From New York Times Bestselling author L.A. Casey comes a fun, sexy, and very Irish, new series ...

Dante Collins enjoyed a wild life of women and alcohol in abundance, christening him with the name Date for his Casanova ways. He had always thought he was unlucky in love, and settling down with one woman wasn’t meant for him … until a country girl falls into his lap and has him questioning everything.

Ina O'Shea had been held back her whole life by everyone from her abusive father to her territorial ex-boyfriend. For the first time, she was living life by her rules and refused to allow her disability to spoil that. She always wanted more from life, and moving across the hall from Dante Collins might just be the adventure she had always sought.

When their personalities, and bodies, collide, it sets in motion a string of events that unfolds in an untimely manner. Dante questions his future while Ina runs from her past. Trusting your heart to another is a daunting task, one they’ll have to overcome if they want to keep the flame between them burning strong.
Casey

PROLOGUE

Ina

* * *

One week ago …

* * *

Breathe, Ina. Just breathe.

I repeated the consoling thought as I carefully counted the wad of cash notes in my hand one more time. Three thousand, seven hundred and ninety euros. It was all here. Every single euro I had secretly and meticulously saved over the past five years under the watchful, soulless eyes of both my father and soon-to-be ex-boyfriend. It wasn’t much, not by a long shot, but every cent represented my new beginning, my chance at a new life that included nobody but myself.

With trembling hands, I removed fifteen euros for my train fare from Kildavin, Carlow, to Connolly Station in Dublin’s City Centre before I tucked the rest safely into my purse. I knew the price without giving it a second thought. I had already researched the ticket price online multiple times over the past few weeks as I chose the best departure time window. I couldn’t prepay for my fare with a credit or debit card because I didn’t have either. I had nothing to call my own, bar some clothing, but I knew that was part of the ownership Daddy wielded over me.

He only gave me what I needed to survive, which clearly didn’t amount to much in his mind.

Over the years, it had deeply hurt me how he had never doted on me like a father should with his only daughter, his only child. I had cried myself to sleep many nights because he treated me like nothing more than a house slave, but now that I was so close to ridding myself of my father and the constricting life that I had with him, I found that I was glad he gave me the bare minimum in everything from physical possessions to love and emotional support. It solidified in my mind that the plan I had created to leave was the right one. The only person who could look after me was me. I didn’t want to start another year of my life stuck in the same hole I was wallowing in, so I decided that today, my twenty-seventh birthday, was the day I would start over. I was done leading a life where I merely existed for someone else.

I wanted my independence. I wanted to be my own person, and I was making it happen tonight.

The last train to Dublin left at half past seven, and I planned to be on that train no matter what. I had gone about my day as usual. I woke up before the sun rose, cleaned the house from top to bottom, did a few loads of washing, prepared breakfast, and lunch for my father, hung the washing out on the line, and then worked in the office until it was time to prepare dinner and take the washing in to be folded and put away. I crushed two of Daddy’s sleeping tablets and mixed them into his evening drink. He suspected nothing as he downed his whiskey while he wordlessly ate his dinner. He moved from the kitchen to his parlour.

Within ten minutes, he was sleeping in his recliner with a football match on television.

Hearing Daddy snore was my green light to leg it. Knowing that Finn Baxter, my now ex-boyfriend, would be out with his other girlfriend, the one he had been fucking behind my back for almost a year, the very one he thought I knew nothing about, gave me peace of mind that my getaway would be a clean one. I placed a detailed letter I had written that morning on the kitchen counter next to Daddy’s bottle of whiskey.

In it, I stated I was leaving to start my life over and didn’t want him or Finn to come after me. I outlined that my life with him had been controlling and utterly miserable for as long as I could remember. I underlined that he would never see me again, and this was goodbye. There was no room left for doubt. Daddy would know that I would never come back and that he would be alone in his life and business from this day forth.

I grabbed the handle of my suitcase, tucked strands of my raven black hair behind my ears, then left the house I had grown up in without looking back. It wasn’t until much later, when I disembarked the train at Connolly Station in Dublin’s City Centre, that I realised I was smiling. I felt like I was breathing easily for the first time in my life. I was all on my own, but I wasn’t one bit scared. I was excited.

I was free.

CHAPTER ONE

Date

* * *

Present day …

* * *

“Date! Ye no good, big-headed, cock nose, fuckin’ eejit! Get up, lad!”

I blindly jumped up from my bed, and the action caused me to tangle my flailing limbs up in my duvet. With nowhere else to go but down, I promptly fell from my soft haven to the hardwood floor with a loud thud.
Do you know what you’ve got in your hands? A little piece of fucking treasure, that’s what. I’ve taken initiative here and have turned my trusty Man Bible into an actual survival guide, because the loot between these pages will lead to each of you having happy, stress free lives with your women.

Pick this gem up, put your big boy pants on, and start reading. Trust me, you won't regret it. I present to you, The Man Bible ... you're fucking welcome. By Nico Slater

Books in Series:

Slater Brothers Series by L.A. Casey

Books by Author:

L.A. Casey Books

Chapter One

IT’S NOT WHAT SHE SAYS ... IT’S HOW SHE SAYS IT

* * *

We’ve all found ourselves sitting alone after an argument from hell feeling utterly confused because you did exactly what your woman said you could do when you asked her permission for something ... only to find out that she is a little liar, and didn’t mean a word of what she said. First things first, no matter what, the blame lies with the man. That’s you. Trust me when I say you will not convince your woman otherwise and deep down you know this. If she told you that you could do something, but she didn’t really mean it, then she has already decided that you’re guilty for not seeing through her Oscar worthy lie. Nothing you say, or do, will change this fact. Accept that shit, and living with her will become a whole lot fucking easier.

