to free up my hands, and even then, it’s not to get anything done. It’s the ten-ish minutes of sitting on the tile floor with zero responsibilities that make the fight to dry him off and put on his diaper and clothes worth it.

Well, no responsibilities other than the ever-present fear I’ll mistakenly look away for the split second it would take for him to twist and slip under the water.

Yeah, baths aren’t all that relaxing, but the little smile when he splashes water all over the place is better than any restful moment could be.

I bounce around the room, walking back and forth from one corner to the next, but Deaton continues to fuss, rubbing his face in my chest and playing with the curls of his hair.

“Are you tired, sweet boy?” I kiss his head, cradling him against me, but my little man hates to miss a thing. The moment he recognizes the move for what it is—my attempt to sway him until he’s sleeping—he lifts his little head, blowing air between his lips and sending drool sliding down his chin.

“Oh, we’re blowing bubbles while we cry, huh?” I swiftly snag a bib and snap it into place, not once pausing the bouncing of my body. My eyes catch the clock and widen. “Shit.”

My lips snap closed, and I sigh. I was supposed to be ready an hour ago. Knowing what’s coming this evening, I suck it up and take a deep breath.

“It’s now or never, mister man.” Blanket flung over my shoulder and a toy in my hand, I slide into a pair of flip-flops, doing what I told myself I wouldn’t do today.

I head over to Lolli and Nate’s house next door.

Inside, I pause to listen, the bickering in the hall cluing me in on where to go, and I throw the door open to Lolli’s office.

“Someone, for the love of hot coffee, help. Please.” The words leave me before I fully take in the sight, and sadly, I don’t even have the energy to gape. Or laugh.

Lolli, the girl terrified of marriage and most anything that has to do with acknowledging feelings, though she is getting better at that, stands on a stool in the center of the room wearing a giant, white wedding gown. Her cousin and new roommate, Mia, kneels beside her with a needle and measuring tape in her hand. Mia is lucky Lolli loves her and wants her new business endeavor as a seamstress to work out, or Lolli would never be caught dead in that gown.
The King of Darkness is dead.
It’s time for a new one to rise…

London Crow isn’t who I thought she was.
She’s worse.

My hate for her knows no bounds.
My need for her has no end.

But it’s my inability to have her that might just end us all, as the fates refuse to be ignored.

Now, there’s a darkness sweeping the streets of Rathe, threatening to destroy the Kingdom we know and love, and it’s all because of her.

The mate I can’t have.
The bond I can’t let go.

There is only one way to restore balance, and it begins and ends with her.

The problem? I broke the girl into a thousand tiny pieces without a second thought. Earning her forgiveness won’t be easy, but that’s fine.

If she won’t give it freely, I will take it.
One mistake at a time.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

One

London

Ben crouches down and I run full speed, hopping onto his back the way I have a hundred times before. My arms tether around his neck, as his wrap behind my knees, and I press a fat, sloppy kiss to his cheek. Smiling against it, I hold him tighter, fighting the tears threatening to slip free. The last thing I want after a day like we’ve had is for him to see me cry. Again.

The fact of the matter is … our worlds are changing. No, that’s not right. Our worlds have changed, and there’s no way around what happens next.

I’m going to lose my best friend.

I have to lose my best friend; he just doesn't know it yet. That’s what’s best for him. I’m a disaster that’s only going to get worse, by the looks of things, and he’s been through enough because of me.

I mean shit, he was—

“Lon, stop.”

Warmth fills me at his soft words. Like the syllables wrap around my heart and remind me why he’s home.

Ben has always been good at reading me, sometimes too good.

Pressing my temple to his head, I look forward into the dark night and a chill runs over me. Tucking my head into his neck, I close my eyes, fighting the moisture threatening to build there.

“I love you, you know that,” I whisper. “I love you and I’m so proud of you.”

“It was just one goal in a game that meant nothing.” He chuckles, but it’s more than that and he knows it.

He’s overcome and accomplished so much, and he still has a lifetime of happiness headed his way. God knows if anyone deserves it, it’s him.

We reach the door, and he eases me down, spinning to pull me into his arms. “Everything is going to be okay, London, I promise.”