Now. To save yourself from sitting alone for hours wondering what the fuck you did wrong when your woman gave you permission for something, only to go back on her word and become the spawn of Satan, I’m gonna break this shit down for you. This information will rid you of migraines, an empty belly (because she’s not cooking for you when she’s mad, not a chance in Hell) and sleeping on the couch. Like the title of this chapter says, it’s not what she says, it’s how she says it.

It’s all about her tone, her body language, and abso-fucking-lutely nothing to do with the words that leave her mouth.

Let’s say she says that you can go out to the bar with your buddies, okay? Does she keep non-blinking eye contact with you when she speaks? Does she smile like she’s just won the lottery? Does she tilt her head to the side at any point in the conversation? Does she encourage you to stay out later that you originally suggested? Does she seem obscenely happy when you mention that other females will be in breathing distance of you? Does she clap her hands together every time she says a word for no apparent reason? Does she tell you to ‘go out, have fun’? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you need to sit your ass down, and re-evaluate your life and future choices because she doesn’t mean a single fucking word of what she is saying to you. Not. One. Word.

—She is daring you, not giving permission—

If, at any point, you’re reading this information and thinking ‘bullshit, my girl is chill and wouldn’t do this’ then let me tell you something, my friend. You’re fucking deluded. Every woman on planet Earth does this, and if you meet a woman that says she doesn’t, then she is either flat out lying to you, or she hasn’t fallen in love with her future husband, or wife, yet, thus isn’t aware of the level of crazy that she is capable of reaching. That level isn’t measurable, either. There is no limit to a woman’s crazy.

Remember that, and you just might survive spending your life with one.

Chapter Two

TRICK QUESTIONS ... THESE ARE LIFE OR DEATH SITUATIONS

* * *

Has your woman ever asked you what you thought was an innocent question, only for you to rapidly find out that it had fifty underlining meanings that you were absolutely not aware of? Yeah, those are trick questions, my friend. In the military, they are called the mine fields: undetectable, and life ending upon detonation. It’s fucking scary, I’m not going to water it down for you. You will fear for your life. Answering a trick question is life threatening, but answering a trick question wrong? Christ, your woman will give Lucifer a run for his money and happily take a fucking seat on Hell’s throne. There is only one way around this.

—Under no circumstances do you answer the fucking question—

I don’t care if it starts a whole other argument about you not listening to her, or refusing to engage in conversation, do not answer a trick question. It will always end badly for you. Always. Trick questions only have one purpose, to hurt men. That’s it. Women think it’s to get information out of you by being deceitful, but their genetics know how much pain trick questions cause our gender, so they do that shit for fun. I don’t even think they are fully aware of it, but they do it, and they do that shit well.

When you get the curve ball that is a trick question, you need to be quick and alert. Train your mind for this: practice fire round questioning when you have down time to prepare yourself. It will save you a headache in the future. Trust me. Once you practice, you can divert a possible life ending question with e.g. the weather, world events, the Kardashians, Cathy down the street who is definitely fucking her brother-in-law. You’re to use anything and everything in your arsenal to avoid answering the question.
And sleeping in on the weekends was practically unheard of. I was a trier, if anything, so ever since I became a father fifteen years ago, I attempted, every single weekend, to catch a few extra minutes whenever I could. My know-no-boundaries offspring made it their personal mission to make sure I didn’t.

“Daddy?”

I refused to lift my eyelids as I grumbled, “Go away.”

“Come on, Daddy. Get up.”

I snored. Loudly.

“Daaaaaaddy?”

I groaned but kept my eyes shut, hoping the kid harassing me would give up and leave.

“I know you’re fakin’ it.”

“Go bother your mom,” I half pleaded, snuggling into my pillow. “Please.”

I felt tiny, soft hands touch my bare back, and that was when the let’s-pretend-dad-is-a-drum game started.

“I don’t wanna play with a girl. I wanna play with you. You’re stronger than Mammy.”

I chuckled gruffly before I rolled onto my back, halting the drum game my son had started. I reached up and rubbed my eyes before I opened them and stared at the ceiling of my bedroom. A ceiling that had multiple stickers of stars and moons stuck to it from when Georgie was a baby. I turned my head to the left and came face to face with my actual baby. I reached over, gripped under Axel’s armpits, and heaved him onto the bed, making him squeal with laughter. He was the youngest of our five, our last child. My baby. He was spoiled rotten because of this.

“Your mom is plenty strong. Why don’t you want to play with her?”

“I’m not talkin’ to ‘er anymore.”

He said this as he sat directly on my chest, making me grunt.

“Why not?”

Axel scowled. “She keeps callin’ me a baby.”

My lips twitched. “You don’t think you’re a baby?”

“I just turned seven,” Axel said, puffing his chest out with pride. “I’m not a baby, Daddy.”

I grinned at him. “Your mom doesn’t mean anything when she calls you baby, son. It’s just a habit from when your brothers and sister were little. She even calls me baby now and then ... Do you think I look like a baby?”

Axel considered this, then giggled. “You’re definitely not a baby.”

He spoke as he poked at my abdominal muscles. Muscles that at thirty-eight were still tight, toned, and very defined. My love for working out never faded as I got older and neither did my wife’s adoration for my body, so I made sure to keep it in peak physical condition because it made her moan on sight.

I loved hearing that woman moan.

I yawned. “Is Mom still in her pjs?”

“Yup.” Axel nodded. “She said she’s gettin’ a shower when ye’ wake up.”

“I better go downstairs and relieve her then. What do you say?”

Axel cocked an eyebrow. “Are ye’ goin’ to kiss ‘er again?”

“Do you not like when I kiss her?”

He shook his head. “She’s my mammy.”

“And she’s my wife,” I countered, grinning.

“I was in ‘er belly,” Axel deadpanned. “Beat that.”

Easy.

“I put you in her belly.”

He stared down at me. “How?”