He can’t possibly keep such a promise, but I don’t say that. I don’t say anything, just nod into his chest.

“Nine tomorrow?” he asks.

I nod, looking up into his hazel eyes. “Nine tomorrow.”

“Lon.” Ben gives me a warning look and it takes effort to roll my eyes when the last thing I’m feeling right now is playful.

The last few days have weighed so heavily on my mind, and I hate what’s to come. “I’m fine.”

Slowly, he presses his lips to my forehead and pushes me through the door.

My uncle Marcus greets me in the entryway, grinning wide until he sees my face, and his arms open instantly. I don’t hesitate but throw myself into them and cry.

“Awe, come on now, Little Crow. It can't be that bad,” he soothes, the same way he has done all my life.

“I’m going to ruin his life.”

My uncle laughs and pulls back, hooking my chin between his fingers. “Honey, no, you’re not. You’re the light of the boy's life. You're all he has now.”

“I know, and because of that, he’s going to stay here and go to a junior college. He’s so much better than that.”

“He’s doing what feels right.” My uncle smiles softly. “He doesn’t want to leave you, especially now that his grandma Betsy is gone.”

“This is a full fucking ride! A college team... a college team he didn’t even try out for, that he never even heard of, and they want him!” I stress. “Uncle Marcus, I don’t think you get it. He told me admission and acceptance timelines closed months ago. He’s already enrolled at the JC and he just happens to get this offer now? This is huge. It’s … kismet or whatever.”

Something swims in my uncle’s gaze, but it’s gone before I can decide what it was. “I don’t know about that,” he says, almost cautiously. “I think you should encourage him to stay here.”

“Uncle!” I snap, my head tugging back.

“Not forever, but maybe JC for a year and then he can apply somewhere else. Somewhere … not so far away.”

I’m shaking my head before he’s even finished. “No way, this is epic for him.”

“It is, but—”

“No buts.” I stomp my foot like a brat. “Make him go!”

My uncle lifts a brow and I feel the frown taking over my face before I know it’s coming.

“I’m different,” I argue what I know he’s thinking. “I suck at school and hardly passed. Honestly, I don’t even know how I did, but Ben? He worked his ass off. He can be persuaded, I know it.”

“You didn’t even want to go to the school tour they invited you to, and that was basically your free pass to party at a college for a weekend, so how the hell am I to convince Ben to move hours away from home when all you guys ever talk about is staying close together?”

My brows pull at his words, and he looks at me funny.

“Wait...” I tip my head. “Daragan State is the same school that sent me that invitation for the senior campus cruise?”
“You will go to Rathe University, live among the giftless and those of light magic. You, Knight Deveraux, will learn to coexist.”

I’ve never heard more wasted words in my life. Then again, the gifted counsel never did have much to say that wasn’t. The only members amongst them who speak a thing worth listening to are my parents, the King and Queen of the Stygian’s, the people of Dark Magic.

Unfortunately for me and my brothers, they’ve chosen to play nice instead of sinking their talons into anyone who dares demand a thing from their heirs. In this instance at least.

Every gifted is forced to leave our realm behind after graduation to spend the next four years in a world that isn’t ours, while pretending it’s enough for those with something deeper clawing beneath their skin.

It isn’t. Not by a long shot, and while it’s as boring as I thought it would be, we find ways to entertain ourselves.

A little Fae Dust, the power of persuasion, and it’s a party worthy of a royal … or four.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

One

London

Can this shit go any fucking slower?

My eyes dart to the game clock for what feels like the hundredth time, Trevor’s never-ending mouth still running as it’s been since the drop of the puck that started today’s exhibition game.

Why I agreed to sit with my arrogant ex tonight, I have no idea. We’ll just add it to the list of shit decisions I’m known to make.

If Ben didn’t spend his entire paycheck on a season ticket so his “best friend can park her ass front and center and watch him whoop ass,” I would have left in the first period because goddamn. Trevor spent the whole intermission whining. How many times can a girl listen to her bitch-boy-ex moan all the reasons I should “reconsider breaking up with him because girls want to date him, and he won’t wait around forever.”

Like, hel-fuucking-lo? Was my bitch, you can have his deficient dick ass and the rock through his passenger window—purely for good measure—too subtle?