I hesitated, wondering if he was too young for the talk that I had given to all my other kids at various ages, but Axel’s attention switched to flicking my nipples and laughing when I flinched. He crawled off me when I playfully swatted his hands away, then jumped off the bed and ran out of the room shouting, “I woke ‘im up, Ma!”

I shot into an upright position. “You said you wanted to play!”

“I lied,” Axel shouted as he reached the stairs. “Mammy said I’d get the biggest cookie ever after dinner tonight if I woke ye’ up. Sorry ... not really, though! Cooookkkiieeee.”

I kicked the blankets off my body, then turned and hung my legs over the bed. I snorted as I heard my wife praise our youngest at the bottom of the stairs for waking me up. I wasn’t surprised that she enlisted our kids’ help; she always had them scheming when she didn’t want to do something. She said it was one of the perks of having children.

“Beau!” Georgie suddenly bellowed. “Give it back or I swear to God I’ll—”

“Hey!” I shouted, getting to my feet and walking out to the hallway to see what was going on.

Georgie, my eldest, had Beau, my second eldest, in a chokehold with her arm hooked perfectly around his neck. She had her right leg wrapped around his left to angle his body so she could get a firm grip in a better stance. He couldn’t attempt to break her hold on him without hurting himself in the process, and she knew it. I had taught her how to protect herself and how to hold her own, but she wasn’t supposed to practice her self-defence moves on her brothers.

I stared at my firstborn son, and a flashback of his birth suddenly entered my mind.

I spun around, my hair a mass of thick, dark waves flying after me. I looked from my left to my right, wondering where the echoed whisper was coming from. The voice that spoke was uncomfortably familiar to me, but I couldn’t recall who it belonged to. All I knew was that fear caused my muscles to tighten, and my throat to run dry. My body was tense, and the hair on the nape of my neck stood at attention. Something was very wrong. I looked around once more, and it was only at that moment I realised that I couldn’t remember walking into my office. I looked down at my body and blinked in surprise. I definitely couldn’t remember putting on the beautiful white dress I was wearing. In fact, I couldn’t remember when I purchased the dress in the first place.

“Damien?” I called out, confusion gripping me. “Where are ye’?”

“He’s a little tied up at the moment, angel.”

I shrieked when the voice spoke directly behind me, but when I turned to face the person, I was met with thin air. My body began to tremble, and silent sobs climbed their way up my throat. I jumped when I heard a clicking noise to my right. My lips parted with shock as I watched my easel set itself up without a person in sight to perform the action. I wanted to turn, to flee the room and never look back, but I couldn’t. I was frozen to the spot as my eyes were locked on the impossible scene before me.

I sucked in a sharp breath when I blinked, and suddenly, I was standing in front of my easel with a pencil in my hand. A large blank canvas was before me, and as if I was controlled by someone else, my arm rose, and my hand began to draw on the canvas. I whimpered with fright as I fought for control of my body, but I was completely at the mercy of whatever possessed me. I could do nothing but watch in horror as my hand drew an image at an unnatural speed. It wasn’t just an image, though … It was a sketched film.

I had drawn perfect likenesses of the Slater brothers, and when they began to move, smile, and turn to look at me, my heart just about beat out of my chest. I watched as their smiles turned to frowns, then as their frowns turned to pained expressions as cuts and tears appeared on their bodies. Thick, red liquid began to spill from the brothers, but then it wasn’t just on the brothers anymore; it began to seep through the canvas. I watched as it slowly dripped down the sketch and splashed onto the floor, causing a puddle to form around my bare feet. The liquid splashed onto my white dress, decorating it in red.

The smell was heavy and metallic, and I knew it had to be blood.

“I think this is your best creation yet, angel.”

I fell onto my behind when control of my body suddenly returned to me. It didn’t hurt like I expected it to. In fact, I felt nothing at all. My breathing was laboured as a shadow fell over me, and apprehension flooded me. I looked up, and when my eyes landed on him, my lips parted, and my heart stopped.

“Morgan?”

Morgan Allen, who was really Carter Miles, smiled down at me, and his vibrant violet eyes seemed to twinkle in delirious amusement.

“Angel,” he said, tilting his head to the side. “Oh, how I’ve missed you.”

I furrowed my brows as I clumsily got to my feet and stumbled a few steps away from Morgan, putting some much-needed space between us.

“You can’t be ‘ere,” I warned. “Ye’ promised that ye’d go away and stay away.”

“That was when you rejected the Slater brothers,” he said with a wicked grin. “But you’ve made up with them … You’ve opened your heart to them once again, and I can’t have that, angel. Not when they’ve killed people close to me. Murderers don’t get a happily ever after, not in this story.”

My knees knocked together and threatened to give way at any moment.

“Mor-Morgan,” I stammered. “Ye’ said ye’d never hurt anyone … D’ye remember that?”

“And you said you loved Damien and that you wanted to marry him and have his babies, but that’s not true,” he replied with a menacing snicker. “I guess we’re both liars.”

“I … I do want to marry Damien and have his children. I do.”

“No, you don’t,” Morgan replied smugly. “I’m in your head, angel, remember? That means I know everything that goes on inside it. You want Damien, but you don’t want his last name or his kids.”

“No,” I said, wrapping my arms around my waist. “No, that’s not true.”
Alannah Ryan had always suffered in silence, until that silence became so deafening she spilled secrets that she never intended to. At one point in her life, she yearned for adventure, a nail biting journey … something other than the mundane life she led. Her pleas were answered in the form of a tall, handsome heart breaker with a mop of white hair.
Alannah’s dreams for an exciting twist in her life were shattered because of a teenage mistake. One that has haunted her for over five years, and left her in pieces.
Damien Slater was the reason for every bad thing in the lives of those he loved most. A decision he made when he was just fifteen destroyed his brothers’ lives, and there was nothing he could do to change the things they had endured. Ruining them hurt, but ruining the only woman who wanted him for more than one night hurt a hell of a lot more.
Running away helped Damien heal, and returning to Ireland only caused Alannah more pain. Pain he intended to eradicate and replace with the passion he knew they both shared. Breaking down her walls was not the only challenge Damien faced. Another had plans of his own, and his intentions weren’t for physical vengeance, but something far worse.
Damien values Alannah above all else, and what Damien values, Damien fights for.