Apparently, the answer to that is a big fat yes.

The man, if you can call him one, has been begging me to come to my senses for two weeks now.

I didn’t exactly want him before a girl in my dorm said she saw him in the parking lot with some other chick, so I sure as shit don’t want him now. I was just waiting for someone to come take him off my hands and I knew his wandering eye would bring that to fruition.

Huh, maybe that’s why the dorm girl, whose name I can’t remember, looked at me like I was crazy when she rushed over to rat him out.

Pretty sure my response was a smile.

I might have even skipped out of the common room.

It’s like I said, I didn’t much care for him. He was fun to pass the time with at first, and that’s about it. Maybe it’s shitty I didn’t break it off with him sooner, but I knew he was going to cheat, just like I knew he was going to come crawling back afterward.

My life may be chaotic, but my senses are on point and have never led me astray.

The question was never will he. It was when will he.

So, yeah, I like making other people the bad guy. Fucking sue me.

Better yet, shoot me. Right now. This guy is still talking.

“I’m serious, London. You have no idea how many girls have hit on me on campus. I’m trying to give you a chance here.”

I look at the clock. Three minutes until Ben’s dream of an undefeated season is smashed to shit. They’re about to be served a hard loss from Rathe U, the other college we share this town with, officially making it painfully obvious that when they face them in the regular season…they have zero chance of winning.

But why does this feel like the longest game in the history of hockey?

The moment I ask myself that question, the universe has a laugh at my expense when the reason himself bitches a little more.

“Are you going to talk to me at all?” Trevor snaps angrily, crossing his arms like the man-child he is. Ick.

“What do you want me to say?” That you smell like you bathed in your grandpa’s cologne, and you’re as basic and boring as pretty boys come? “That it’s all good you fucked some chick in the back seat of your car in the parking lot outside my dorm?”

He sits forward swiftly, and in my peripheral, I catch his creamy-colored skin growing crimson when a few students around us don’t even attempt to hide their reactions. They’ve been sighing and shaking their heads the entire time, forced to listen to him cry right along with me. They’re laughing at his ass now.

I think I might owe the strangers a beer after this.

Three seconds left.

“You’re a real bitch, you know that?” he hisses in my ear.

I don’t care enough to roll my eyes.

Finally, the clock hits zero, and the opposite side of the arena shouts and cheers as ours rush to clear their seats, hoping to avoid getting stuck in shoulder-to-shoulder crowds on the walk back to campus.

Trevor hops up, offering me his hand, and I scoff, lifting my legs and stretching them over the now-empty seat in front of me.

His lip curls. “You can’t possibly plan to sit here and wait until Ben’s ready to leave? He’s not even off the ice yet!”

I ignore him, lifting my lemonade to my lips as I wrap my jacket tighter around me. How Ben gets so sweaty in a room filled with ice is beyond me.

The cheap vodka I poured in makes a poor excuse for a lemon drop, but it’s also the only thing that stopped me from tearing off Trevor’s head during the game. He waits until the aisles around us are empty, then huffs, throwing himself into the seat as if he can’t believe he has to stay here longer. It’s as if he’s convinced himself I invited him tonight or that I actually want him to stick around. Neither is true.
Bastian Bishop. That’s his name.
He’s rough, rugged, and utterly unpredictable.
He’s not cautious or contemplative. He’s a volcano. Silent and steady one second, and a nightmare in the next.

But that’s not the worst of it.
This guy? He’s an outsider and in my world outsiders don’t belong.
They’re unwanted, unwelcome and known to disappear without a trace, yet he doesn’t seem to care.

After one night of reckless rebellion, the tattooed tyrant keeps coming back, sneaking into my world without permission, and causing trouble I can’t allow.

I should end this now before my father discovers his existence and does it for me, but he won’t allow it.

He says, like it or not … I am his now, that nothing and no one will stand in his way.

What he refuses to understand is I’m a Girl of Greyson, a coveted queen of sorts in the underground crime world.
He’s a nobody, an insignificant man with nothing to his name, marking him a threat to my own.

We could never be, but he won’t hear it.
And me? I know exactly how this ends.

Or so I thought I did, until betrayal burns so deep that suddenly nothing makes sense.