I thought about it as I twirled the ends of my black hair around my fingers and stared up at the ceiling. The bed I was lying on suddenly dipped, pulling me from my thoughts and causing me to flinch at the disruption of my peace and quiet. I glanced at my best friend, who had one hand on her bed to balance herself while she slid her high heels on with the other.

Bronagh Murphy was my opposite in every way. When she wasn’t pretending that she was invisible, she was loud, sassy, and had a solid backbone. She was funny too, and though she didn’t think so, she had a banging body.

My pairing with Bronagh was an odd one because we hadn’t always been friends. In fact, it was only over the past few weeks after Bronagh defended me from an attack by the school bully that we decided to give the friendship thing a real go. After that, we quickly found we were, in fact, BFFs and just had to hang out all the time.

We were a work in progress for Bronagh, though, because I wasn’t exactly a social butterfly. I could make friends easily enough when I wanted to, but Bronagh couldn’t. She had trust issues, so even landing a spot as her friend was a miracle. I had been in her class for the whole of secondary school and often saw her around primary school, but I never really knew her. No one did ... until Nico and Damien Slater moved to our town, got lumped into our tutor class, and quite literally, cornered her until she had no choice but to come out swinging.

Damien Slater. My mind drifted. Where do I start with Damien Slater?

I licked my lips.

Damien was ... my God, he was perfect. He was drop-dead gorgeous, super tall, lean with muscle, had an accent, and he made me laugh. He had an identical twin, but to me, he was nothing like his brother Nico. I knew from the moment I saw him on his first day in school a few months ago that I would secretly obsess over him. I just didn’t know I’d be obsessing twenty-four-bloody-seven over him.

I had never had a real crush on a lad before Damien entered my life. I thought some lads around school and town were good looking, and hot celebrities obviously drew my attention like any other red-blooded teenage girl, but I had no one who I really fancied myself being with. That all changed when I first saw Damien. Even though he was very closed off, I could tell that his personality was larger than life, and as cheesy as it sounded, he looked like he was carved by angels. He was one of those perfect people you instantly knew would never even glance in your direction.

Ten seconds after I clapped eyes on him, I was imagining our wedding. My stomach somersaulted when I pictured his white blond hair standing out against his black tuxedo as we said, “I do”. How his grey eyes would stare into mine as he declared his undying love for me to the world. How his plump rosy lips would feel like velvet as they claimed mine in a heated kiss. How his smile would erase my every worry and fear and replace it with hope. How his large hand would hold mine when we strolled down the street.

It took a further ten seconds for me to realise I never stood a fecking chance. Nearly every girl in our class, and probably the whole bloody school, most likely had the same thoughts as I did because they jumped to be the first one to grab and hold his attention.

It was mortifying to admit it to myself, but Damien consumed a huge part of my life, and we were barely even friends. If that didn’t label me as pathetic, then I didn’t know what would. Thankfully, no one knew about my embarrassing infatuation ... except for Bronagh, who was too attentive for her own good.

“Alannah.” She bumped my leg with hers. “What’re you sighin’ for?”

I turned my attention to her. “Huh?”

“You keep sighin’.”

I do?

“Sorry, I’m just thinkin’.”

Bronagh stared at me with a perfectly shaped brow raised in question.

“About Damien?”

I felt my cheeks burn with heat. Bronagh was my best friend, but that title was new, so she didn’t really know the depth of my feelings for Damien. No one did, and if I had my way, no one ever would.

“Yeah,” I mumbled. “About Damien.”

Bronagh simpered. “You’re so cute when you blush.”

‘Cause that’s what every eighteen-year-old girl wants to be viewed as. Cute.

I playfully kicked at her. “Leave me alone.”

“Sorry,” she said, amusement gleaming in her bright green eyes. “I forget how ... much of an introvert you are.”
A surprise honeymoon deep in a beautiful forest for a secluded getaway was supposed to be fun, romantic and peaceful – until the storm of the century hits and both Branna and Ryder face a new enemy that has means to harm their family.
Mother nature.
Casey Books

Having a near-death experience at the hands of a psychopathic lunatic was not something I would ever forget but I was doing a damn good job trying. My family, on the other hand, were not. It was constantly on their minds and wasn’t something they could just sweep under the carpet. I understood that and, while I loved their attentiveness and concern for my mental health, I was a hair away from admitting myself into an asylum to get away from the overbearing freaks.

I hated thinking that because it made me sound ungrateful. I wasn’t ungrateful. I really got it. I got where they were coming from. When I was kidnapped five months ago and put through the wringer by Big Phil—an American arsehole who was now six feet under—my family could only be expected to hover. If they didn’t constantly surround me, I could have possibly dealt with my situation differently. Even though I refused to give the scumbag any power over me, even in death, I appreciated my family being there as a backbone for me in case I did break.

I didn’t, though.

Luckily, I kept my shit together and didn’t let Big Phil in. Sometimes, I had the occasional night terror where I would dream of what happened and wake up in a cold sweat, but it never made me fear falling asleep. The Health Board that oversaw the maternity hospital I worked at appointed me to see a therapist that had to sign off on whether I was mentally stable enough to continue working. I was originally signed on for six sessions with her, but that rolled into twenty before she was convinced I was mentally okay. She signed off on me—thank God—and she admitted to being surprised that I wasn’t more of a wreck after what I had been through. The only reason I could think as to why I wasn’t totally unstable was because my mind and heart had been put through way worse when I spent a year and a half being at my lowest point over Ryder Slater.

He was a unique man with a very unique past. I would usually only read about the things he and his four brothers had been through in books or see on films. Getting involved with him wasn’t scary; I fell in love with him so fast that it made my head spin, but it clouded my senses and judgment. Because of that, I allowed myself to become close to a person who had enemies and instantly became a prime target for those enemies.

My little sister, Bronagh, found her own way to Ryder’s younger brother, Dominic. My best friend, Aideen Collins, got tied up with Ryder’s other brother, Kane. Aideen’s best friend, Keela Daley, got tangled up with Ryder’s other brother, Alec. And Bronagh’s best friend, Alannah Ryan, was briefly involved with the youngest of the Slater brothers—Damien. That association put them all at risk.

Literally all of them.

When my sister was eighteen, she was kidnapped by a disgusting excuse for a human being named Marco Miles who wanted to use her as a bargaining chip to keep the brothers under his thumb—Damien and Alannah were also taken as insurance. Damien remembered everything that happened, but Alannah had no clue other than she “fainted,” and we decided to keep it that way. She was pure, and we weren’t sure if she could handle the brothers’ past, and what she was involved in, without breaking down. Keela was taken by the same arsehole a few years later in a bid to get revenge on the brothers for destroying his empire. Nearly two years ago, Aideen was attacked and almost burned alive while she was pregnant with her son, Jax, because another scumbag named Big Phil wanted revenge on Kane for killing his paedophile son many years ago. That same son of a bitch abducted me a few months ago to draw Kane out so he could finally get the revenge he had always wanted.

All attempts backfired.

You would think after it happening so much that we would kind of get used to the idea of someone in our circle being kidnapped and tortured, but nope, it was hard to digest each time we found ourselves in a situation like that. The only thing we could be thankful for was that everyone from the brothers’ past who had ill will against them were dead, so we didn’t have to worry about anything happening to any of us ever again.

Which, let me tell you, was immensely relieving.

Because of what we had been through, I understood and validated my family’s behaviour. That being said, it was a struggle all the same to deal with because my little sister was possibly the most overbearing out of everyone. She was slowly driving me crazy. Ryder, my newly wedded husband, was bad, but he didn’t have a patch on Bronagh. She had become my shadow since my attack, but she recently stepped up her game and stuck to me like glue after my surprise wedding and pregnancy announcement three weeks ago.
After a car accident killed her parents when she was a child, Bronagh Murphy chose to box herself off from people in an effort to keep herself from future hurt. If she doesn't befriend people, talk to them or acknowledge them in any way they leave her alone just like she wants.
When Dominic Slater enters her life, ignoring him is all she has to do to get his attention. Dominic is used to attention, and when he and his brothers move to Dublin, Ireland for family business, he gets nothing but attention. Attention from everyone except the beautiful brunette with a sharp tongue.
Dominic wants Bronagh and the only way he can get to her, is by dragging her from the boxed off corner she has herself trapped in the only way he knows how... by force.
Dominic wants her, and what Dominic wants, Dominic gets.
Casey

Books by Author:

L.A. Casey Books

Reader's Note

Dominic is set in Ireland; most of the characters are Irish, and the Irish have a dialect that is completely different from any other dialect in the world. We tend to break words down when speaking and jumble them up; we're weird like that.

I want to make it clear that when you see an Irish character in Dominic say the word 'me' where 'my' should be, that is supposed to be written that way. Everything is 'me' here in Ireland and rarely 'my'. Here in Dublin, where the book is set, we also leave the out the letter G on most words when we speak, again, this is just another part of our dialect.

Spelling is also different here as well, for example, we spell the words 'colour' and 'favourite' with a U instead of without one. A good few foreign readers who read an ARC of Dominic thought these were typos and that's just not the case. If you happen to come across a word that you think might be spelt wrong, look it up, and you will see it is spelt different ways. The USA and Canada are the main countries with different spellings, so Americans and Canadians keep this note in mind while reading Dominic.

I just wanted to put this note in for readers who aren't familiar with Irish dialect, so you don't read a sentence and think, "WTF?"

Dominic by L.A. Casey:

I was late for school today, but it wasn't my fault; it was Branna's fault.

Branna was my older sister and became my legal guardian nine years ago when our parents died in a car accident. She was twenty-eight years old while I was pushing eighteen. She might be my guardian, but the girl was all sister when it came to pissing me off. She hogged the bathroom for twenty-five minutes this morning.

Twenty-five fucking minutes!

She was the sole reason I was fifteen minutes late for school and why I looked like shite. I was currently entering the school when the urge to 'fix' myself got the better of me. I paused mid-stride and then turned in the direction of the girl's bathroom. I wasn't one for constantly thinking about my appearance but I did want to be as put together as I could before I went to class.

When I got to the girl's bathroom, I did my business in the toilet and then went to the sink to wash my hands. When I was finished I looked up at the small mirror over the sink and frowned at my appearance. My bright green eyes looked tired, the bags under them proved me correct. I was a bit of a mess today. I didn't have time to do much more than French plait my hip length, chocolate brown hair to keep it under control, then put a few strokes of mascara on each set of long lashes, and brush my damn teeth. My chubby cheeks were red from wind burn, and my usually pale pink lips were a little chapped and puffy. I was pretty sure that if death was a person then that person would resemble me.

I stood up straight and moved to the full-length mirror in the bathroom to stare at myself. I sighed; I was so white I could give Casper a run for his money. I was Irish, and my skin repelled any sort of tanning. Natural tanning anyway. I was probably the only girl in school who didn't put on fake tan and wore makeup that actually matched my skin tone instead of trying to make myself appear darker than I was. Why try to be something I wasn't? I was pasty white with a splash of light freckles across my upper nose and under my eyes. Branna said they made me look adorable and that I should embrace it; so embracing my pasty whiteness and freckles was what I was doing.