Nothing but him…

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Four Years Ago

The deepest, darkest shade of red runs in a steady stream, filling in the cracks of the concrete, not stopping when it meets the burned grass, but soaking into the roots and panning out like a flame with no fire.

So why the fuck is there a man in yellow trench pants standing ten feet from me, eyes wide and hands raised in the air? His mouth is moving, but if he’s speaking, I don’t hear shit.

No, that’s not right.

I hear something deep in the back of my mind.

Screams.

Cries of pain.

Cries for help.

Cries for mercy.

My vision blurs, and it’s as if time rewinds, my fucked-up head forcing me to relive what led me right here, right now …

“Please, no. Please, don’t. I’ll be good. I’ll be quiet.”

“You’re worthless.”

Smack.

“Useless.”

Smack.

“Trash.”

Crash.

More cries.

The scream that tears from me is damn near unrecognizable as I wrench my hands free of the zip ties, a few layers of skin tearing as I do. The electrical cable he used to tie me to this chair holds strong around my middle, but the brutal sounds coming from downstairs tell me there’s no time to find something to cut the thickly covered copper digging into my ribs, so I lurch awkwardly to my feet and spin so my front is facing the bed.

Pulling in as much air as the position allows, I run backward with all the speed I can manage, slamming the cheap wood into the wall. A guttural shout rips from my throat as my shoulder crunches against the wall, but I do it again.

“Fuck,” I hiss. “Come on, come on, come on …”

Wood splinters pierce my bare back, digging into the fresh welts there and tearing open half-healed ones. I do it again. And again, my back teeth at risk of cracking from clenching them so hard.

I gasp, my entire body shaking with rage, as the screams from the first floor grow even louder.

Warm liquid trickles down the entire right side of my body now, and my chest heaves, but I don’t stop. I draw on as much adrenaline as I can, and with one last crash, the back bars of the chair split, snapping from the base and left arm enough for me to wiggle my body and crawl out of the restraints.

“You want to cry?!” he screams. “I’ll shut you up!”

“No!” she weeps.

My heart pounds wildly as I run toward the voices, the cuts on the bottom of my feet tearing open more and more with every step, but I don’t care. I can hardly feel the pain anymore.

I can hardly feel anything. A new, darker form of rage bleeds into my bones, numbing me from the inside out.

“Get back here, you little bitch!” he demands, the front door slamming against the hinge.

“Fuck!” I hurry down the stairs.

She ran outside.

We never run outside when he’s like this—or after—but then again, it’s never lasted this long before.

My stomach leaps into my throat as the living room comes into view.

The broken glass littering the floor mocks me, the bloodstains on the shitty shag carpet a constant reminder, as if I fucking need one, of what he’s capable of doing to her, to me.

My mother hugs the now broken frame of the door, cowering against it, and the moment she hears me coming, she attempts to keep me from stepping through, but I shove her away, breaking free when her hand darts out, attempting to latch on to my wrist.

Horror slams into me, and I jerk to a stop on the porch.

My sister’s face is even more swollen now, blood seeping from the side of her head where he pistol-whipped her before tying me up, the bullet meant for her still buried in my flesh. She struggles to keep her eyes open, her body growing limp at our father’s side as he drags her back toward the house by the hair.

I have to get to her.

I have to free her.

I will save her.

He spots me and comes to a halt, eyes flicking over my shoulder.

And then my mother’s body is crashing into me from behind, knocking me unsteady. She’s hysterical, afraid for the man she loves more than her children and stumbles. With a slight nudge of my elbow, she tumbles into the dirt, scrambling back and hiding behind a flowerpot when my father pulls the trigger of the gun gripped in his left hand. The harsh “pap” rattles in the trees, the bullet burying itself into the dirt near his feet.

“Son, stop this right now! You’re bleeding everywhere! Get back inside before someone sees!” she cries, begging, yet again, for us, the victims, to “be good” and take the fucking whipping we “deserve.”

Of course I’m fucking bleeding. I came home to chaos, saw a gun pointed at my sister’s head, and with the look of acceptance in her eyes, I jumped in front of her just before he pulled the trigger.
I’ve tried to forget him.
He refuses to allow it.