I fixed my school skirt, pulled up my stockings, and adjusted my school jumper. I ran my hand over my uniform to smooth it out. I tilted my head to the left as I studied myself. I liked how I looked. I had big hips and a small waist; I didn't have a big bust, but I had something else that was huge. I turned to the side and rolled my eyes; if I could change one thing about my body it would be my arse. It was big, and more than a few times I have gotten crude comments about it. It made me mad because it messed with my need to be ignored.

I liked being practically invisible.

I grunted as I left the bathroom and proceeded down the corridor to registration class. It was a stupid class we had every morning; our tutor - the person we went to if we got in trouble or needed the bathroom pass - took attendance and then let us do whatever we wanted for forty minutes until the class was over.

Usually everyone chatted about random stuff, but I didn't have any friends so I just kept to myself. That sounded pathetic, but I really didn't have any friends. It wasn't for lack of trying on my classmates part; it was all down to me really. Ever since my parents died I had been closed off and guarded. I didn't like the idea of getting attached to someone new knowing that they could be taken away from me. That's why I chose not to make friends with anyone in school or anyone at all, it was too risky. Branna said it was stupid and that I couldn't be closed off from people forever, because it wasn't healthy. I got that it was weird - I was weird - for just wanting to be on my own all the time but I was content this way so I didn't let her words get to me.

When I reached my classroom, I opened the door and looked directly at my tutor. "Sorry that I'm late, miss," I said, hoping that I looked like I cared about my tardiness.

I heard my sister's voice, and I wanted to answer her, but I was too tired to open my mouth.

"Bee? Hello? You're twenty-one today, get your lazy arse up!"

I grunted in response and remained still.

"Okay, I wanted to do this the easy way, but since you won't get up you have left me no choice..."

I heard her leave the room, so I smiled to myself as I snuggled deeper into my pillow and tangled myself up in my duvet cover. I was so comfortable and content, but that content, of course, ended a few minutes later when my sister came back into my bedroom armed with a weapon.

A deadly weapon.

"Rise and shine!" Branna shouted.

For a spilt-second things were quiet and normal, and then all of a sudden everything was freezing and wet. I screamed and coughed when I breathed down water instead of oxygen. I panicked and kicked off my covers then scrambled up until I was standing up in the middle of my bed. I screamed then when the pain of the ice-cold water that covered me touched every last one of my nerve endings.

"Branna!" I screamed in anger.

"I told you to get up, but you wouldn't listen."

I screamed again and wiped the water out of my eyes. I opened my eyes in time to see the back of Branna as she legged it out of my bedroom at top speed.

"I'm goin' to fuckin' kill you!"

With a roar, I jumped off my bed and almost broke my neck on the wet floor that I won't be cleaning up. Once I steadied myself, I carefully walked out of my room until I was safe on the dry landing, where I wiped my feet into the carpet. I then took off like a bat out of Hell down the stairs in search for my so-called sister. I checked the sitting room first, but it was empty. I went back out into the hallway and glared at the closed kitchen door. I advanced and swung on the door open when I was close enough to do so.

"Happy birthday!"

I ignored the cheers from the men that filled my kitchen, and searched around their bodies for my victim.

"Damn bubble bee, ever heard of pyjamas pants?" Kane's husky voice asked.

Kane Slater was the brother of my boyfriend, Dominic Slater. Dominic had three older brothers, Ryder, Alec, and Kane. He also had a younger brother by three minutes. Yep, an identical twin by the name of Damien Slater.

The Slater brothers were five hot-headed, mouthwatering studs, and little ole me got to call one of them her fella.

I looked to Kane when he spoke, and I raised my eyebrows when I noticed his eyes were cast downwards on my body. I frowned and looked to Alec and Ryder, whose eyes were locked on the lower half of my body as well.

When my eyes landed on my boyfriend, Dominic, I rolled said eyes because the muppet was chewing on his lower lip and looked at my body like he wanted to eat me up.

I looked down at myself and of course I was in my knickers. My wet knickers. No pyjama trousers to be seen anywhere in sight.

Was I embarrassed?

No.

Was I angry?

Hell fucking yes.

"Branna," I growled.

Each of the brothers smiled at me then looked over their shoulders to where a crouching Branna was hiding... or trying to hide.

"You traitorous bastards!" She shouted then screamed bloody murder when I made a run for her.

She scrambled forward and maneuvered around Kane, who was now rubbing his chest and lightly coughing. The poor lad hasn't been feeling well lately. I would have stopped and checked if he were okay, but I was on a mission. I ignored him, and the shouts from the other brothers for me to 'leave Branna alone' and focused on my sister who escaped out of the kitchen door and into the back garden.

"Leave me alone. I was only doin' what Dominic told me to do!" Branna shouted as she heaved herself up onto the large trampoline Dominic won in a Facebook competition last year.

I didn't know why he entered the competition. I honestly thought the trampoline would go to waste, but you would be surprised how often the brother’s jump around on it like a bunch of children.

"I didn't tell you to pour water over her, you lying little-"

"Finish that sentence Dominic, I dare you." Ryder's growling voice cut Dominic off.

I pulled my wet bobbin from my hair, and then tied my hair backup into a messy bun. I laughed at Dominic who looked like he wanted to stand up to Ryder, but knew better than to do so. Dominic could probably lay Ryder out, but then again I've never seen Ryder fight so for all I know he could destroy Dominic.

"I think what he was goin' to call her was a lyin' little STD carryin' slut... which would be highly accurate."

Was that too harsh?

Dominic gasped. "I was only goin' to call her a bitch, not all of what you just said!"

Ryder punched Dominic in the shoulder and it made him hiss in pain. I found it funny. I turned to the trampoline where my sister was jumping around like a child on a sugar rush.

"Stay away from me, Bronagh." She said and from what I could see the bitch was smiling.

She thought she was funny?

We would see about that.

"You think this is funny? You think pourin' water over me is funny?" I snapped as I climbed up onto the trampoline.

"What I'm laughin' at is you chasin' me around in a tank top, and a pair of knickers... wet granny knickers at that, they look awful."

I pulled back as if she slapped me. "You take that back! They are comfortable... I can't sleep in a thong or other shite like that!"

Branna devilishly smiled. "What does Dominic think of your granny knickers?"

I narrowed my eyes and shouted, "Dominic, do you care that I wear granny knickers to bed?"

"What? Um, no. I mean, I'd prefer if you wore nothing or at the very least a thong, but they all slide off the same so I'm not bothered."
Keela Daley is the black sheep of her family. She has always come second to her younger cousin Micah. Even in the eyes of her mother, Micah shone bright, and Keela faded to black. Now, in adulthood, Micah is a bride-to-be and the spotlight is solely on her. Keela is a low priority...or so she thinks.
Alec Slater is a bachelor, never one to bed the same woman, or man, twice. He is a free agent who does what he pleases and answers to no one; that is until a fiery Irish redhead with a temper to match her hair colour knocks him on his arse. Literally.
She hates to admit it, but Keela needs a favour from the cocky Slater brother, a huge favour. She needs him to not only escort her to Micah's wedding, but to also pose as her boyfriend. Alec agrees to help Keela, but has certain conditions for her to abide by. He wants her body and plans to have it before anyone can say I do.
What he doesn't plan on is losing his heart as well as the possibility of losing his family when someone from his past threatens his future.
I know you're in there, your car is outside in the tenant car park!"

I groaned at the sound of the loud voice, and flicked my eyes open then quickly re-closed them. It took a few moments for me to be able to keep them open, and when I could, I couldn't see very well. I squinted through the darkness waiting for my eyes to adjust to the minimal lighting. When I could finally see, I quickly narrowed my eyes at the fat snoring male beside me. I shoved him hoping to knock him off the bed, but instead of falling off like I'd hoped he only farted and rolled over in my direction then placed a big sloppy kiss on my mouth.

"Storm!" I shouted and wiped at my mouth and tried not to heave, but the smell of Storm's breath made that very hard.

Storm lazily got to his feet, stretched and made some weird noises then proceeded to belly flop on top of me until I gasped for air. Storm, my two year old German Shepherd, needed to be put on a diet or one of these days the fat baby was going to smother me in my sleep.

"Off!" I gasped and shoved at his large body with both of my hands.

Storm did as ordered and got off me. But he didn't get off the bed, instead he just rolled back over to his side - yes, my dog had a side of the bed - which was just typical. The only time he willingly moved was if it was breakfast time, lunch time, dinner time or pretty much any time he knew there would be food in it for him.

"You pathetic excuse for a guard dog," I muttered as the banging on my apartment door started up again.

Storm replied with another fart that had me opening the windows before I left my bedroom to proceed down the hallway to open my door. I stubbed my toe on one of Storm's doggy toys as I walked and cursed the person on the other side of the door for making me get out of bed - it was the middle of the night for God's sake!

"I'm comin', keep your knickers on!" I shouted when I reached my door and began unlocking all the locks. There were five of them in total because in the area where I lived, one lock was not enough. I switched on my hall light and jumped when the bulb blew, coating the hall in darkness once again. I sighed as I turned to my front door, even though I was pretty sure I knew who was on the other side, I still looked through the peephole just to be safe.

When I confirmed the noisy menace at my door was in fact my neighbour, I unlocked the final lock and pulled it open then harshly glared at the man who was stood before me. Mr. Pervert - his real name was Mr. Doyle - was a middle-aged man who was the CEO at Perverts 'R Us. The man was a major creep, and I hated that I answered the door to him dressed in nothing but my nightdress because it gave him free rein to ogle me with his ever-roaming eyes.

"Can I help you, Mr. Per-Doyle?" I asked, biting my tongue so I didn't laugh at almost calling him Mr. Pervert out loud.

He snapped his eyes up from gawking at my legs to my face and cleared his throat as he lifted his hand - a hand that contained one single envelope. I simply stared at the envelope for a moment then flicked my eyes up to Mr. Pervert and found his eyes weren't on my face anymore. I knocked on the outside of my door with my free hand which made him jump with fright and me inwardly snort. When his eyes were once again on mine, I nodded to the envelope in his hand and then raised my brows in a silent question.

He cleared his throat again before he said, "I've been away the last few weeks and found this in my mailbox when I got home a few moments ago. It is addressed to you, but has my apartment number on it instead of yours."

I wanted to punch him. I used the light from the hallway outside of my apartment to look back inside and lock my eyes on the clock hanging on the wall behind me, it was twenty past three in the morning.

Couldn't he have just waited till morning before he delivered it to me?

The bloody eejit!

I sighed as I turned back to Mr. Pervert, who was back to looking at my body. I reached out and gripped the envelope and gave it a little tug until Mr. Pervert released it.

"Thanks, I appreciate you goin' out of your way to make sure I get me post." I faked a smile and then pulled the hand that now held the envelope away until it was tucked safely behind my door - along with the rest of my body - so Mr. Pervert couldn't see me anymore.

He blinked a few times and looked at my face, because it was now all that he could see.

"It was no problem at all, sweetheart."

Sweetheart? No!

I smiled and nodded my head as I inched my door closed. "Good night."

"Good-" I closed the door before he could finish his sentence.