Now, here we are, forced to spend the holidays together, pretending everything is as merry as ever.

It isn’t.

I know this.
He knows this.

Everyone else? Not so much thanks to the man determined to be mine.

Despite all that’s happened between us, he swears not everything has changed.

He might be right…
—-

This is a second chance holiday short story with high steam, a guaranteed HEA, and NO cliffhanger!

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

Noel

Have you ever sat back and wondered what life would be like if you made one decision differently? Ever wished a memory away or prayed for a redo?

If you have… I can say with utmost certainty that you, you wishful thinker, are most definitely the asshole who made the mistake, and the time you would like to teleport back to is the moment you slid your average-size eggplant inside your girlfriend’s roommate!

“Someone has a lot on her mind.”

Never in my life have I slapped my laptop shut so fast, my glare slicing over my shoulder and slamming into the eyes of the man who makes me wish I had ice cream for breakfast… so I could puke it up all over his impeccably polished shoes.

“And someone else is, yet again, speaking on things that do not concern them.” Hooking my heel around the back leg of my chair, I spin until I’m facing him. Legs crossed, I drum my fingertips along the thick leather beneath my palm. “Why are you here?”

Arms folded over his stupidly broad chest, he cocks his head like the condescending asshole he is. “What were you writing?”

“My speech for the opening.”

“That’ll go over well with potential buyers.” He doesn’t miss a beat, this one, eyes always sharp and assessing.

“I’m sure their wives will relate beautifully.” My smile is a sugary sham as I push to stand, blindly grabbing my laptop and sliding it into my bag. I wipe the fake away. “I know the whole ‘couple thing’ is a foreign concept to you, but why do you think I suggested a couples conference?” I lift a brow, taking two steps forward and answering before he has a chance. “When a husband assumes his wife is uncomfortable or appears a little less naïve than he assumed her to be, said husband will open his wallet.”

“My wallet is plenty big enough now.”

“And apparently, so is your ego.”

I shoulder past the man, but I’m caught by an arm, halting me at his side.

My gaze darts to his.

“So sassy these days,” he accuses.

“Gee.” I tip my head. “I wonder why that is.”

“The man with the average-size eggplant?”

“And his brother.”

Roman’s brows crash instantly, and I jerk in his grasp, but he doesn’t relent, his long fingers spreading wider for a better grip. A shadow falls over him, and slowly, he pulls in a lungful of air.

“We don’t have to do this, you know?” His dark eyes implore mine. “I’ve been home for weeks now.”

“And I’ve been eagerly awaiting your departure since the day you arrived.”

“Lie to yourself some more, Kitten.”

Kitten.

The nickname he gave me the day he met me. We were only fifteen, and he was too charming for his own good, so instead of feeding into his flirty ways, I snapped back.

He said he liked my claws, and that was that.

He became the boy I pretended annoyed me—until I didn’t—and I was his ‘Kitten.’

But that was twelve years ago, and not a damn thing is as it was then.

I swallow, working to keep my frown in place. “Do not call me that.”

“That wasn’t a denial.” The asshole has the audacity to grin.

“Why are you here, Roman?”

“I work here. My name is on the building out front, right beside yours.”

We stare at one another for a long stretch but knowing that was not what I meant, neither of us having to say it out loud.

Why did he come back? Why now?

Why at all?

I stand taller. “I’m running point on this, and I planned to do so with you on the opposite side of the country.”

“In-person communication is always best.”

“Communication?” A humorless laugh leaves me. That’s rich. “And here I thought you were the radio silent type.”

He jerks closer, eyes narrowing. “Want to take a trip down memory lane?”

I swallow my tongue, my muscles coiling in an instant, but I manage to force my words out strong.

“We’ve gotten this far without the added inconvenience of your presence. I don’t want you here or tagging along. In fact, I would almost beg you to skip the weekend altogether, help avoid any… mishaps bound to walk in your wake. So, what do you say, hmm?” I tip my head, aware I’m acting like a brat and not giving two shits. “Hop on your fancy new jet and fly back to wherever it is you call home?”

“This is my home, Noel. I said I’m here to stay. I meant it.”

“Yeah.” My lips twist mockingly. “We’ll see.”