I shook off my shivers then I relocked all of the locks on and closed the bolt at the top of the door. I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard Mr. Pervert's footsteps trot back across the hall and into his own apartment where he closed the door behind him. I looked at the envelope in my hand and decided to open it because I was curious as to what was inside it. I couldn't see very well because the hallway was still dark but I knew it wasn't a bill, it didn't feel like the envelope bills came in, it was thicker. From what I had seen it looked nicer than a bill envelope. Fancier.
Keela Daley is stressed out with nightmares and memories from her past, they are haunting her. She has no time to dwell on them as she is moving out of her dog box sized apartment and into her first house with her fiancé. Moving house is a dreaded task, and Keela would love nothing more than for things to go quietly and smoothly, but when you’re engaged to a Slater brother, nothing goes quietly or smoothly. Nothing.
Alec Slater loves his woman. He also loves playing games and surprising her. Picking moving day to do both, turns out to be a failure of epic proportions. Alec wants to make it up to Keela for his mistakes, but as the day goes on, and things go from bad to worse, he doesn’t know if living with him is something she wants anymore.
What started out as a simple day of packing and moving house turns into the day from Hell. Unwanted house guests. Business propositions. Alcohol. Pregnancy tests. Panic attacks. Fighting. Arguing. Sex, and everything else that is crazy and represents the name Slater. Keela has a choice to make, and not one she will make lightly.
Keela adores Alec, and what Keela adores, Keela cherishes.

I opened my eyes and sat upright from my laid down position. I wasn't in my bedroom, or even in my apartment. I was somewhere I had been before, but I couldn't identify where. It was a collection of hallways with a number of closed doors.

Fear gripped me, and I began to breathe hard as I stood up.

“Keela?”

The voice was in my ear urging me for help, begging me with each faint breath. It caused my heart to speed up. I spun around in a circle to see who needed me, but found no source of the voice.

“Where are you?” I shouted.

I heard a male cry out, and it frightened me. I knew that cry, but I couldn't think of who it belonged to. My mind was a cloud of confusion.

I started to run through the darkened hallways. I turned left then right then left again as I zoomed down the hallways in search of the person calling out for me. Each hallway wall was identical to the next, and I wasn't sure if I took a wrong turn and was somehow back to where I was when I opened my eyes. Everything was horrifyingly similar to me. I knew I walked these hallways before, but I couldn't remember when or why.

I screeched when the cream coloured hallway walls surrounding me began to change colour. I tilted my head to the side and watched as blood trails appeared on the walls in the form of human handprints. It looked like someone had placed their bloody hand on the wall and leisurely walked down the hallway smearing the deep red liquid along the way.

I screamed with fright and began to run again.

“Keela?” the voice from before shouted out.

It came from every direction like there was surround sound in the hallway.

“Who are you?” I screamed in dismay. “Where are you?”

Suddenly everything went deathly silent.

The only sound I could pick up on was that of my own hasty breathing.

I stopped moving and listened.

After a few moments of absolute silence, I heard a lock click. The sound sent vibrations through the floor under my feet, and for a moment I thought I would fall over with the force of it. The vibrations stopped as quickly as they started, and I managed to regain my balance. The creak and whine of a door being opened filled my ears seconds later and I whirled around to see who or what was behind it. I squinted my eyes when a door down the end of the hallway opened wide, but all I could see inside was darkness.

“Wh-who's there?” I called out, my voice aquiver.

I heard a male whine, then a metallic click sound—it was one that I was familiar with. It was the sound of the hammer of a gun being pulled back.

I swallowed down the bile that threatened to spew up my throat at that moment.

“Keela?” a familiar female voice whispered from behind me. “You have to help Alec.”

Alec?

I spun around, but like before, there was no one there.

“Alec?” I called out.

“Keela!” his voice screamed.

I felt myself fall into a panic when I recognised it was Alec's voice I'd heard earlier. His voice was the voice filled with pain and fear that was calling out to me for help minutes before.

“Where are you?” I screamed.

“In there, you have to help him,” the female voice whispered in my ear as I turned to the door that lead into darkness. Without a single thought I began to run towards the dark room, but no matter how fast I ran, the room never got any closer to me.

I screamed and jumped back with fright when a shadowy figure appeared in front of me. I fell onto my behind and screeched in terror when the figure shot forward and got in my face.

I could only see glowing silver eyes, no face or features.

“Alec will die unless you stop her,” the figure before me whispered.

“Stop who?” I screamed.

The figure faded away to nothing and I once again had a view of the darkened room, only it wasn't dark anymore. It was lit up, and Alec was in the middle of the room on his knees reaching out for me, but his head was bowed. I blinked and when I focused my eyes the shadow figure re-appeared, but it was now standing behind Alec.

“Stop her, Keela!” the female voice screamed at me from every direction. “Fight to save him!”

I gasped when the figure lifted its arm and pointed the object in its hand at Alec's bowed head. I squinted my eyes to see what it was and when the silver barrel of a gun caught my eye I jumped to my feet. I screamed for Alec to watch out as I ran towards him. This time when I ran towards the room it got closer, but even at my fastest sprint I still wasn't quick enough.

“Alec!” I screamed when a loud noise ripped through the hallway and rang in my ears.

The gun went off and Alec's body fell limp to the floor at the same time the door of the room slammed shut. I reached the door a second later and crashed into it. I felt no physical pain as I bounced off the door and fell back onto the floor. I could feel nothing over the gripping pain in my chest, and the tears streaming down my face.

I got back to my feet and tried to open the door, but the doorknob wouldn't turn. I slapped on the door with both of my hands and kicked it with my feet, but to no avail. It was locked tight.

“Keela?” another familiar voice spoke to me from behind.

I turned around and gasped.

Nico, Ryder, Damien, and Kane were stood before me.

“You have to help—”

“Why didn't you save our brother, Keela?” Damien cut me off.

I blinked. “I tried—”

“You let Alec die. You let our brother die,” Nico cut me off as he glared at me.

I began to pant as I took a small step backwards, however I bumped into the door I'd ruthlessly tried to open only seconds before.