He regards me for a long moment. “A pessimist now, are we? What happened to the doe-eyed woman who fell in love with a story from a magazine I bought her that inspired all this hard work?” He shifts closer, bringing us face to face, his large fingers still wrapped around my bicep. “You were such a dreamer, a romantic.”
Ever wonder what would happen if you bribed your brother’s ex-best friend to pop your cherry?

Yeah, me either, but I did it anyway. Now the moody man is madder than ever, but I came prepared to strike a deal.

One he can’t refuse…

Crew Taylor is the picture of perfection, if gruff, grumpy, and prone to throw a punch is your type. Clearly, it’s mine or I wouldn’t be begging him to bite the bullet and claim my virginity as his own.

Sure, he’s a bit of a caveman, broody and bossy and oh so naughty, but that’s sort of the point.
He’s experienced, his heated hazel eyes promising sinful skills in seduction, and I want him to teach me all he knows.

Lesson by lesson.
Night after night.

The problem?

He says he won’t allow me in his bed … but I wonder what it would take to get him to play in mine a bit?

Releasing September 23rd

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Davis

“I don’t have much time, Baby Franco, so let’s hear it.”

My lips pinch at the nickname, something he’s called me since I was twelve, the blatant reminder that I, above all freaking else, am the baby of my family—his chosen family, that is until he washed his hands of us, unlike the faded nightclub stamp smeared along his knuckles.

It’s whatever. He showed, didn’t he?

Sure, he threw himself in the chair across from me, without so much as a one-armed hug, and buried his face in his phone before bothering to look at me, but again, he is here, which is more than I can say for the last several years.

Who’s counting, right?

It went from seeing him every single day—as one does when their bedroom is directly across from your own—to every other, to once a month, then twice a year, and as of yesterday, he broke an entirely new record for us. It’s been almost three years to the day since the two of us have been in the same place, at the same time, and even then, it was for no more than a wave through a dusty Mazda window, which, considering his apartment is less than a ten-minute drive from my own, is telling.

And, apparently, it’s not long enough for him if the annoyed sigh pushing past his cherry-ChapStick-covered lips clues me into anything. I’ll wait him out, though, because I need his undivided attention in order to ask what I brought him here to ask, so I sit back, waiting for the moody man to look up.

Several more moments, a couple seat shifts, and a flash of a frown later, he finally does. Dark, hazel eyes rimmed in gold meet mine and the hint of irritation rising in my throat simmers.

My gaze softens, a small smile pulling at my lips at the direct sight of my brother’s best friend.

Best friend turned foster brother turned ex best friend, that is.

As if his thoughts mirror mine, as if I’m nothing but a reminder of the friendship he lost, Crew winces, flicking his attention away.

“When was the last time you woke up this early?” I tease, glancing at his disheveled hair and last night’s hoodie.

A ghost of a grin tugs at the corner of his mouth, but he doesn’t quite let it loose. “Been a while.” A single beat passes, a second sigh leaving him as he leans forward, arms crossed flat on the tabletop.

Crew’s eyes skim over my upper half in a long, slow pursuit, and with each passing second, the deeper the creases along his forehead become. “Your hair’s different.”

“Oh.” Subconsciously, I reach up, running my fingers through the soft caramel-colored strands. “Yeah, I thought it would be fun to go a little darker.”

“And shorter.”

I nod, squashing my hands between my thighs to keep from touching it again. I had forgotten what I’d changed about myself since the last time he saw me. Chopping my long dirty-blonde hair and going brunette had been a random, rash decision, but I love it. It’s short, hanging just above my collarbone, sleek and spunky. My hair never held curls anyway, so now it’s ten times easier to jump up and head out the door, not like I ever spent too much time trying to do much more than that, but still. My life had become a monotonous merry-go-round—a boring circle I wanted out of—with new hair, I at least saw something new in the mirror each day.

I also stopped wearing—

“And no more contacts?” It’s as if he reads my mind.

An anxious laugh escapes, and I uncross one leg, recrossing them the opposite way beneath the café table.

“My dad has to take me off his insurance when he retires this summer, so I finally gave in and had laser eye surgery.”

“You’re afraid of needles. And doctors.”

My mouth opens and closes, his sharp memory a surprise, and I give a small shrug.
